Anything intelligent about the official opposition or indeed any other political party seems to be underrepresented on here. So I thought I would start a thread giving news of parties policies etc other than the government’s.

I will kick off with a Reuters report on Corbyns speech.

“In a speech to the manufacturers section, Corbyn will pledge to rebalance the economy if labour get into power.
Corbyn argues that instead of finance serving industry, politicians have served finance, and we have seen where this ends, the productive e onomy, our public services and people’s lives being held hostage by too big to fail banks and casino financial institutions.

I do think he needs to keep holding the government to account on domestic issues Jen. They tend to get swept away by all the Brexit nonsense.

Something else that needs to be looked at with urgency.

And now GPs are being paid to stop people going to hospital.
That's going to reduce satisfaction even more.

"To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what recent estimate he has made of the proportion of people under the age of 25 who are in full time work and are not in receipt of the National Living Wage."
Written question from a Labour MP.
Response from Tory undersecretary in the department of business.

"The National Living Wage is applicable to those aged 25 and over."

I feel sorry for his constituents if he can't even answer a simple question like that. What chance have they got?

Happy Birthday to Lib Dem’s

30 years old today??

2nd attempt?

MPs in line for a pay rise; self-employed in line for a cut of £3000.
Perhaps MPs should have their pay cut by £3000 to incentivise them?

By the way, MPs will only have to pay 2% NI on £30,000 of their pay.

The opposition talking about housing.

Has anyone living in London spotted these?

This is absolutely disgusting.
How dare May give our aid money to Saudi Arabia?

www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/mar/09/national-disgrace-fury-over-100m-aid-deal-between-uk-and-saudi-arabia

They have enough money to buy 48 Typhoon jets. They don't need aid if they can do that.
What is May playing at?

GracesGranMK2 Sat 10-Mar-18 06:51:25

It sounds like a back-hander for the deal Jen. Sadly, I am beginning to think nothing they do will surprise me.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 10-Mar-18 07:23:11

I saw your link to the local elections Jen. There has been very little about them at all in the MSM. I wonder why?

Primrose65 Sat 10-Mar-18 11:31:02

Are local council elections usually covered by the MSM?
Perhaps that's why?

Primrose65 Sat 10-Mar-18 11:35:56

What's the Guardian playing at? They've been running huge print ads and online ads for the Saudi's recently, haven't they? Why are they accepting Saudi money and promoting the regime? Nothing about the local elections on their main politics page either.
I do agree the MSM is pretty hypocritical though.

durhamjen Sat 10-Mar-18 11:46:11

If Labour had lost more seats in the local elections they would definitely have been covered on GN.

This is why many EU nationals are going home.

durhamjen Sat 10-Mar-18 12:01:28

Good to know you are more concerned about the Guardian than what Saudi is doing in Yemen, and how we are complicit in it.
Why do you think Saudi needs 48 more Typhoon jets from the UK?

www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/08/why-saudi-arabia-in-yemen-what-does-it-mean-for-britain

GracesGranMK2 Sat 10-Mar-18 12:52:37

Are local council elections usually covered by the MSM?

They usually get a mention on the News. I haven't even seen that. Perhaps this sort of thing waits for the Sundays now.

Primrose65 Sat 10-Mar-18 13:59:24

Jen, how can you criticise a regime on one hand and take money from it in another?
The Guardian has defended its decision to run adverts supporting Saudi Arabian crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. To me, it seems they're happy to give him publicity to make him look good providing he pays them for it. The poor algos they use for their adverts just highlights their hypocrisy.

Seems to me that both the Guardian and the UK govt have the same problem.
