This as the Labour Party conference , a momentum fringe meeting.

Corbyn attended Momentum fringe invites but turned down Friends of Israel invite.

Very Donald Trump isn't it?

I work in a company that has mixed ages; mixed ethnicities & mixed cultures, one of whom is a proud Geordie. I have never, in 18 years with the company, ever heard anyone, whether another colleague or a client, ever make any derogatory remark about anyone's accent. I've heard colleagues "mimicking" certain phrases or sayings that are peculiar to that particular regional accent, but it's never, ever been said, or taken, in offence. Where are these places that "sneer" at regional accents? hmm

durhamjen Sun 10-Dec-17 17:47:04

My youngest son was born in the same village as Laura Pidcock. We moved away when he was four, and went further and further south, until he was 17 when we came back up north, stopping in Yorkshire on the way for a few years. So he doesn't have a Pidcock accent.
However, you are right; everybody loves a Geordie or Northumbrian accent.

gillybob Sun 10-Dec-17 17:22:18

Well at work I speak to people from all over the country in my Geordie accent durhamjen and everyone tells me I have a lovely accent and you know what ? I think they're right ! grin

gillybob Sun 10-Dec-17 17:17:50

I didn't read the news at school GG too busy with my Jackie to care about the strikes, more strikes and 3 day weeks etc.

whitewave Sun 10-Dec-17 17:15:26

Something to be proud of.

Sounds like he has joined an interesting group of people, whitewave.

We have to be thickskinned up here, don't we, gillybob - even the accent gets sneered at when televised from parliament.
I couldn't understand my inlaws at all when I moved up here. Now my sons tell me I sound like them.

I think most of us learned in school which way the different paper leaned and the intention of their different styles of writing. It only takes the odd read in a coffee shop to know that little has changed with the DM.

whitewave Sun 10-Dec-17 17:02:23

Nor me.

I saw the report on Corbyns Peace prize on “evolve politics”

gillybob Sun 10-Dec-17 16:58:49

I'm well up for criticism from anyone DJ I'm a Geordie Girl and quite thick skinned. smile
and not ashamed to admit to occasionally glancing at the Daily Mail

lemongrove Sun 10-Dec-17 16:58:14

Oh it’s not just that one link, it happens all the time, posters who sneer at the DM constantly know it’s content and talk about it.It’s very strange.

durhamjen Sun 10-Dec-17 16:56:31

Just thought you ought to know, on Human Rights Day, that Laura Pidcock's partner won the 2017 NUT Blair Peach award for his work on anti-racism.

I am sure some of you will find something to criticise about that.

durhamjen Sun 10-Dec-17 16:49:30

Careful you are criticising gillybob, who put the DM link on, not me.

durhamjen Sun 10-Dec-17 16:47:30

The reason we mention it is because the original article was in the DM. If we hadn't read it we would have been criticicised. As it is, we are now being criticised for reading it.
Which just proves that this whole thread is just to attack Labour supporters.
By the way, Annie has admitted to finding something on skwawkbox, which she has always said she never looks at.

Personally, I am sure Laura Pidcocks constituents are much more satisfied that she attacks the government in this way;

"But talking to people during my MPs surgeries, on the doorstep and in meetings, it’s noticeable most have a common thread: that people have been left behind by a government that is becoming increasingly uncaring and often shuts off support to those who’ve fallen on hard times, been trapped in poorly paid work or had bad luck in their lives. The safety net which was once provided by the State is now falling to voluntary organisations, trade union branches, religious groups and dedicated volunteers who won’t stand by and watch people in hardship. When the state fails, the people organise."
On Universal Credit Pidcock condemned the rollout just before Christmas when poor people's budgets are very tight. She asked, ‘My question for the Prime Minister is this. Is the roll-out a matter of gross incompetence or calculated cruelty?’ "

Jalima1108 Sun 10-Dec-17 16:45:14

lemon grin

Well, at least we get to read snippets from the DM on here - we don't need to buy a copy.

Anniebach Sun 10-Dec-17 16:43:22

Jen reads the DM website, that is being a glutton for punishment ?

Jalima1108 Sun 10-Dec-17 16:41:51

Perhaps you'd like to start a thread about it whitewave?

lemongrove Sun 10-Dec-17 16:40:03

It never ceases to amaze me how much is read and often quoted from the Daily Mail, when posters ( the same ones)
Hate it so very much. Why torture yourselves?

Anniebach Sun 10-Dec-17 16:37:17

And the MacBride of this peace prize was Chief of Staff for the IRA, ? took them a long time to award it to Corbyn , surely a different chap

durhamjen Sun 10-Dec-17 16:33:32

It was mentioned where it needed to be, whitewave. Wouldn't like to see what an article the DM would write about that.

lemongrove Sun 10-Dec-17 16:17:43

She would love a council house....yeah right!
Some MP’s do say some daft things.

gillybob Sun 10-Dec-17 16:07:31

Exactly Jamila she should have kept her silly mouth shut.... wanting a council house, not being able to afford a deposit etc .. silly girl. She will hopefully be surrounded by Momentum supporters in her posh village .. or maybe not ?

Primrose65 Sun 10-Dec-17 15:58:10

To be fair ww the papers have not mentioned any other recipients of that prize over the years, including other UK citizens. Did you think Corbyn deserves some sort of special press treatment?

Anniebach Sun 10-Dec-17 15:25:49

Only found mention of it on sqwarkbox

whitewave Sun 10-Dec-17 15:12:53

I see Corbyn along with Chomski was awarded an international peace prize in Geneva on Friday.

Papers made a lot of that didn’t they? grin

Jalima1108 Sun 10-Dec-17 14:22:27

ps neither of my young relatives earn as much as she does, possibly not even half that. But they are very careful.
