What do Leavers think of this?

I just wish that any of our politicians sounded as if they understood what they are doing. At the moment they are all torn between what they want, what they think their constituents want, what their party wants, and what they think will look good in tomorrow;s papers.

Farage, Hannan and several others shouted on rooftops that we could be like Norway and Switzerland - whilst they KNEW FULL WELL THAT THIS IS WHAT IT MEANS.

Paying hugely for access to single market and customs union- abiding by all the import/export EU rules WHILST having NO say at all in decision making.

They were lying - again.

I'm not sure if it was on Gransnet, but I read one person's view that avid Brexiters aren't interested in practicalities.
They have a an idealistic view of Britain as a tough seagoing island nation, separate from the rest of Europe, and the rest of the world.
Even if it means hard times, Britain will cope.

MaizieD Tue 20-Mar-18 20:21:30

I'm sorry. I really did want it to be non-confrontational because I am curious as to what Leavers think of this 'agreement'.

I think that if I had voted Leave I would be disappointed at how this is panning out.

merlotgran Tue 20-Mar-18 20:14:41

Well, I for one am thinking, 'Won't you come into my parlour said the spider to the fly?'

Not on your nelly. grin

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 19:46:39

Sorry MaizeD, I have just reread & realised you wanted to hear from Leavers, I voted to remain, so I won’t comment but like you I would like to know what Leavers are thinking

whitewave Tue 20-Mar-18 19:41:21

There isn’t a leaver willing to comment because it is beyond embarrassing to admit you still support things like my daughters company who have been quietly moving to Europe, with all the resultant unemployment and loss of highly skilled scientists.

MawBroon Tue 20-Mar-18 19:36:30

If nobody wants to comment, then as you say, over and out. Or do I mean down and out?

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 19:34:39

A thread doesn’t work if no one wants to comment !!Hence come on ladies. Over & out no more to be said .

MawBroon Tue 20-Mar-18 19:31:32

A lot of unusualy reticent GNs out there, come on leaver ladies , let’s have your thoughts

Patronising too.

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 19:30:15

In fact if that’s how you took my comment, it just goes to show how dangerous these sites are, open to all sorts of interpretation from people we know nothing about or how we word our ,opinions & that was what I was saying in a normal way not how you have interpreted it. No point commenting at al is there really.

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 19:25:53

Sorry MawBroon,it doesn’t mean that in my world!

MawBroon Tue 20-Mar-18 19:21:30

confused ?

Yes really (both what I think of the confrontational nature of the posts I referred to and my own point of view.)
It smacks too much of the “Come on if you’re hard enough”:type of argument.

Bridgeit Tue 20-Mar-18 18:57:45

Really MawBroon?

MawBroon Tue 20-Mar-18 18:54:20

Again Paddyann who are “they”and how do you know what “they” will say?

paddyann Tue 20-Mar-18 18:53:08

they'll just tell you they had no more idea of how things would pan out than you did ..(classic comment on one of my other sites).Even if its the case we're still better out than in and will have queues waiting to make trade agreements with us all the remoaners are just sore losers and pessimists ..after all we managed BEFORE the EU and we will again and we'll have oour sovereignty back. Its their stock answer while the rest of us cant believe the mess they led us into .

MawBroon Tue 20-Mar-18 18:51:42

I voted Remain, but find the tone of this thread hectoring and inciting to a barney, especially, I’m afraid, that by Bridgeit.

Tom London tweeted about leave voters

“The leadin Brexiter who lied and tricked people, now know that Brexit will be a disaster for these same people.

None have the moral courage to be honest.

They are preparing for the next BIG LIE, - the lie of the “stab in the back”

What they will never do is take responsibility”

The fishermen aren't happy but I don't know if any of them are on GN to comment. What a shame about the quotas (without which they might have done the same as the Canadians and ruined the cod fishery, not to mention haddock), but perhaps they shouldn't have listened to the Leave campaign's lies about how easy it would be to get out of the Common Fisheries Policy.

Hear hear, Iam64!

Iam64 Tue 20-Mar-18 18:05:59

I voted Remain and still believe the Leave vote was a disaster. Sorry MaizieD, I know you're looking for Leave voters to comment but I couldn't help myself

Tegan2 Tue 20-Mar-18 17:45:28

Yes, but it's the EU's fault because they've been so unreasonable about us leaving. They should, of course, have given us preferential treatment [as they have done the whole time we were in the EU]....what was the other quote I read' they were in with lots of opt outs and now they want to be out with lots of opt ins' [from the PM of Luxembourg....].

MaizieD Tue 20-Mar-18 13:27:30

I think they think I'm looking for a bun fight. I'm not.

It would be odd to think that it's just remainers moaning as that is the reality of the current agreement.

paddyann Tue 20-Mar-18 13:25:20

no takers MaIzieD ? Of course they wont believe thats the case anyway..its just remainers moaning and being pessimistic ...everything will be sunshine and roses all the way .

MaizieD Tue 20-Mar-18 12:38:53

From twitter, (and it expresses what I've been thinking for a while now)

@pieist

The massive irony of Brexit may be that the the UK's ultimate relationship with the EU ends up actually being what leavers claimed it was: subject to all its rules but with no power in it, and they'll call it victory because they're "out".
