This is certainly an eye opener.

Has anyone been following the story? Channel 4 News did an excellent exposé.

Thread diversion:

TV licence is for watching any live TV channel, not just the BBC. That includes watching it via your computer.. You don't need a licence if you don't watch live TV.

I don't understand how people think that not paying their TV licence is somehow a protest against the BBC. It's a licence fro the receiving equipment. Like the wireless licence used to be..

OK, Stand Easy. Back to thread now.

Thanks, petra wink. A lady is never rude except on purpose, said somebody famous.

I thought it was a very reasonable responce, worthy of a chuckle grin

Just a question that someone might be able to answer

Are we completely anonymised on Facebook gransnet?

I never post on Facebook, but have no say in the matter in relation to GN, which I guess I should have been aware of on joining, but in truth didn’t appreciate it at the time.

On Bannons advice CA used self destruct emails in order to cover its tracts.

This post is up thread. I said, tongue in cheek, that I liked the idea of self-destructing emails. HQ deems that outwith forum guidelines. I've asked them to explain why.

The other deletion was entirely expected and reasonable even though it was in response to equal rudeness.

Access to written BBC News online does not require a licence, only watching programmes does.

NotTooOld Thu 22-Mar-18 17:28:05

Whitewave - thanks for that. Very interesting indeed.

durhamjen Thu 22-Mar-18 16:41:43

No doubt there, then, whitewave.
I wonder why they had to remove it.
Not ashamed or embarrassed, are they?
They seem to siggest that there are people who are even better at doing what CA do, one with a 90% success rate, who will be going through his files as we write.

Bit more evidence - gradually building up

Nice, whitewave

I wonder why they're all so desperate to deny they used CA?

This page has been removed from Leave UKs webpage

My laptop doesn't like "Tories" either.

Not just Toris, but Brexit.

Some people aren’t happy if they don’t have something to be constantly outraged by.

We discussed psychological profiling and targeted adverts around the time of the last General Election. I think we could do with looking at it again now that the extent of the practice is becoming clear.

This is not outrage. This is very deep concern about the undermining of our democracy; the essence of which must surely be that the same information is available to everyone.

This twitter thread reminds us of concerns which were expressed when we last discussed the topic.

This. for me, is the key statement. I would hope that other people agree with me.

What is democracy, and how does it work? Well, in the ideal world every single voter has access to the exact same information from each "side", and makes a choice accordingly. The more we move away from this the more fragile democracy gets.

Listened to Zuckerman this morning. He will welcome more government control which will certainly be something to consider.

I wonder how many Facebook users gave permission tonCambridge Analytica to use their data as they did?

whitewave Thu 22-Mar-18 07:26:49

You think that this situation hasn’t happened before? Of course or has.
