Has the Conservative Party lost all sense of competence

(1001 Posts)

This is not an attack on individuals but on the ethos of conservatism. Since the war the CP has created the myth that they are competent. Recently we have seen:

Incompetence with the economy.
Incompetence with benefits
Incompetence with state pensions
Incompetence with support for business and industry via infrastructure
Incompetence in many areas with government administration
Incompetence with transport
Incompetence in the criminal justice system
Incompetence in defence
Incompetence in education
Incompetence in the NHS
Incompetence in running their own election

I am sure there are other areas. Why does anyone vote for this incompetence? Surely we deserve better?

Let's hope they all become weary enough to resign end masse!

whitewave Tue 09-Jan-18 15:14:20

There seems to be a lot of weary resignation from the Tory party over this shambleshuffle

www.24housing.co.uk/news/councils-need-lifetime-tenancies-to-help-house-vulnerable-tenants/

This is being discussed in the House of Lords at the same time that May appoints Raab to be housing minister. He voted against lifetime tenancies.

Dunt twitter

“9 days into the new year and the prime minister tries and fails to reshuffle. Government uni regulator is appointed and then forced to resign. Government letter leaked over its horror of a no deal it itself has suggested”

I see Young’s resignation is being blamed by the rabid right on bullying and trying to silence.

What a lot of snowflakes they are.

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 10:06:28

"Shambleshuffle". I like that ww!

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 10:03:44

Kuenssberg did say yesterday that there were no more women or ethnic minorities than before in the reshuffled cabinet and were more Oxbridge educated than before.
I thought May was trying to make her Government more diverse?
Perhaps today there will be more diversity in appointments.

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 10:00:00

Didn't Laura Kuenssberg make really scathing remarks about Corbyn's shadow cabinet reshuffle two years ago? I think she said something along the lines of "if Corbyn can't manage a reshuffle how on earth could he manage a country". (Can't find the exact quote).
I do hope she is as scathing about May's so-called reshuffle. Her most condemning tweet so far seems to be "Ouch!"

whitewave Tue 09-Jan-18 08:53:15

Another day another shanbolshuffle grin

I expect they’ll try to sell it as a total victory for a strong and stable Maybot though if possible.

Hope all the Tories are keeping their fingers crossed as they will need to.

Thanks, mcem.
Some people haven't heard the news as they are still signing.
220,000+ signatures now.

mcem Tue 09-Jan-18 08:45:33

DJ I'd love to think that's the case.
For a young lad like your Dgs to feel so empowered is wonderful!
'This affects me and I can do something about it!'
Give yourself a pat on the back.

Who says petitions don't work!
My grandson signed it yesterday after asking what a troglodyte was.
"He's talking about me. Can I sign it?"
Must have been his signature that was the tipping point.

suzied Tue 09-Jan-18 07:41:27

Good. Never should have been offered the job in the first place. Mind you, the news will be overshadowed by the shambolic reshuffle.

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 07:40:38

Resigned after the petition passed 200,000 and Young said it "was a distraction".

mostlyharmless Tue 09-Jan-18 07:38:46

So Toby Young has resigned from the Office for Students.

It's no wonder the house of commons didn't want Damian Green to go.

Not just the commons, the Lords as well.

Unfortunately, Grayling is still at transport. Hard luck for the East coast mainline.

Even worse, they congratulate the wrong man for new chairman. I wonder who runs their twitter account - the same one who said about Hunt crying, do you think?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 23:08:18

You would have thought the idea of under-promise over-deliver might have got through to her after talking herself up and the election and not being able to live up to it but still she talks it up all weekend and then cannot deliver. It's madness.

durhamjen Mon 08-Jan-18 22:47:12

The Times and the Sun are the reviewers on the Newspaper review for tomorrow's papers, and they don't need any leftwing papers to attack May.

You've got to watch this video.

"Jeremy Hunt spent some 115 minutes closeted with Theresa May today. According to media sources such as Laura Kuenssberg, May intended to sack him and he ‘argued passionately’ for his job.

According to one Number 10 source, he cried.

In the end, May’s face-saving measure of allowing him to keep his job with an amended title, so she could avoid the admission that she spent almost two hours trying unsuccessfully to fire him, could be a disaster for our elderly and vulnerable.

By giving the most damaging Health Secretary in history an additional brief for social care, she has extended his reach – a reach that has only been disastrous for the NHS."

I wonder who the no.10 source was.

durhamjen Mon 08-Jan-18 22:20:21

She got rid of two millionaires, Greening and McLaughlin.
I don't know how many more she promoted.
Zahawi retweeted a post from someone saying good that Greening had left.
Hunt said he was pleased as well. I think they might not be on message . They are supposed to feel sorry that she's gone.
