Has the Conservative Party lost all sense of competence

This is not an attack on individuals but on the ethos of conservatism. Since the war the CP has created the myth that they are competent. Recently we have seen:

Incompetence with the economy.
Incompetence with benefits
Incompetence with state pensions
Incompetence with support for business and industry via infrastructure
Incompetence in many areas with government administration
Incompetence with transport
Incompetence in the criminal justice system
Incompetence in defence
Incompetence in education
Incompetence in the NHS
Incompetence in running their own election

I am sure there are other areas. Why does anyone vote for this incompetence? Surely we deserve better?
.

How about this for Tory incompetence with rail fares.
I think they must all have shares in the rail companies.

Putting it all together shows how worrying privatisation of railways is.

Must be another socialist who doesn't believe in socialism dj. Still can't get my head around them. But.. it takes all sorts...

durhamjen Tue 02-Jan-18 11:32:27

Wasn't it Wally who said better the devil you know?
Seems to want to keep things as they are, which is weird for someone who claims to have been a lifelong socialist.
Not my idea of a lifelong socialist.

trisher Tue 02-Jan-18 11:19:11

Wally seems to be a Conservative from his/her posts, but doesn't seem to want to suggest anyone.

jura2 Tue 02-Jan-18 11:14:39

I am waiting, patiently ...

GG great post, must copy and share.

durhamjen Tue 02-Jan-18 11:01:49

About the rise in train fares today.
Our rail fares are ridiculous compared to other EU countries.
It's nothing to do with being in the EU, obviously.

durhamjen Tue 02-Jan-18 10:06:58

Nobody has suggested that Davis is too old to be the next PM, and it is touted by some that he take over from May.
He's older than Corbyn.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 02-Jan-18 09:54:51

I will quote the tax research in full today.

I confess that I enjoyed this comment in this morning’s Times Red Box email:

This year ... marks 70 years of two of our great national institutions: the National Health Service and "David Davis". One is a hugely expensive, abstract concept born out of a different political age and now prone to long delays, broken promises and poor quality service. The other is where you go when you're poorly.

Quite so.

whitewave Tue 02-Jan-18 09:34:03

So paying a rail chief 10 million and bailing out the lines as they go bust to the tune of billions is sensible economics?

The point is as it stands none of the owners of the rail franchises have any real risk as in “normal” business as they know that this Tory Government will happily give them our money to stop them going broke. Help to keep Neker afloat I suppose. Other of the profits are going to state owned transport in the EU. Clever isn’t it?

Wally Tue 02-Jan-18 09:28:17

To nationalise the railways and all of the utilities would not only bankrupt us it would be rank stupidity. Beware no socialist government has ever succeeded anywhere on earth. Corbyn has already stated that he wants trade union laws to go back to the days of Red Robbo can I ask have you really read their manifesto.

Anniebach Tue 02-Jan-18 09:27:23

Maybe some do not wish to discuss their politics, walk into a bear pit ?

Wally Tue 02-Jan-18 09:19:26

I very much want brexit and although I used to vote Labour I could never vote for this Labour party.

trisher Mon 01-Jan-18 22:29:27

Where are all the Conservatives when you need them? (Do you suppose that's what Theresa is saying as well?)

Hang on jura2 there must be one somewhere.
Could Theresa could invite her ex-rival Andrea Leadsom to join her?

mostlyharmless Mon 01-Jan-18 21:51:09

Although I'm neither a Leave voter or a Conservative supporter, how about Amber Rudd for David Davis's role? I find her manner irritating but she seems more efficient than most of them. And a Remain supporter before the Referendum.
Very marginal constituency though, so might lose her seat.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 01-Jan-18 21:50:13

Oops. Just realised not Jen - a Conservative not her. Sorry!

GracesGranMK2 Mon 01-Jan-18 21:48:49

Dominic Grieve is advocating this? Are you getting a tad confused and in the wrong thread, perhaps ?!?

No Jura. I was/am.

Don't mean to be nosy but what is it you are you waiting for from durhamjem?

durhamjen Mon 01-Jan-18 21:47:36

Maybe nobody wants to be identified as Tory or brexiter, Jura.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 01-Jan-18 21:46:03

They are outright communists who if ever given the chance would bankrupt our country.

Oh dear. Wally this may be your opinion but that does not make it the truth. What, by the way, is exactly what 'he' is advocating? I see a manifesto that was well to the right of Norway, for instance. Is Norway suddenly communist?

jura2 Mon 01-Jan-18 21:41:33

I am patiently waiting DJ.

durhamjen Mon 01-Jan-18 21:18:10

I see that so far only Dominic Grieve has been suggested as a replacement for Boris. I doubt May would ask him, and I doubt he would accept.

Any other suggestions from brexiters or Tories?

mostlyharmless Mon 01-Jan-18 21:17:45

jura2 why can't all gransnetters respond to your question about the possible cabinet reshuffle?
If we live in the UK it is our government even if we didn't choose to vote for them. Everyone in the UK is affected by who the cabinet ministers are. Remainers, Labour voters, Libdems, UKIP voters and Leave voters alike.

jura2 Mon 01-Jan-18 20:15:32

Dominic Grieve is advocating this?

Are you getting a tad confused and in the wrong thread, perhaps ?!?

Wally Mon 01-Jan-18 20:11:19

That is exactly what he is advocating. Have you really listened to what the party plan to do . They are outright communists who if ever given the chance would bankrupt our country. They've already backtracked on a lot of promises saying they were only aspirations. Just check on the membership that voted Corbyn in as leader they are all extreme left. No disrespect intended but I think you've been taken for a ride.

mostlyharmless Mon 01-Jan-18 15:48:29

For Davis

mostlyharmless Mon 01-Jan-18 15:41:11

Dominic Grieve would be an excellent replacement for but I can't see the Brexiteers being impressed!
