More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

Thornberry

Brexit will happen unless the polls show a large reversal. In which case we must respect the will of the people and think again.

whitewave Sun 14-Jan-18 09:48:08

Thornberry.

We must respect the referendum result - which means we must leave.

But we must also look after the economy which means we don’t have to go very far.

grin

Looking at the Repeal Bill.

A civil rights body has warned of their profound concerns

“A human rights deficit will be created by the government’s withdrawal bill, leaving many different groups in U.K. society without adequate protection.

I read that the fraudster, liar and racist is worried that leave is loosing the argument and that the remain camp is getting stronger.

This was bound to happen as the implication of Brexit starts to hit home. Remains argument will continue to win the day the nearer to bre it we get.

A Tory remainer has said “ for too long, the party has been run by rightsingers who are intent on destroying our country. Now we are taking this party back”

whitewave Sun 14-Jan-18 08:33:18

Yes I saw that about the fraudster having to pay back money he has purloined from the tax payer.

Another interesting discussion took place in the HoC committee on international trade.

Lord Hannay a former EU ambassador was part of the international trade team before the U.K. was a member of the EU.

He described how, back in the Kennedy era there were major deals being thrashed out between the USA and EU and Japan and how the U.K. although a bigger player than we are now was always marginalised.
He considers that this is almost certain to be the case post Brexit albeit with different players in the room like the EU ,USA China and India.

The U.K. will be marginalised.

There is a bit of justice in the world.

That last one only pays £8.50 p/h. I realize they are not recruiting paramedics, but even so!

Could explain it.

whitewave Sat 13-Jan-18 16:50:07

If there are so many vacancies why isn’t there a major employment push?.

Because the Tories hold the purse strings.

durhamjen Sat 13-Jan-18 16:43:14

It will be by some, whitewave. After all we have thousands of unemployed just waiting to be ambulance staff...Haven't we?

whitewave Sat 13-Jan-18 15:57:07

Apart for the Tories trying to take credit for the surcharge ban - what a major embarrassment.

The Guardian is reporting on the disastrous amount of trained ambulance staff leaving and returning to the EU.

Didn’t we warn this would happen? Or is this still classed as project fear?

durhamjen Sat 13-Jan-18 15:16:56

Why would we want to have a deal with someone who can do this to the neighbours with whom he already has a deal?

Oh, hang on.....

whitewave Sat 13-Jan-18 11:19:41

I expect the roaming telephone charges to be reversed as well. I hate paying so little for my European calls.

Standing up to these powerful vested interests is simply not cricket!

durhamjen Sat 13-Jan-18 11:05:36

Don't worry, whitewave, the brexiteers will reverse that as soon as we have control.

whitewave Sat 13-Jan-18 10:18:47

I notice that the GN Brexiters are very quiet about the EU forcing us to accept credit card surcharge ban.

How very dare they force saving money on us!!

A business woman has tweeted her different experiences in exporting her perfume.

“Tomorrow I will be exporting two boxes of my perfume to France. Not big business, but important to us.
Paperwork. Two labels and a quarterly Vat return.

For the past 6 months we have been trying to ship two boxes to India.
Paperwork. 42 forms so far and still no export.”

This business woman will also have to pay up front on export to France which at present is delayed for up to 3 months.

Cash flow difficulty will be significant.

jura2 Fri 12-Jan-18 14:37:46

oh yes, those ports will be busier than ever- with all the UK tourists driving to Paris or Brussels, Stuttgart, etc, to catch their holiday planes ... on top of all the new customs and people checks etc- oh waht fun.

So, shall we arrange a GN meet up in Skeggy, or Blackpool? I'll swim across- so perhaps Brighton would be easier.

Jalima1108 Fri 12-Jan-18 11:05:54

we could have a referendum on whether or not to have another referendum ....

Money is no object.

whitewave Fri 12-Jan-18 11:02:30

I suppose thinking about it, if we could have a referendum before March 2019, and the majority voted remain at least we could according to senior QCs and the chap who wrote the A50, simply go back to normal and try to forget this whole embarrassing episode .

whitewave Fri 12-Jan-18 10:51:57

A note from the EU.
On the 29 March 2019 flights to the EU from the U.K. will be grounded unless a deal is in place.

Please note therefore

A NO DEAL IS NOT AN OPTION

whitewave Fri 12-Jan-18 10:30:43

Neither do I maize

MaizieD Fri 12-Jan-18 10:28:37

Corbyn has said that he would vote 'remain in a hypothetical 3rd (we've already had 2) referendum. His words have been widely disseminated so I think he would have to put his money where his mouth is if it were to happen.

But I don't think there will be another one...

whitewave Fri 12-Jan-18 10:25:49

As it would me annie, but I’ll still be rooting for remain.

Anniebach Fri 12-Jan-18 10:13:40

A second referendum would horrify Corbyn
