I still feel that Brexit is wrong though have no idea how stop it. We get mixed messages on the negotiations, DD says that are going fine but the EU side says otherwise.

There was a protest in Manchester where Lib. Dems., European Movement. Open Britain and other groups made their feelings clear.

Our democracy and standard of living is under threat from dogmatism on both the left and the right.

Had me worried there, whitewave. I thought it meant human rights, not the right's.

May was home secretary. Quite an important post as far as Brexit is concerned.
She was the one who sent vans around telling people to go home.

Excellent article by Cohen today. Entitled “the rights propanda is an affront to democracy”

I was struck by the idea that supporting brexit is a matter of faith, not reason, and has the propaganda benefit of keeping supporters in line.

Anniebach Sun 15-Oct-17 10:49:34

May wasn't party leader during the debate , Cameron was

durhamjen Sun 15-Oct-17 10:37:08

Do you think all MPs should be made to reread 1984, and feel embarrassed?

durhamjen Sun 15-Oct-17 10:35:54

Where was May during the debates?

GracesGranMK2 Sun 15-Oct-17 10:09:25

Oh dear. Hear we go again.

Anniebach Sun 15-Oct-17 10:01:30

Given the popularity of Corbyn it is obvious if he had fought strongly during the campaign we wouldn't have voted out ,instead he dodged interviews, tv campaigns, even went on holiday , but he wanted out so understandable

GracesGranMK2 Sun 15-Oct-17 09:56:27

He has also criticised McDonnell for saying the LP would negotiate a deal. I do wonder why the journalists don't point out that what they are calling 'no deal' is a form of deal and a pretty awful one. Propaganda is winning in the BBC yet again.

War is peace; that's why we need nuclear weapons to stop other people using them. Isn't working very well at the moment.
Of course, we are using Saudi Arabia as our airstrip one.

durhamjen Sun 15-Oct-17 09:54:27

We've had the Ministry of Truth for ages, to do with us being airstrip one for the US. The government definitely believes that ignorance is strength; keeping us in ignorance is definitely their strength, so they believe.
Chris Grayling has just said that our trade is growing!!!
Black is white as well.

durhamjen Sun 15-Oct-17 09:50:04

Chris Grayling, "We have a hugely impressive track record around the world."
For the last 40 years it has been as part of the EU.

whitewave Sun 15-Oct-17 09:19:59

gg what an excellent description and to be used in all future descriptions of the brextremists

The Ministry of Truth

GracesGranMK2 Sun 15-Oct-17 08:49:43

Maisie, I didn't know that the Ministry of Truth had actually been opened. Let's not tell the actual truth but revise it to use as propaganda. Because it is so important to our future it makes me want to weep.

whitewave Sun 15-Oct-17 08:36:19

Yes maize brextremists are very good at lying aren’t they?.. like wiping the entire leave web site after the referendum, in the hope that those they lied to and accepted their lies won’t remember when as it is beginning to -all goes pear shaped.

MaizieD Sat 14-Oct-17 21:13:58

Isn't the Treasury just "experts" though???

And Brexiteers don't believe in experts.

Clearly they don't. John Redwood tweeted this the other day:

The Chancellor must get the Treasury to have more realistic, optimistic forecasts & to find the money for a successful economy post Brexit.

I'm really not sure how the Treasury can make 'more realistic forecasts'; data is data and if it says things are going to be cr*p, things are going to be cr*p.

Basically Redwood is calling for the chancellor to direct a government body to continue the Leaver campaigners' strategy of lying to the public. It's contemptible.

An increasing number of people believe voting to leave the European Union was a bad idea, according to a new poll.

Yougov poll in The Independent.

whitewave Sat 14-Oct-17 20:07:52

Don’t forget sovereigntyshock sooooooooo important.

suzied Sat 14-Oct-17 20:02:04

Never mind, we won't have anyone " speaking an eastern european langauage at the school gates, and we can get rid of human rights" ( to quote earlier posters) so it will all be worthwhile

whitewave Sat 14-Oct-17 19:44:11

Twitter reporting on Times

Treasury has said that a no deal would been a lose of tax revenue of £60bn per year.

Austerity on a massive scale.

Tegan2 Sat 14-Oct-17 18:02:01

Good crowd at Speakers Corner in Nottingham today....
