More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

Lords are hopefully going to push back against the government’s Henry V111 clauses.

Democracy rules!! I hope

Blimey! What did I just say? grin

It's what commentators, economists and institutions have been saying for months and month and months. To cries of 'Project Fear', 'We knew it would be a bit hard for a while though that's not what the Leave campaigners said ', 'no-one can predict the future', etc. There was a Leaver's tweet in the thread about this report to the effect that 'it's only based on modelling', thus implying that it's worthless.

So I don't think that this is going to make any impression whatsoever on Leavers' conviction that cake and unicorns are just around the corner. They don't do rational thought and their contempt for expertise is as strong as ever...

I have one word

BUZZFEED

So we now have, as we should have had in the first place. The information about the economy has finally been leaked. The U.K. will be substantially worse off regardless of any scenario you may like to look at.

No matter how the headbangers spin it WE ARE HEADING FOR A SUBSTANTIAL ECONOMIC DOWNTURN.

Hard luck grandchildren, you will never have what we had, with economic security, a welfare service that met our needs and a jolly good pension. So suck it up because the older voter was sold a lie and was gullible enough to believe it.

That's what the French are supposed to be doing for their country and the EU, Fennel.
This doesn't look too good, either.

This sounds like bad news for the UK:

Is anyone else feeling we would have to try very hard indeed to come over as more naïve and simple minded than we are at the moment. Claire Perry is right about this at least.

The ‘sell-out traitor mob’ should be ignored. ... I would hypothesise that they are mostly elderly retired men who do not have mortgages, school-aged children or caring responsibilities so they represent the swivel-eyed few...

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 16:42:10

All this because May listened to no one and rushed ahead with triggering Article 50, without a clue.

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 16:40:47

Just think tax with no representation

Even bigger idiots

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 16:39:19

Well at least the headbangers will be able to rightly claim during transition that EU rules are being imposed on the U.K.

Idiots

durhamjen Mon 29-Jan-18 16:30:29

They need a new gameshow - I'm a minister, get me out of here!

whitewave Mon 29-Jan-18 16:16:08

Davis answering questions is showing a clear lack of understanding about the rules governing the transition period. oh dear oh dear.

So the terms prescribed by the EU, making it clear that the U.K. cannot walk away without being in breach of the December agreement. Terms make it clear that U.K. must comply with SM and CU without any power.

So this useless government has negotiated an agreement that ensures that we are powerless and locked into an agreement over which the EU has total control.

WELL DONE DAVIS YOU ABSOLUTE CLOWN.

Breaking news from Barnier.

The deal will NOT be bespoke

Mad Cash has an urgent question this afternoon about government policy over Brexit

The billionaire behind Legatum, who wants to take away our EU citizens, political and economic rights has just acquired EU citizenship via Malta for himself. He is a New Zealander.

Not surprised, Tegan. Such a shame as they are probably the sort of people to whom Brexiteers would say, "We didn't mean you."
Unfortunately that's not how it comes across to the 3million.

Last year we went to a party and met a lovely German couple who worked at a local university; had two children that had probably been born in this country. I've often thought about them over the past year. Last night I met the lady whose party it had been, and she told me that they are moving back to Germany as they no longer feel welcome here sad.

Paralysed!

A German official stated that it is impossible for the two sides to make progress until Maybot (who seems utterly parylised) decides exactly what she wants, not just what she is intent on avoiding.

Could it be because they haven't been doing their homework?

GracesGranMK2 Fri 26-Jan-18 21:09:43

more and more voters are deciding that the promises that were made during the referendum are being broken.

That might well be because they never could be kept - it was all pie in the sky.

durhamjen Fri 26-Jan-18 20:14:25

The area's MEPs don't seem to think so, except we have no idea what the UKIP one thought because he never says anything.

However,

"Given today’s news agenda, the claim that the world is in existential danger will come as no surprise. We have threats of mass-casualty cyber attacks, talk of a new leadership crisis and shoppers brawling over chocolate spread.

And yet, and yet… it’s not all bad. Donald Trump behaved himself at Davos, Boris Johnson is descended from a syphilitic mummy and North and South Korea are preparing to march into an Olympic stadium under the same banner."
