This as the Labour Party conference , a momentum fringe meeting.

Corbyn attended Momentum fringe invites but turned down Friends of Israel invite.

Very Donald Trump isn't it?

annie
Corbyn is coming to our local Labour Party. My OH is going to try his best to question him on the issue of these 'contacts'
I'm not holding my breath though. I've a funny feeling that it won't be allowed, what do you think?

petra Mon 27-Nov-17 21:36:44

trisher and Fennel
I lived in an ex communist country for 5 years, Bulgaria. I lived a 2hr drive from Romania and travelled there often.
Whatever I told you about communism you would have an excuse for or not believe.
If ever there was a truer saying, it's this: come the revolution brother, the Rolls Royce is mine.
I've also visited Cuba and Russia. All exactly the same, even down to the paint colours on the buildings. That's true grin

When Lansman says jump Corbyn has to jump

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 21:20:53

A commune has the freedom to ignore the country's elected government? I think not

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 21:17:17

which country trisher?

lemongrove Mon 27-Nov-17 21:11:53

All rose tinted glasses I expect trisher and in any case IMHO not worth it for loss of personal freedoms and choices.

lemongrove Mon 27-Nov-17 21:09:49

To be honest Fennel whatever brand of Communism you are a part of ( I imagine you are in France somewhere?) it isn’t the same as whole countries being ruled with an iron fist
It hasn’t worked well for any large country overall, though it may do in pockets of communities like yours in the countryside, sort of co-operatives.

trisher Mon 27-Nov-17 21:06:54

Someone I know from an ex-communist country tells me that some of the older people she knows very much regret the loss of communism. They say everyone was cared for and there were no homeless sleeping on the street and no beggars.

Fennel Mon 27-Nov-17 21:00:27

Au contraire [wink) - I live in a commune, there are are hundreds of communes and their millions of communists around here. It seems to me they exist for the recognition of the individual within a mutually self-supporting group.
There are many versions of communism.

Primrose65 Mon 27-Nov-17 20:57:42

That's an interesting point POGS.
I don't think it's a party within a party as such. The Momentum website is "is operated by Jeremy for Labour Ltd" and if you join "You have a right of access to your personal information held on our files by written request to Jeremy for Labour Ltd, 10 Melton St, London, NW1 2EJ".
Momentum is really just the brand name of a limited company with one director - Jon Lansman.
I think they've been chanting the wrong name all this time.

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 20:40:25

The Labour Party as I have known it for over 50 years

RIP

lemongrove Mon 27-Nov-17 20:32:37

Communism Fennel ? Didn’t work so well for everyone did it.Some were more equal than others.
Some had front row seats for the Bolshoi Ballet, a dacha in the country and a mansion in town and a Bentley ( those in power)
Most of the people had a small shabby apartment in a concrete block and shared bathroom and kitchen facilities with neighbours, an old Trabant car to get about and endless queues for meat and fish and other staples, as well as no luxury goods or anything that makes life good or fun.
Most had to toe the Party line or else! Intellectuals and free thinkers ended up in gulags in Siberia.
This was in the old USSR of course, but choose anywhere else at random where Communism reigns/did reign and it is the same.
Capitalism, for all it’s faults, is still better than anything else, in a free democratic country.

POGS Mon 27-Nov-17 20:22:01

Primrose. 09.01

It is more proof of what some posters have been saying since the formation of Momentum.

' A party within a Party'!

Who is in control of the Labour Party? Could it be Jon Lansman?

As a lot of voices stated / predicted from the beginning Momentum will be in charge of the Parliamentary Labour Party eventually , has that time arrived?

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 19:24:18

No apology needed Iam .

Fennel, just think about communist countries and the struggle some countries have had to try to get out of communist rule .

For me democracy is so important, communism doesn't do democracy , they do guns

Iam64 Mon 27-Nov-17 19:11:10

grin. yes, correct Jalima. Annie, I apologise for leaping in to answer a question directed at you. Take the floor.

Jalima1108 Mon 27-Nov-17 19:09:44

Do you want a brief answer or the 10,000 word thesis Fennel?

Iam64 Mon 27-Nov-17 19:04:31

Fennel, so far as I'm aware, Communism hasn't been a huge success so far.
I'm all for a fairer society but visits to Berlin and Krakow for example, exposed me to very ordinary folks like myself who lived through communism and were so relieved when democracy returned. In Russia and China, so many people were murdered because they just didn't agree with the powers that be.

Fennel Mon 27-Nov-17 19:00:55

OK Annie - sticking my neck out here:
What's wrong with Communism?

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 18:44:35

Still no views from the Corbyn faithful

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 13:25:46

mmmm, no support for a Venezuela run U.K.

Anniebach Mon 27-Nov-17 10:14:30

It has been bothering me a Labour Party member for a long time, I have banged on about it , been ridiculed by fellow labour supporters here. Do not confuse the Labour Party with the Corbyn Communist Party ,

Corbyn made sure there were three more seats on the PLC and three Momentum members are set to win them

The end of the Labour Party

lemongrove Mon 27-Nov-17 09:52:26

It fits with the other bully boy tactics employed by Momentum. They will be wearing black shirts next!

lemongrove Mon 27-Nov-17 09:51:11

Doesn’t it bother other Labour supporters on GN?

lemongrove Mon 27-Nov-17 09:50:13

Agreed , so would I Iam64 it’s chilling IMHO.
