Anything intelligent about the official opposition or indeed any other political party seems to be underrepresented on here. So I thought I would start a thread giving news of parties policies etc other than the government’s.
I will kick off with a Reuters report on Corbyns speech.
“In a speech to the manufacturers section, Corbyn will pledge to rebalance the economy if labour get into power.
Corbyn argues that instead of finance serving industry, politicians have served finance, and we have seen where this ends, the productive e onomy, our public services and people’s lives being held hostage by too big to fail banks and casino financial institutions.

varian don’t you support Cable?
I was rooting for Jeremy Corbyn when he stood as leader of the Labour Party and folk that knew better than me said "no chance".
I also rooted for Theresa May as leader of the Tory Party but only on the basis that she was not Andrea Leadsom.
They are both dreadful. I am beginning to doubt my own judgement of politicians.
Thanks gg it really is worth a watch.
Anyone see Asa Bennet on bbc news saying that Labour had a demented obsession with getting into number 10.
Um -what would be the point otherwise.
Scrapping the barrel springs to mind.
Wow!! I’ve just watch Corbyns Labour video “ change is coming”
It was sold as a rant by the old fashioned right wing rags, but nothing could be further from the truth. It was measured clear and concise. And I agreed with every single word.

50 years ago Martin Luther King accepted an Honorary degree from Newcastle University. In his acceptance speech he spoke of 3 great and urgent problems in the world-poverty, racism, and war. This government haven't dealt with any of them.
British Rail verse very apt.

Yes I was reading that he is another one standing to make a killing post Brexit
Bradley’s apology sent out late at night, I assume hoping few people would see it. Corbyn has generously donated the money to a food bank

Dearlove is now an oil executive with a company with many off-shore accounts. Does that mean he is lining himself up as the next archbishop of Canterbury?
I like this, whitewave.
"The latest silly attempt by right-wing media barons to discredit Jeremy Corbyn as a Cold War spy, comes from the ever more ridiculous Telegraph’s Gordon Rayner.
Rayner has persuaded former MI6 boss Sir Richard Dearlove (no, I assure you that’s NOT a made-up name taken from a 1970s James Bond film) as the latest establishment figure to try to persuade the country that electing Corbyn as PM would be tantamount to electing Blofeld to Number 10."
One solution suggested by Tom Pride is that it isn’t for example The Telegraph writing blantant lies it is journalists and they should be called out for breaching the code of ethics that journalists are supposed to adhere to.
Corbyn is due to make a speech tomorrow on Labour’s position on Brexit. It is widely assumed that he will commit labour to some form of CU. However, there are a large number of senior labour MPs who are putting real pressure on Corbyn to commit labour to the single market, arguing that without the ability to continue to trade seamlessly the uks economy will be hit to the extent that labour’s plans to reverse the cruel austerity cuts will be unable to be realised because of drop in government revenue.
A towering giant’s reply to those who say poverty is unavoidable.
“Overcoming poverty is not an act of charity, it is an act of justice”
Nelson Mandela
Britain is an incredibly rich country with millions living in poverty. It is a deeply unjust country.
“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings”
Nelson Mandela
What do you say to Mandela words eh. Tory MPs , owners and editors of the Sun Express Mail and Telegraph?
Tom London
The Express as well as the Mail has a long history of hate

primrose You say "If you know the company accounts are wrong, report the company!"
I, and most other people, wouldn't know that a company's accounts are wrong - how could we? That is up to their accountants or a "whistleblower" in the firm. The watchdog itself is saying that some very large accounting firms are not carrying out thorough audits. Some people might wonder whether, if they are too meticulous, their clients might decide to go elsewhere.
You say: "So what if accountancy firms are rubbish, corrupt, unethical ........" Really?
You go on to justify that statement by saying:
"The quality of Richard Murphy's work seems to be in line with most other accountants".
I don't see how you could possibly know the quality of his work. Accountants working for huge companies have a vested interest in keeping those companies happy. Richard Murphy does not.
"Richard Murphy is so discredited that even John Mc Donnell said he doubted his judgement. (Hansard, July 20th 2016) He lost a libel case because of his inability to understand tax."
What primrose thinks about Richard Murphy.

What the tax world thinks about him.
Who would you believe?
www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2017/03/27/oxfam-shows-that-country-by-country-reporting-really-does-expose-tax-dodging/
Oxfam reported lots of companies for tax dodging last year, including banks like Deutsche Bank.
What was their reward?
Companies get reported all the time.
What's the point when the new head of the FCA makes rather large accounting errors, and still gets given the job?
www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2018/02/21/when-a-letter-of-resignation-is-the-only-available-indication-of-the-required-sound-judgement-that-would-be-necessary-for-appointment/
Hypocrisy?
That's a different argument than having a pop at companies who operate within the current law because you disagree with the law.
He wasn't 'having a pop' at companies. He was suggesting a change to the law.
I have no problem with a party saying we're going to change tax law - it happens all the time.
And why do you think parties change tax laws? Or any laws, come to that?
Change doesn't just come out of thin air, it's the result of lobbying by interested parties and consideration of expert opinion.. And what will get them votes...
