It seems that 1000 posts is the limit for a thread, so carrying on I have to commend Day6 for persistence though really cannot understand any of the reasons LEAVER have given.

Let's we get the full disclosure of the Brexit impact statements. I want to try to avoid repitition but we have probably said at one time or other everything to say about Brexit.

The bottom line is that we will be worse off outside the EU. Yes there fault with the EU but outside we can do nothing inside we have a say.

The referendum result was based on lies. The LEAVE campaign finances are not above suspicion.

Well, lemon, he who laughs last laughs loudest and it's not over 'til the fat lady sings.

So let's just enjoy the wait in our own different ways.

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 22:06:06

Barnier is concerned.

Indeed- preparing because they can read all the very obvious and sad, tragic signs.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:51:56

They are preparing - not planning for but planning in case of a collapse by Christmas Jura.

lemongrove Thu 09-Nov-17 21:39:34

Which wouldn't make a haporth of difference to the UK leaving the EU.Corbyn has never been a fan of us being in it.

jura2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:36:45

From the Metro today- and beginning to be published all over foreign Press:

EU leaders suspect the instability of May’s government will prompt a leadership challenge – or even a general election leading to a Labour victory.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:34:32

I wonder why so many leavers think not offering a single bit of evidence to back their opinions, while being personally rude, makes these opinions facts.

I only know what I am noticing and that is anything from small chinks to great big holes in the belief of the leavers I am in contact with. You cannot sell lies for ever and expect people to believe them.

So, does anyone know when the NHS is going to get the money on the side of the bus?

jura2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:30:14

What about Starmer? They are quietly waiting - for the whole thing to tmble, then they will jump in- once they can show how many jobs are being lost, how the fruit, veg and flowers (daffs in early Spring), the NHS grins to a halt this winter, etc, etc - then they will come riding on a horse ...

No-one, but no-one . is talking about a second referendum- what are you talking about. People are talking about our elected MPs, how representatives in GVT, as per our Sovereing Pariamentary Democracy - having the right to vote on the final deal before it happens. And some are talking about the people, us indeed, having the right to do so too, on the Deal - no second referendum at all. You are getting a bit mixed up in your blinkered anger, perhaps.

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 21:29:10

I bet Boris secretly thinks he'd voted the other way.

lemongrove Thu 09-Nov-17 21:25:31

The thing is MaizieD it’s rather the other way round, as I too find these wistful comments about second referendums and ‘people regretting they voted Leave’ and petitions etc a bit hilarious, and even a bit pathetic.
Even if Corbyn were to be in power next year, exiting the EU would still happen, and I really wouldn't bet on them going for any softer Brexit than the present government.

jura2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:21:42

Possibly your problem Day6 (btw do we know each other from my past on GN- your style sounds so familiar?)

your Brexiter friends are highly educated - the Brexit Elite. You shoud talk to farmers in Cornwall and Wales, and fishermen in Grimsby - the penny is dropping for them, for sure.

MaizieD Thu 09-Nov-17 21:15:14

Well, you've given me a good laugh, Day6. Thanks for that grin

Day6 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:11:34

Carry on Remainers.
Sorry to interrupt your gloom-fest.

Day6 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:09:35

Ha ha ha ha ha! I find this hilarious!

What complete and utter pro EU tosh! grin

Here is White waves oft-mentioned bit of wishful thinking and Project Fear propaganda.

" Uplifting to ,read that so many people who voted for Brexit have changed their minds and being encouraged to write to their MPs to tell them of their change of heart.

Just WHO is encouraging them to write to their MPs then?

Post it often enough whitewave to make it seem true?

It ain't happening. Do you have stats or concrete evidence?

Nope. Thought not.

Sorry but most Leavers are very happy that Brexit is happening and those I know (who are highly educated btw) think it's the best, most sensible political happening in their lifetime and have youngsters who are also happy to be leaving that power-hungry, undemocratic, expensive Union.

The EU is driving austerity. It needs a fluid workforce prepared to work for peanuts in order to survive. The rich grow richer on the backs of the poorest. The EU has in recent decades become a moribund, growth-sapping, unaccountable and greedy monolith, fast-losing what remains of its popular legitimacy. There is unrest on the streets of the continent,at ground level, and you refuse to recognise it. It's the ordinary person who bears the brunt of EU policy. We are opening our borders to the world and determining our own future, free of EU expense, demands and limits.

The future is bright.

mostlyharmless Thu 09-Nov-17 20:52:32

I have noticed a few reports, in the right wing press, that German economists are urging the EU to extend the negotiating period until 2020.
They don't seem to think there's a realistic chance of a deal within the existing 2019 deadline.
The longer the better. Makes it more likely that this Government will collapse. I keep hoping for it to collapse but they just keep struggling on. It seems quite difficult to force the Tories out despite their total disarray.
If Labour got in they would surely take a softer approach to Brexit negotiations.
Hopefully by then the tide of public opinion will have decisively turned against Brexit.

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 20:28:11

It might have been The Last Leg a few weeks ago.

whitewave Thu 09-Nov-17 20:23:55

No? I bet he’s quietly fed up with it.

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 20:22:48

Whitewave, did you see the programme where he was supposed to be saying okay, I know my name now?

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 20:21:27

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/200004

129,000+ signatures on this to have a referendum on Brexit before we leave.
It will be debated on 11th December, although the government is saying tough luck at the moment.

whitewave Thu 09-Nov-17 20:19:55

Just as an aside, I’m sitting in the dining room with football on in the sitting room, and I’ve noticed it practically every time DH watches football now they are chanting “oh Jeremy Corbyn”

whitewave Thu 09-Nov-17 20:17:13

Kuenssberg interviewed Gordon Brown who suggests Brexit talks will reach crises point, and in fact the U.K. may well not leave the EU - more on Newsnight tonight. Which I will record smile

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 20:09:47

Tomorrow is exactly halfway to Brexit.

jura2 Thu 09-Nov-17 18:59:55

When Grimsby fishermen, who voted massively FOR Brexit- now ask for an exemption as it would wipe them out - you really know for sure that the penny (centime) is dropping. Same with Cornwall, farmers, Wales ...

the reality is dawning. Great interview today about nest years 'Summer' of discontment, when people realise- the reality of what Brexit will REALLY mean.

I think I'm happy about this.

I'm not very up to speed with twitter, but have been able to 'follow' Simon and thank him for what he's written...
