Has the Conservative Party lost all sense of competence

This is not an attack on individuals but on the ethos of conservatism. Since the war the CP has created the myth that they are competent. Recently we have seen:

Incompetence with the economy.
Incompetence with benefits
Incompetence with state pensions
Incompetence with support for business and industry via infrastructure
Incompetence in many areas with government administration
Incompetence with transport
Incompetence in the criminal justice system
Incompetence in defence
Incompetence in education
Incompetence in the NHS
Incompetence in running their own election

I am sure there are other areas. Why does anyone vote for this incompetence? Surely we deserve better?

Some good news at last.

Hunt's in charge of her as far as the NHS is concerned.

I hear that there is a big row in the Tory party over the Greening affair.

The ex chief of staff has criticised Greening continuously and many if her supporters feel that he had a hand in her loosing her ministry.

It seems May is not in charge

Young resigned just in time as far as the Tories are concerned but it puts in high relief whether Mays poor judgement should be looked at more carefully. Johnson and Gove were also quick to support Young.

Toby Young has it is being reported an attendee at an eugenics conference with neo-Nazis and peadophiles.

Green plans means fracking on North York Moors, does it?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 11-Jan-18 11:58:32

Watching May talk about their Green plans I really do think her idea of leading and mine are almost opposites. Her ideas of leadership in this area would come under "running very hard to catch up because the 'youff' seem to like it" as far as I can see.

trisher Thu 11-Jan-18 11:11:19

Day6 You say . If they consider the Conservative government 'incompetent'
Yes I do but if you can post any evidence of their competency I am willing to listen. Otherwise I will stick to my left wing views and believe that the care of the poor, the sick and the disabled is the responsibility of any government.

Here is an article saying much the same as discussed here, but from a Scottish perspective.

We seem to be getting a little more insight into the problems May had with Justine Greening.

Former joint chief of staff Nick Timothy denies he had anything to do with the reshuffle, but gives us a strong clue to Theresa May’s irritation with her former Education Secretary: not only did Greening do little to create new Free Schools (and hated his grammars expansion), she also opposed plans to cut tuition fees. The Telegraph splashes on his revelation that May wanted a review not to just freeze fees but reduce them.

Waugh goes on to talk about how much the liberal wing of the Tories agrees with the Blairite Labour group.

This is before that nice Esther McVey starts on the universal credit rollout.

You need to listen to the LBC call-in.

durhamjen Wed 10-Jan-18 20:28:46

Obviously made before all the lies on PMQs today.
She had obviously never listened to a word anyone said.

whitewave Wed 10-Jan-18 19:49:09

I was grim wasn’t it?

durhamjen Wed 10-Jan-18 19:41:45

Whitewave, I think her speechwriter needs sacking as well.

paddyann Wed 10-Jan-18 19:39:04

oh dear Day6 so you think more than doubling the debt in 7 years is acceptable ? Or punishing the poor the sick and the disabled for the actions of bankers ? or allowing the tax evasion thats level that is not only unacceptable it immoral ,or the dozens of other vile things this government has done in the pretence of its"for the countries best interests" lets see...Armed forces ...decimated while they throw good money after bad at Trident..an out of date system even before they install it ,HS2 ..a vanity project that will only serve a tiny minority at a huge cost not just in monetary terms but in the effect on the families whose homes it will cut through, not forgetting the people who have died while being sanctioned or waiting for benefits that take weeks to be paid..or the the mess they're making of your NHS ...or the massive rise in foodbanks ..and homelessness ..but if YOU think thats a competent government i'd hate to see your idea of an incompetent one .I'm guessing its one where people are treated fairly where forces veterans aren't consigned to the streets after serving "queen and country" and the number of children in poverty isn't rising weekly.I'm also guessing you're an I'm all right jack and all those in need brought it on themselves .Typical tory ..in fact the very worst insult I can give anyone is to call them a tory.Heartless, concienceless wastes of space and air

durhamjen Wed 10-Jan-18 19:05:33

They may have done more than break ministerial code.

www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/jan/09/brexit-bill-may-have-broken-international-environment-law-says-un

whitewave Wed 10-Jan-18 18:40:21

They only signed the code yesterday.

Very short memories - although we shouldn’t really be surprised.

whitewave Wed 10-Jan-18 18:38:43

So May has breached the ministerial code. The photo taken outside 10 of some of her ministers breaks the rule that no government building may be used for party political purposes.

TLking about party political - did anyone see May this evenings broadcast.? I would sack her makeup artist.

whitewave Wed 10-Jan-18 17:07:56

I see Greening, Soubry and Grieve all sat in the remain corner.

MaizieD Wed 10-Jan-18 16:59:00

You need to read the 'Corbyn Torque' thread to appreciate why many people would prefer what we have to the Labour alternative.

Good God. Don't tell me that people have suddenly started giving nice, well reasoned and articulate reasons for their anti-Corbyn views. They might even be saying what they actually want from a government.
But having read through 2 wearying threads of moans and piss takes with no constructive ideas on the part of the Corbyn haters I'll give this one a miss. Enjoy it.

Day6 Wed 10-Jan-18 16:43:49

Numbers mean nothing. Most people do not actively get involved in politics or join parties. The young have swelled Labour's numbers.

Most people just turn up to vote when required. There are millions of voters who never nail their colours to the mast.

Day6 Wed 10-Jan-18 16:41:43

You need to read the 'Corbyn Torque' thread to appreciate why many people would prefer what we have to the Labour alternative. If they consider the Conservative government 'incompetent' (which is the view of the same handful of left wingers who have written virtually all of the posts n this government-bashing thread) just think how terrified we'd be if Labour's Momentum had power.

Granny23 Wed 10-Jan-18 16:31:20

To quote GG the Conservatives have not released any membership figures since 2013, and are reckoned to have as few as 70,000 members.

At the latest count the SNP had 115,000 members #just saying.

whitewave Wed 10-Jan-18 15:40:24

Good know that Angela has found a hospital bed.

We must ask how she achieved it.

whitewave Wed 10-Jan-18 14:58:17

PMQs. A bruising time for Maybot.

She mocked Angela Rayner for nor being in the HoC
Angela is in hospital.

Corbyn “NHS funds are being siphoned off to private health companies”
“We know that the prime minister agrees that there is a NHS crises because she wanted to sack the NHS minister — but he wouldn’t let her” grin boom boom!
