A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism/Elasticity but with a less scientific bias. grin

A thread about Corbyn. For lovers and haters.

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 22:09:56

What I don't understand is how anyone can defend Corbyn, he even had the phone number of the Momentum activist who launched a verbal attack on Ruth Smeeth, she left the room in tears , he ignored her distress and greeted her abuser,

Yesterday he walked out when his own party's MP's were speaking of the abuse they suffered, how can there be any defence of this ?

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 22:04:43

dbdb77 the survey was carried out by YOUGOV a respectable mainstream polling company. You can check the results on their website if you wish to verify its validity.

Day6 Wed 18-Apr-18 21:57:32

why didn't Jeremy Corbyn stand up and say he was appalled & ashamed that anyone who supported him would have such vile opinions - he should have said "Not in my name" - but he doesn't - it's just the usual "any form of racism is wrong...." He's a disgrace - by refusing to condemn such dreadful views he is condoning them

Applause dbDB77 - that's it in a nutshell. No one is denying there are some people sitting in Parliament who hold views we cannot agree with - that's a cross party thing and it applies to all walks of life. You can try to stain Labours rivals all you like mostlyharmless. You are clutching at straws in your defence of Corbyn and those within the party who should be flushed out.

However, we now have a whole party stained by anti-semitism and a cowardly leader in Corbyn who has been far too close to groups and public incidents which are without doubt anti-semitic.

His walk-out on one of his own (Jewish) party MPs was not only astonishing but disgraceful and hateful.

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 21:55:46

mostlyharmless, you can keep avoiding the truth , it is not the Conservative party which is being accused of anti semitism it is the labour party. Your argument is just an attempt to avoid the discussion and the accusations .

Do you think Corbyn was right to walk out of the house ?

Fennel Wed 18-Apr-18 21:49:21

"The party leader before Corbyn was the first Jewish leader of the Labour Party"
This reminded me of Benjamin Disraeli, Annie. But he was the leader of the conservatives in his day.
Most of the Jews I know these days support the conservatives. With a few notable exceptions.
I think the link between Jews and socialism dates back to Russian pre-revolution days.

dbDB77 Wed 18-Apr-18 21:47:15

Mostlyharmless - you failed to mention that the "study" you quote is from a Corbyn supporting left wing news website - evolvepolitics - that has joined Impress the press regulator funded by Max Moseley!
Hardly objective.

dbDB77 Wed 18-Apr-18 21:39:07

No doubt there is some anti-semitism in all political parties - it's how the leaders deal with it that matters.
The Jewish MPs yesterday were quoting foul abuse they'd received from people from JC4PM so why didn't Jeremy Corbyn stand up and say he was appalled & ashamed that anyone who supported him would have such vile opinions - he should have said "Not in my name" - but he doesn't - it's just the usual "any form of racism is wrong...." He's a disgrace - by refusing to condemn such dreadful views he is condoning them.

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 21:36:03

But still not as bad as the Tory anti-semitism according to this study Annie.
Tory anti-semitic views have increased while Labour’s have gone down.
8% of Labour voters agree “Jews talk about the Holocaust too much” compared with 13% of Tory voters (1917).

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 20:35:16

It was so awful before Corbyn ? The party leader before Corbyn was the first Jewish leader of the Labour Party

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 20:35:13

You haven’t read the link properly Jalima.
Furthermore, the stark difference in results between parties from the first statement holds firm throughout the comparison.

In 2015, 16% of Labour voters agreed with the statement that ‘Jews hold too much power in the media’, compared to 11% in 2017.

This compares with 17% of Conservative voters agreeing with the statement in 2015, with a 2% reduction to 15% in 2017.

In 2015, 11% of Labour voters agreed with the statement that ‘Jews talk about the Holocaust too much in order to get sympathy’, declining to 8% in 2017.

This decline from Labour voters is in stark contrast to Tory voters who actually saw a rise in their supporters agreeing in this statement – with 12% agreeing with it in 2015 compared to 13% in 2017.

Jalima1108 Wed 18-Apr-18 20:34:48

Ah, I see, I thought it was anti-semitism you were referring to, which was also part of that nasty campaign.

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 20:29:45

Jalima I was referring to Zac Goldsmith’s blatantly racist mayoral campaign against Sadiq Khan.

Jalima1108 Wed 18-Apr-18 20:20:30

YouGov polls show anti-Semitism in Labour has actually REDUCED DRAMATICALLY since Jeremy Corbyn became leader.^”
^]Which makes you wonder just how bad it was before then?
shock

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 20:16:39

I don't care what that poll claims, Corbyn walking out of the commons yesterday was an insult to his MP's, the Party and supporters of the party, expect he received a hero's welcome from his likeminded supporters , how low can this man take the party

Jalima1108 Wed 18-Apr-18 20:01:26

Zak Goldsmith's mayoral campaign for example
I'm confused, mostlyharmless, sorry.

Do you mean the online anti-semitism against Zac Goldsmith because he is Jewish by members of the Tory party - his own party?
I wasn't aware that his own party was guilty of that. How odd.

lemongrove Wed 18-Apr-18 19:59:57

That’s the trouble with polls, they often get it wrong ( or people lie.)

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 19:56:36

“^YouGov polls show anti-Semitism in Labour has actually REDUCED DRAMATICALLY since Jeremy Corbyn became leader.^”

“^The answers given for YouGov’s first statement show that not only are anti-Semitic views amongst Conservative voters significantly higher than Labour voters in general, the rate of decline for anti-Semitic views amongst Labour voters is more than double the rate of Conservative voters – falling 8% in two years for Labour voters compared to a 3% decline in anti-Semitic views among Tory voters.^”

There is no excuse for not condemning racism and anti-semitism in any political party.

Iam64 Wed 18-Apr-18 18:47:25

What message does the Leader of the Opposition, facing accusations of allowing anti semitism in his party, send when he leaves the chamber during a debate on anti semitism?

I'm genuinely puzzled at the apparent inability of those who accuse all Jewish people of being Nazi Zionists can't at least acknowledge the two Jewish women who happen to also be Labour MP's who spoke yesterday, have indeed been subjected to vile anti semitic abuse.

nigglynellie Wed 18-Apr-18 17:03:57

Ukip, BNP? I have no first hand knowledge of these partys. I do know that anti semitism is not sanctioned by the front bench of the Tory party, as it clearly is, at present, by the Labour party.

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 16:54:39

mostlyharmless, you claimed all in the Tory party are racist

lemongrove Wed 18-Apr-18 16:53:09

The two main parties will all contain some mostly but there has been very little in the past compared to today within the LP membership.

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 16:48:48

Really lemongr9ve. No racists or anti-smites in the Tory party, UKIP or the BNP?
Incredible!

Anniebach Wed 18-Apr-18 16:47:53

All this bile the party are wrestling with started with Corbyn and his - my way or no way and sod kinder politics

lemongrove Wed 18-Apr-18 16:42:57

But have never been such a feature of a political party and it’s members before, it’s all since Corbyn became Leader.

mostlyharmless Wed 18-Apr-18 16:24:15

Numerous examples of Tory racism and anti-semitism have been detailed on these threads.
Zak Goldsmith's mayoral campaign for example. Anti-semitism against Milliband etc etc.
Racism and anti-semitism are sadly a fact across society.
