This as the Labour Party conference , a momentum fringe meeting.

Corbyn attended Momentum fringe invites but turned down Friends of Israel invite.

Very Donald Trump isn't it?

Primrose65 Fri 08-Dec-17 22:36:46

He sent a video message dj. Hence the picture of him on the big screen.

Primrose65 Fri 08-Dec-17 22:35:43

But it wasn't a conference about recognising a threat from Trump. Other topics, apart from Trump (who to be fair is moaned about at any political gathering across the globe) included Che Guevara – a revolutionary legacy, 50 years after his death & In defence of Lula: Brazil’s president for the many, not the few
I think a clue about the conference is quite clear from their logo.

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 22:24:58

Where's Corbyn's message, primrose?
It doesn't look as though he was there.

Primrose65 Fri 08-Dec-17 22:21:45

The politics of all nations making up a continent is not homogeneous. They are democratic countries (most of them are, I believe) and they are free to elect whoever they want. Disliking the impact of their policies and disagreeing with their political beliefs is certainly not a condemnation of an entire continent!

Here's his latest speech. No mention of South America.

In view of this week’s news re Trumo and Israel I think the OP has shot herself in the foot!

Latin America Conference 2017

Congress House, London
Saturday, 2 December 2017, 9:15am
With countries across in Latin America facing a resurgent right and the threat of intervention from Trump, this year's Latin America Conference will be the most crucial yet. Over 50 speakers are set to speak representing progressive movements and governments from across Latin America, alongside politicians, journalists, trade unionists and campaigners from the UK around the world.

Speakers include:

● Ken Loach ● David Choquehuanca Cespedes, ALBA general secretary & former Bolivian Foreign Minister ● Egle Sanchez, Venezuelan TUC ● HE Teresita Vicente, Cuba ● HE Carlos Abad, Ecuador ● Victoria Brittain, journalist ● Chris Williamson MP ● HE Rocio Maniero, Venezuela ● Julia Felmanas, Brazil ● Kevin Courtney, NEU ● Tony Burke, Unite ● Lauren Collins, academic ● Jeremy Dear, Int. Journalists Fed. ● Lindsey German, Stop the War ● Kate Hudson, CND ● Sally Hunt, TUC ● Tony Kapcia, academic ● Grace Livingstone, author ● Christine Blower, NEU (NUT section) ● Pablo Navarrete, Alborada ● David Raby, academic ● Sian Errington, Stand up to Trump ● Francisco Dominguez, academic ● Bernard Regan, CSCd ● Derek Wall, Green Party ●

Are they all ‘a disgrace’ lemongrass for recognising the threat from Trump and his right wing agenda or are you a Trumper yourself?

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 21:51:07

Are there no progressive movements in South America, or is the whole continent condemned by you?

lemongrove Fri 08-Dec-17 21:12:40

The man is a disgrace!

Primrose65 Fri 08-Dec-17 21:05:10

Apologies in advance for diverting back to Corbyn.
For anyone in any doubt over Corbyn's current support for Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua and their regimes, here he is delivering a message of support to the Latin American conference at TUC Congress House last week.

He looks more Big Brother than GQ cover!

Chris Williamson spoke about his pride to represent a leadership standing with progressive movements in Latin America (good clarification for the UK electorate on what is meant by 'progressive') and George Galloway spoke too.
Venceremos Comrades!

Forget my question- just seen the map. It’s brand new! The other was on the Plymouth road

whitewave Fri 08-Dec-17 18:28:01

jalima where is it now? The one that used to exist has been turned into flats

Jalima1108 Fri 08-Dec-17 17:20:00

I was obviously not heducated (never heard of it grin)

Jalima1108 Fri 08-Dec-17 17:19:02

Oh dear, oh dear, however bad it is claimed that services are in England, I have just been over to Wales and listened to friends there saying that it is so dire in Wales they are again being sent over to England - a few weeks wait for a cataract operation here in Bristol, 12 months wait in Wales so my friend was lucky enough to be able to have it done in Bristol.

Probably the wrong thread, must be all the talk of coffins and hospitals.

Primrose65 Fri 08-Dec-17 17:16:40

Must be my inner-city comprehensive education lemon - I had a geography teacher who used it all the time grin

Jalima1108 Fri 08-Dec-17 17:14:55

I think that the minor injuries unit has closed whitewave.

No, I'm wrong, just checked and it is open at certain times; Totnes is now what you would call a Community Hospital:
www.torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk/visiting-us/totnes-community-hospital/
Presumably Torbay is now the centre for maternity services.

lemongrove Fri 08-Dec-17 17:02:28

Have you never heard that word before durhamjen ?

whitewave Fri 08-Dec-17 16:55:30

I thought that the hospital at Totnes had closed? My son was born there.

durhamjen Fri 08-Dec-17 16:48:33

Purview, eh? How posh!

Primrose65 Fri 08-Dec-17 16:27:27

I’ve never noticed the right wingers on here sympathising about the dreadful death and rape threats DA received in huge numbers.
You would not have read posts approving of or justifying or normalising that behaviour though. That seems to be the purview of the left - it's OK as everyone else is nasty so they deserve it.

maryeliza54 Fri 08-Dec-17 15:21:21

The wording on the coffin made it clear that it wasn’t personal - it was symbolic of the deaths an inadequately funded NHS is causing. She’s chair of the Health Sel3ct Committee so perfectly fine. I’ve never noticed the right wingers on here sympathising about the dreadful death and rape threats DA received in huge numbers.

eazybee Fri 08-Dec-17 09:41:43

NHS protestors have regularly made use of a coffin to symbolise the death of the NHS.
A cardboard sign in the shape of a coffin was left briefly outside the Conservative Party headquarters while the rally sang carols and Christmas songs and delivered a card to staff at Totnes Community Hospital
So that's all right then.

lemongrove Fri 08-Dec-17 08:59:49

Parading a coffin around the streets in a protest is one thing, leaving one on a doorstep or near the office of an MP is another.

lemongrove Fri 08-Dec-17 08:57:35

There are too many demanding posts requiring the ‘offending’ poster to explain themselves on GN......always best to totally ignore those posts.

Day6 Fri 08-Dec-17 00:09:47

GracesGranMk2 - If I want to put an opinion I will, if I choose not to it is not for you to hold me to account.

Hilarious!!!!

You press those who don't share your views to offer opinions, explain, tell you why they think as they do, etc, etc, etc, all the time.

Such hypocrisy!
