I know, it hardly seems possible does it but here you go.

Not only is it another racist comment about Elizabeth Warren but to do it at an event honouring Navajo veterans would beggars belief (if it weren’t Trump that is).

Give credence to the views of DT - that is a joke isn’t it? What view exactly would that be? It’s fine to grab women by the pussy , there are fine people who are neo- Nazis?

Gaggi3 Wed 29-Nov-17 11:53:31

Try turning it on its head. I know DT meant it as an insult, but I'd be very proud to be of Native American descent.

I agree with radicalnan. I don't hold any candle for Trump but long before he came to the public notice in relation to the US presidency I was already sick of half the country calling the other half 'racist', 'fascist', 'bigot' every time something was said out of their polemic comfort zone. Usually the recipient of the accusation was some innocent and perfectly decent person who did not deserve to be abused thus.

When James Bartholomew coined the phrase 'virtue signalling' in the 'Spectator' on the 18th April I recognised the concept immediately as it is a sort of 'get your defence/abuse in first' measure.

The problem with outspoken abuse is that it drives dissent underground. British people with manners do not 'call the impolite out' on their lack of manners. They say nothing but act when they get the chance. This is, I am sure, what motivated the two consecutive election results and that of the referendum. I am sure something of the same sort was going on in America when the abused 'red neck' and 'flyover state' constituents had a chance to act against their continual abuse by the liberal elite.

So, I suggest, if we don't want Trump, or Brexit or any other extremity we should try to act like well mannered and rational peple who give credence to the views of others.

goose1964 That was an allegation made against Elizabeth Warren - that she had got a job with Harvard through affirmative action. Harvard have put out a statement making it clear that they head hunted her because she was a specialist in the field and that she was not employed under affirmative action so it is a false allegation but the Republicans still parrot it.

Another example that came up on my Facebook:

I m in full agreement here with all of the comments. It beggars belief that he was elected and is a sad indictment of American views. Elizabeth Warren said, shortly after he was elected "it's not about educating Donald Trump, it's about educating the American people.

Nevertheless, I am frustrated that despite all of the negativity surrounding this awful man, he's still there.

goose1964 Wed 29-Nov-17 10:50:35

Someone on facebook tried to diffuse this by saying that it was aimed at someone who had used being a native american to get free scholarships when she was white, not sure how right this person was

sarahellenwhitney Wed 29-Nov-17 10:36:18

Morgana I agree.
There are individuals of our country who live in mode 'pot calling the kettle black'
They are quick to condemn others but they should look no further than there own and what the British did to the colonies.

Iam64 Wed 29-Nov-17 09:52:41

What are you suggesting as an alternative to naming Trump's disgusting comments and behaviour, radicalnan?
"He is an old bloke and many old blokes share his view". Some young people share his views, otherwise he wouldn't be the President. It doesn't mean the rest of us have to shut up or be accused of virtue signalling.
Seriously, would you have suggested that calling Hitler out was virtue signalling>

Morgana Wed 29-Nov-17 09:47:59

Does he care?

radicalnan Wed 29-Nov-17 09:47:10

Is this the best we can come up with? Day after day of calling Trump names...........I sometimes wonder if GN isn't just for people headed for dementia wanting to go over the same old ground every day.

We don't know the man, we know what the media wants us to know / think about everybody, politicians are very much of a muchness. He is an old bloke and many old blokes share his view.

I do wish people would give up on the perpetual virtue signalling or being offended on behalf of everyone else.

Boring!!!!!

There is plenty of smut around about practically everyone in the public eye, that's life. Surely we are old enough to be more sophisticated thinkers?

Who would we prefer??????

Elizabeth Warren says that there is a family story (not proven so she's not claiming it is true) that one of her ancestors was a native American. That's why Trump calls her Pocahontas as an insult. Of course he doesn't realise/care that when he uses that name to insult her he's actually being racist.

Morgana Tue 28-Nov-17 21:47:51

There is a film about the code talkers. Sorry can't remember the title. We have been watching the series about Trump on tele. Very interesting. He is certainly a vile, dangerous man, who seems to appeal to the worst instincts of mankind.
But then we have similar politicians ourselves...

maryeliza54 Tue 28-Nov-17 20:21:25

suzie never mind what else his stubby manicured fingers hover over before they grab it - yuk

Iam64 Tue 28-Nov-17 20:06:02

Eloethan, I fear he was being stupid, patronising and racist. Elizabeth Warren has been called Pocahontas in a demeaning and derogatory manner before.

Cherrytree59 Tue 28-Nov-17 19:31:12

Return from blush

Cherrytree59 Tue 28-Nov-17 19:16:45

He and his family are from the far off planet
Trumpy land
They do not speak our language or understand our customs.
They show no empathy or compassion
So I wish they would Feck off return to whence they came.angry

suzied Tue 28-Nov-17 19:10:03

To think his stubby manicured fingers are hovering over the nuclear button.

maryeliza54 Tue 28-Nov-17 18:39:39

A dig at EW - he’s used it before. What was particularly heinous here was doing that at this event

I posted this a while ago, could be true:

I'm probably being really stupid here but was Trump using the name Pocahontas as a dig at the Democrat Senator Warren, or was he just being stupid and patronising? People who make a point of saying how much they like a particular race, and how special they are, in my opinion are displaying prejudice by singling out a certain group as being different - even if they claim it is a desirable/superior difference.

Whatever he intended, it makes me despair that such an oaf can be elected President.

It was certainly cringe making to see the Navajo veterans being patronised in that way.

humptydumpty Tue 28-Nov-17 11:40:00

What I find really awful is that his core supporters still seem to be supporting him! Who are these people, and what kind of views do they hold?

Fennel Tue 28-Nov-17 11:32:44

+1
Maybe someone over there will soon do just that.
He must spend a fortune on family security/insurance.

GillT57 Tue 28-Nov-17 11:21:26

He is a vile man who has brought the office of President of the United States into disrepute. When I see his stretched mouth, grinning, and his little hands waving about, I have this urge to take a baseball bat and......Make America Great Again.

Jalima1108 Tue 28-Nov-17 10:54:26

He probably thinks that Pocahontas is just a Disney character too.
Does his stupidity know no depths?
