I have just listened to Desert Island Discs with Phil Scranton. The contrast between him, his dignity, compassion, morality ,courage and love for his fellow human beings and the sorry excuse we have for a Government, lying and scheming all in their own self interest could not be sharper.

Well said Varian, even his party leader "would have advised against" his latest exploit.

Sorry dj, I can't help patronising politeness to someone who obviously appears to prefer aggression to anybody who doesn't share the same views. Bullying behaviour like some of the posts on here from the same people, time after time, make me feel I have to say something, especially as some feel the need to join in every time.

Salmond is a Marxist quisling.

Aepgirl Sat 11-Nov-17 18:44:52

I refuse to get drawn into politics on GransNet.

Why should anyone be surprised to see Alex Salmond being given his own programme on RT? The present Russian regime (which controls RT) is devoted to destabalising the West. It encourages brexit. It supports nationalists like Alex Salmond who has always wanted to destroy the United Kingdom. At one time he was very close to Donald Trump. Why should it surprise anyone that this vain has-been jumps at the chance to promote his separatism?

Yes I expect he probably will be and so will politicians of all parties. Don't most people who can afford a little do this?

Darnsarf Sat 11-Nov-17 16:24:40

Will he be putting his hand in his own pocket to help those in need at Christmas dj?

lemongrove Sat 11-Nov-17 16:17:33

grin

durhamjen Sat 11-Nov-17 16:17:21

He didn't appear to be after votes in Consett yesterday, just concerned about how people were going to be able to cope over Christmas.

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Nov-17 16:14:12

George Galloway last on and into the lifeboat?
That view amazes me, I can see him scrambling over everyone and pushing them aside to climb in and take over the helm. Perhaps it's just me.

I must say that I think that Jeremy Corbyn would offer a gentlemanly helping hand (as long as you promised to vote for him wink).

Darnsarf Sat 11-Nov-17 16:10:24

In your opinion dj, but that's all. And in my opinion JRM is the most principled.

durhamjen Sat 11-Nov-17 15:54:32

Honestly appalling views.

libra10 Sat 11-Nov-17 15:52:35

To move on - I think that Jacob Rees-Mogg is the nearest politician to be classed as honest.

He holds views, some of which are controversial, but he seems genuine and genuinely stands for what he believes to be good for the country.

durhamjen Sat 11-Nov-17 15:50:21

I agree with you, blueskies. Corbyn was in Consett yesterday talking to people about universal credit and finding out how they and the CAB are going to cope.

Of course, if they were in power, the universal credit mess wouldn't have happened.

lemongrove Sat 11-Nov-17 15:48:27

Of course there are good people in power, the OP comes at this saying that all the present government are ‘lying and scheming’....this doesn’t make it true, just an opinion.
The next government won’t all be lying schemers either, and the government before this ( and the one before) weren’t either.
MP’s and Ministers are people, and are as varied as any other profession.

lemongrove Sat 11-Nov-17 15:44:28

Let’s hope that you never have to put that boat experience to the test Blueskies

garnet25 Sat 11-Nov-17 15:37:57

maryeliza54 I totally agree with you Phil Scranton sounded absolutely amazing, so genuine and kind. I know someone who was involved in a small way with the Hillsburgh inquests and he says the same. We need more people like him.

blueskies Sat 11-Nov-17 15:24:09

JEREMY Corbyn and GEORGE Galloway are both so brave and refreshing. They speak out although sometimes it puts their life in danger. I have been Following them for over thirty years and I knowif we were on a small boat in a storm they would be last off and into the lifeboat. Neither one can be bought. That takes courage and humanity.

I don't need anything to make me feel better. Having a lovely time at this beautiful spot in the south of France

durhamjen Sat 11-Nov-17 15:01:59

Is it?

Day6 Sat 11-Nov-17 14:58:22

You really need to be stirring something seasonal DJ. Your spoon could be put to better use.

durhamjen Sat 11-Nov-17 14:53:10

Is your middle name Pat, Day6?

Day6 Sat 11-Nov-17 14:51:13

Maryeliza, stop being so aggressive.

I wasn't being rude at all. You missed the 'if' part of the sentence which caused you offence. You then go on to take offence at people quoting others or people who don't see the 'rudeness' you see. We are entitled to our opinions you know.

Do calm down.

Jaycee5 Sat 11-Nov-17 14:12:11

Good programmes that should be not good channels. (Must remember the preview button!)

Jaycee5 Sat 11-Nov-17 14:11:25

durhamjen Good question. I doubt you will get an answer.
We need a variety of viewpoints. Press TV made a horrendous mistake but it did have some good channels and they always sent a reporter to protests who took time to speak to as many people as possible. I miss Al Jazeera (it's not the same watching it online as you don't dip in and out the same way) although I get their AJ+ facebook page and I hate the attacks on RT which has a much more intelligent presenting style than the BBC which people seem to watch without question.
