Has the Conservative Party lost all sense of competence

This is not an attack on individuals but on the ethos of conservatism. Since the war the CP has created the myth that they are competent. Recently we have seen:

Incompetence with the economy.
Incompetence with benefits
Incompetence with state pensions
Incompetence with support for business and industry via infrastructure
Incompetence in many areas with government administration
Incompetence with transport
Incompetence in the criminal justice system
Incompetence in defence
Incompetence in education
Incompetence in the NHS
Incompetence in running their own election

I am sure there are other areas. Why does anyone vote for this incompetence? Surely we deserve better?

Do free schools have teaching assistants, anno? I am sure the article I read meant in ordinary schools, like our children and grandchildren go to.

This is interesting about TPP.
Australia don't want it either.

A “young Conservative “ is counted as a Tory under 45

annodomini Thu 04-Jan-18 19:30:01

dj are you sure? His brain-children free schools probably employ all kinds of unqualified personnel!

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-Jan-18 19:10:02

Well said Mal. We need a decent government that looks at the needs of the bottom two thirds of the heap instead of the top third.

whitewave Thu 04-Jan-18 16:06:35 You are so right. Did anyone hear the "apology" from May re the NHS. She couldn't have been less apologetic if she tried and, sadly she managed it without even trying.

GG there you go again, what was the point in you commenting on my comment to Wally ( which was meant but also meant in a lighthearted way) other than that you meant it in a derogatory manner, it does nothing for the thread but says a lot about you. Over & out !!

What on earth is that about. I made a perfectly reasonable comment. People do disagree with political view point. Offer on and someone is sure to disagree.

whitewave Thu 04-Jan-18 17:56:35

I’m not sure he would be up to it anyway.

durhamjen Thu 04-Jan-18 17:54:43

Just read some good news about Toby Young.
His views would not allow him to be a teaching assistant!

Well said, Mal.
Not forgetting how many properties Blair has to rent out.

Mal44 Thu 04-Jan-18 16:27:27

We need a labour government to address the needs of the disadvantaged. The gap between rich and poor in this country is getting wider and wider and in the end no good will come of it.
Tony Blair's government was not mindful of what was happening to the ordinary workers who had voted for him.
Zero hour contracts were introduced council houses continued to be sold off.Rents increased for private rentals.
He became just like a centre ground Tory along with his cabinet and that is exactly why people are so taken with Jeremy Corbyn. He at least offers an alternative. He has always been a man of and for the people.

mostlyharmless Thu 04-Jan-18 16:13:56

Well the Tories are a dying breed apparently according to the Today programme (didn't get the name). Conservative MPs complain that there are not enough activists to distribute leaflets or to do any canvassing any more.
There have been no figures issued for Conservative party membership for some years because of this!

whitewave Thu 04-Jan-18 16:06:35

Yes I saw that.

Never underestimate the Tories ability to disgust people.

durhamjen Thu 04-Jan-18 15:57:28

Excellent article here about Toby Young.

Wally was not being bullied. Other people just did not share his opinion.
Disagreeing is not bullying.

Wanting the railways to be re-nationalised is a valid opinion to hold, nothing to do with whether or not someone supports all the policies of Jeremy Corbyn.

I've only ever read Marx from a sociology point of view. Sociologists seek to explain the causes of human behaviour. Marx's theory is elegant and convincing but I would never take it as an instruction manual. I think it's a pity that his name has become a label for revolutionaries as he was a brilliant thinker.

durhamjen Thu 04-Jan-18 11:01:08

I must be in lots of cliques, Maizie. Better than being accused of being a Marxist.

MaizieD Thu 04-Jan-18 10:43:25

Now we'll be accused of being a clique, ladies hmm winkshock

trisher Thu 04-Jan-18 10:37:26

I've always used trains and asked for them to be re-nationalised way before Corbyn, so my views have absolutely nothing to do with him. I do like the fact that he has given the views of a lot of people who use the railways a political voice. I don't see any 'bullying' of Wally on this thread just a lot of posts from people who know what they are talking about.

durhamjen Thu 04-Jan-18 10:33:13

I thought you didn't do jibes, Annie.
Exactly, Maizie.
I have been trying to stop the NHS being privatised all the time Blair was doing it.

jura2 Thu 04-Jan-18 10:31:52

Indeed Maizie - our family (well, OH's) has been involved with British trains for a VERY longtime, particularly the GWR.

MaizieD Thu 04-Jan-18 10:18:35

What happen to Wally happens to most posters who don"t follow the Corbyn mantra

That's ridiculous, too, Ab. My interest in the railways is longstanding, from way before I'd even heard of Corbyn. I suspect that had the Labour party been led by someone else and had proposed renationalisation you might well be supporting the idea on its merits.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jan-18 09:24:16

Unfair GG, I have a shrine in my garden now, I was given a garden gnome recently, couldn't get rid of it so placed it close to a shrub ,the little chap is named Jeremy ?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 04-Jan-18 08:55:17

What happened to Wally happens to every single one of us - people disagree with our point of view. You are a perfect example of that Annie - you never stop rabbiting on about Corbyn or trying to put people in boxes that are not of their choice, but they don't leave.
