Let's not Forget Brexit(2)

It seems that 1000 posts is the limit for a thread, so carrying on I have to commend Day6 for persistence though really cannot understand any of the reasons LEAVER have given.

Let's we get the full disclosure of the Brexit impact statements. I want to try to avoid repitition but we have probably said at one time or other everything to say about Brexit.

The bottom line is that we will be worse off outside the EU. Yes there fault with the EU but outside we can do nothing inside we have a say.

The referendum result was based on lies. The LEAVE campaign finances are not above suspicion.

Did you see Davis’s statement? Honestly it was toe curlingly embarrassing. He really is clueless. And his reply to Starmer was dreadful, it makes a mockery of democracy.

whitewave Mon 13-Nov-17 16:50:12

No I meant that they have agreed to give Parliament a debate and vote. Quite honestly I think that they would have fallen if they hadn’t given way.

This is by a man who possibly knows what he is on about, unlike the Brexiteers.

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 16:42:49

Is that what was to be debated tomorrow, whitewave? She's good at doing that.

Major concession and back down by government. Parliament is to be given a vote on the final deal/no deal.

They were very likely to be defeated otherwise.

I have a serious question for the leavers on this thread.
Before the referendum we were told that we could have a "Norway style" arrangement with the EU. Would this be acceptable to the leavers?

Just reading about thick Fox, talking about how the Coffee producers in Africa are being exploited by the EU.

Apparently 92% of roasted coffee sold to the EU by African producers is done sold tariff free.

Is there a single person who knows what they are doing in the government?

Take your pick, Tegan

Did I read about an article in the Daily Mail that described Farage having an on going affair with a young woman which had to be kept under wraps because it would 'ruin brexit'? Is it false news or is it being ignored because it's in a paper known for making things up? Given that a brexiter ex friend of mine once described Farage as the 'only honest politician in this country' shouldn't this story [if it's true] be more widely circulated? Or maybe the people who idolise him would idolise him even more#whatabloke!

He is a slippery so and so - just seen him interviewed on BBC News (BBC2 ) - he wasn't asked why he was telling people to invest outside UK.

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 11:14:45

We have to invest via Charles Stanley, whitewave.

Interesting thread about Redwood's 'interests' here:

twitter.com/Frances_Coppola/status/929857544272662528

He seems to be two different people hmm

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 10:38:46

I wonder where his is, whitewave?
I'm sure he's got more than we have.

Mostlyharmless, he also suggests that it will not be United Kingdom for much longer either if we leave the EU.

mostlyharmless Mon 13-Nov-17 10:23:07

Yes dj I've read the link. The post Brexit future of an isolated, powerless UK isn't what the Brexiteers wanted I'm sure.
I don't think Remainers want it either.

whitewave Mon 13-Nov-17 10:21:53

I see that patriot John Redwood, is advising people to take their money out of the U.K.

hmm I wonder where I should put mine?

Brexit is being debated tomorrow in parliament.
This is Keir Starmer's letter to May. Much better than the one from Johnson and Gove, and not sent secretly at all, so no leaks.
Now, if May wants to get the better over the Brexiteers, she needs to stop being secretive. That will show them.
This government was supposed to be the most open government ever, I seem to recall.

A bit more doom from arch-Leaver Richard North:

Thus, we do not have a debate as such, in the sense that we are getting the progression of thesis to antithesis and then synthesis. We are assailed by a torrent of inchoate antagonism – where the protagonists talk past each other, without engagement. And from this mêlée, no settled conclusions ever emerge. The result is unending noise, from which the only intelligent response is retreat.

In such a context, one side can so easily offer any figure for Brexit, plus or minus, that takes their fancy. We can have as many different figures as there are bodies to produce them, and media outlets to publish them. Nothing matters other than the ability to put the favoured outcome before the public, holding it in the headlines for as long as possible until it is replaced with another, and another … and so on, ad infinitum.

Why is he unsackable? It can't just be his charismatic charm. That is surely fading now.
Ministry of Truth? well it definitely seemed a threateningly heavy hint to TM. Obey or else.....

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 10:08:55

By the way, have you read Welshwife's link, which tells us that nobody knows what a hard Brexit is, and how much harm it will do to the UK?
Ministry of Truth is full of lies. They have no idea what a hard Brexit is, so why tell May she has to go for one.

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 10:06:43

Ministry of Truth, mostlyharmless?

mostlyharmless Mon 13-Nov-17 10:03:16

I see that a secret letter from Boris and Gove to the PM urging her to be firm about Brexit has been "leaked". It's described as "Orwellian" - whatever that means in this context and urges her to go for a hard Brexit.
Whatever hold Boris has over her I don't know. What secrets does he know? Why can't she just sack him?

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 09:50:08

Worth reading about Ireland as well, whitewave. The only answer to Ireland is to remain.

durhamjen Mon 13-Nov-17 09:48:00

"Farage, Johnson and Gove promised them Greatness again. But, whatever happens, we are a massively diminished nation. We have no influence left almost anywhere, and it is apparent we have a political system so threadbare it can hardly deliver government, let alone competent participation in any issue of consequence. I think this is going to create enormous stress. It also requires leadership to address the issues."

From that article, Welshwife.
We are no longer great, whatever Brexiteers pretend.
