If May is viewed as a poor Home Secretary we can look forward to Diane Abbott in the post !
Why doesn't Starmer hold another referendum?
Good Morning Tuesday 12th May 2026
Retirement is it what you thought it would be?
This is not an attack on individuals but on the ethos of conservatism. Since the war the CP has created the myth that they are competent. Recently we have seen:
Incompetence with the economy.
Incompetence with benefits
Incompetence with state pensions
Incompetence with support for business and industry via infrastructure
Incompetence in many areas with government administration
Incompetence with transport
Incompetence in the criminal justice system
Incompetence in defence
Incompetence in education
Incompetence in the NHS
Incompetence in running their own election
I am sure there are other areas. Why does anyone vote for this incompetence? Surely we deserve better?
.
If May is viewed as a poor Home Secretary we can look forward to Diane Abbott in the post !
Very well cared for children in Australia have developed rickets because of the advice to always smother babies and children in high factor sun cream, to cover them and not allow any exposure to the sun.
Even a child on a diet low in Vitamin D would gain sufficient Vitamin D from the sun if playing out for a short period without sunscreen in the summer - instead of indoors watching tv or on computers.
If you read my post trisher - what I was saying was that TB may have increased over a couple of decades because people who came to live in this country, who may not have been immunised as children in their home countries may have developed it in later life and that there should perhaps have been a programme of awareness and an immunisation programme to prevent it.
NICE states that rickets is mainly caused through lack of sunshine more than through diet (and we all know that). Perhaps if Vitamin D was added to bread that could go some way to solving the problem, as it was to margarine years ago - in order to try to eliminate rickets. That helped as the incidence of rickets declined so perhaps that should be investigated again.
Doctors were prescribing Vitamin D for babies and small children - but this was not promoted widely enough; in particular breast fed babies born in the winter were thought to lack Vitamin D as little was coming through in breast milk.
I am not criticising him for being old (why would I ?) just saying that 73 is rather old for taking on such a demanding job which seems to age previous incumbents very rapidly - he may well, of course, be up to the task.
Jalima1108 do you really regard a reduction in TB of less than 2% to be something to celebrate? And if 74% of cases are in people not born in Britain 26% are British born, so things are deteriorating.
As for rickets yes some is caused through lack of sunshine, but poor diet accounts for much. It was after all a disease almost completely eradicated and something many medics had never seen-Well they Have Now.
I would never criticise Jeremy Corbyn for being old, or even for his left wing policies, but I cannot understand his enthusiasm for Brexit. He claims that he voted Remain, as did Theresa May but both appear closet Brexiteers who have betrayed the 48% who voted to Remain. The way he imposed a three line whip on Labour MPs to vote for Article 50 was a disgrace.
You do have a right to hold an opinion Jalima, however strange or unproven it is.
Oh good!
My opinion is that 73 is quite old for such a position - just look at some of the PMs we have had and how rapidly they have aged due, presumably, to the stress of the job.
However, perhaps experience counts over age.
I do believe that the time has come (especially in the light of the referendum ) that for the good of the country , all parties need to work together( what ever that takes in terms of compromise) to benefit all spectrums of society, I am not stupid enough to beleive that all problems can be solved, but the one or the other that is currently on offer is neither man nor beast!!
our out
You mean you do not believe any of the parties are up to the job. As a Labour government has not been tested for some time we cannot know. If that is your opinion then I can understand that you would not want them in power but other people's opinion may be based on what they have offered, how they performed in the last election and the manifesto they brought our, etc., etc.,
I would agree that we have plenty of evidence - as in the OP - that the Conservative government has shown just how incompetent they are.
I think there may have been a chance of cross-party working on Brexit if it had been offered as soon as the result came in, but why would anyone want to go into coalition with the Tories currently?
To get back to your OP,GG. IMO None of the political parties are singularly up to the job, I believe that the time has come (again) when we need a Coilltion government to sort out the sorry state we have now arrived at.
If you look the words are actually discussion forum. All I am asking is why? It shouldn't be that difficult.
Did I miss the entrance exam for this Opinions forum?
GG depending on which side of the fence a person is on, then Corbyn could have been deemed a saint or a sinner I am sure you are well versed with his career past & present.
I am really not trying to be difficult but you are still not making any sort of argument. You are not actually saying anything of substance. That whole post is again just asserting the existence of a right to have an opinion - any opinion. It is still a failure to assert any justification for that opinion.
you are not allowed your own opinions Bridgeit, remember to only post facts which have been backed up by links to other people's opinions.
You do have a right to hold an opinion Jalima, however strange or unproven it is. Just stating that you are entitled to your opinion does not make an argument. It is another logical fallacy. No one has to believe or agree with someone else's opinion. Bridgeit could just tell us why she thinks this; just telling us she does is really neither here or there in a discussion and it certainly doesn't make it a fact.
Is someone like Adonis can commend Corbyn I don’t think those who worry about a communist takeover need to be worried
Even Hestletine is brave enough to chance it.
Of course it is right wing spin and that old project fear. We should have learned that lesson by now.
GG depending on which side of the fence a person is on, then Corbyn could have been deemed a saint or a sinner I am sure you are well versed with his career past & present
Bridgeit your imo was attached to 'better the devil you know" as in better the devil you know imo, not the bit about Corbyn ( not the Labour Party ) is definitely not the man he aims to let people think he is.
Even if you intended it to read differently you are sayin that you know something about Corbyn and I would love to know what that is - seriously.
If it goes to 2022, he will only be 73, and quite a fit 73 year old.
We do know what problems May has caused since she became home secretary then PM.
Nobody could be that bad.

You think this is acceptable, do you?
Even the previous chairman is disgusted at it.
Ahh thanks Jalima. ?I must try to substantiate my 'opinions' before facing the fireing squad.
We don't know though - and may never know as he may decide he's too old to be PM by the time of the next election, imo.
Who will be his successor I wonder?
The devil you know, in my opinion, has caused all the mismanagement and incompetence, and more beside, stated in the OP, and is far worse than Corbyn could ever be, in my opinion.

imo
Here it is again in case anyone missed it first time round
Did you miss the IMO at the end of my post?
