A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism/Elasticity but with a less scientific bias. grin

A thread about Corbyn. For lovers and haters.

sunseeker grin

lemongrove Wed 09-May-18 16:57:23

You’re a real charmer Grandad however did we mere women manage without your knowledge and advice?
The answer: very well! grin

sunseeker Wed 09-May-18 16:54:37

Just a thought but I wonder whether Grandad likes to use voice recognition because he can't get enough of the sound of his own voice! grin

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 16:52:46

nigglynellie or perhaps some people do not realise when they are being teased, for want of a better word.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 16:46:50

Give it a rest Grandad
It's just getting very boring now.

nigglynellie Wed 09-May-18 16:16:59

Grandad I think everyone on here is aware of how up to the minute you are on every aspect of modern life but I think you need to be aware that some people on her actually resent being ridiculed particularly over the political party they may support, which is actually none of your business! You also have no right to sneer at the fact that some of us do not embrace modern technology, and are in fact quite happy with our old fashioned domestic arrangements and always have been; our unintelligent ill informed conversations may give you much amusement, but WE try to be tolerant of differences of opinion, and not lecture and criticise others particularly on a personal level however much we may disagree.

Well, obviously it is beyond "the capacity" some on this forum to have any intelligent views on voice recognition and the advantages to modern Britain that such technology brings forward. Very many offices use that technology today to prevent repetitive strain injury (RSI) brought about by continual long hours use of a keyboard. Now, thankfully that chronic condition has rapidly become an injury of the past and is another leap forward for industrial safety in the workplace

In the above, I suppose the anti reaction of those not willing to engage in or see the health benefits in such technology should be expected, as there are in these times those people whose only wish is to become dinosaurs in a technology world unwilling to learn anything new.

It then always follows that such people are Dinosaurs in much of their other views, especially political with many following a party of now only seventy thousand members with an average age of seventy one.

In reality, that party could not now match the numbers at the Manchester United Old Trafford stadium on an average match day. (LOL)

So, now back to work using voice recognition to finish a report and that will be passed on to one of our Legal Secretary's who as always will without doubt edit it with voice recognition.

So I will leave you to your mouse and keyboards, dictaphone and Fax machines. However, thanks to all who posted in response to my post for giving me a good laugh over a coffee. I have circulated some your posts to other members of the office staff (especially the Lemongrove one on women doing all the work in the home) as I know they also will enjoy a good laugh.

Now, back to work.

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 13:05:13

interesting!

Perhaps I should use voice recognition

Jalima1108 Wed 09-May-18 13:04:14

That's intgeresting varian
I was surprised to see that John Smith's result is lower than that of James Callaghan.

Anniebach Wed 09-May-18 11:52:26

Thought Corbyn was seeing them Thursday

mostlyharmless Wed 09-May-18 11:49:40

Well McDonnell got there for the meeting. On Andrew Marr on Sunday McDonnell said he and Corbyn would be visiting Barnet councillors on Tuesday evening.

^Defeated Barnet Labour councillors inc @adamlangleben met @johnmcdonnellMP tonight. Shad Chancellor pledged to call out fake news and conspiratorial websites that played down or denied anti-semitism was a problem in Labour.
McDonnell agreed he + JC wd visit Barnet to say more^

So it looks as if Corbyn didn’t go to meet the councillors and another date is being arranged.

Oldwoman70 Wed 09-May-18 10:17:31

Still not been able to find out if Corbyn has visited Barnet as McConnell apparently said he would - I assume he hasn't.

Anniebach Wed 09-May-18 10:03:01

Even lower than Michael

Political scientist Dr Mark Pack has produced a graph which shows all the leaders of the Labour Party who have been in post when the party has been in opposition at the time of at least one round of annual council elections.

For each he has calculated the average share of the vote for the Labour Party in those rounds of local elections whilst in opposition in Parliament. The vote share calculations use the Thrasher & Rallings national vote share calculations, i.e. they are adjusted to allow for different wards being up for election each year. Therefore the different performance of different leaders isn’t due to which wards were up in the years they were in post – the figures are adjusted to cater for this.

This shows that in spite of the huge increase in LP membership, and the appalling performance of the Tory government, Jeremy Corbyn's results lag behind every other LP leader of the last fifty years.

Mawbroon grin

Perhaps we are all too flighty to have even one sensible thought between us.
Such fun!

MawBroon Tue 08-May-18 22:20:18

“You may think that, I could not possibly comment.”

lemongrove Tue 08-May-18 22:18:32

Mawbroon wink
I think you already know the answer to that.

MawBroon Tue 08-May-18 21:08:40

Grandad are you always so patronising or just when you think you are dealing with inferior beings? (Your post of 19.28 today)

Anniebach Tue 08-May-18 20:24:06

grandad1943, I suggest you concentrate on slowing down your dictation, I have never had flighty years , perhaps you just got over excited though, or could it have been a Freudian slip, we hear about older men and their secretaries . LOL

Jalima1108 Tue 08-May-18 20:02:32

I feel you should try it some time
It must be difficult for a lecturer (I am presuming you are as you run courses Grandad) to stop lecturing everyone.

I sometimes find that with DH and I have to tell him to stop.

Jalima1108 Tue 08-May-18 20:00:49

Did he cancel his visit?

He visited Plymouth, which has always flip-flopped between Conservatives and Labour and consequently never gets anything of any consequence done.

Grandad1943 Tue 08-May-18 19:58:51

anniebach, I use voice recognition to write my "epistles" and they normally take less than two minutes. I feel you should try it some time as it may allow you to explain your reasoning in regard to your long-standing membership of a party you constantly criticise so much on this forum

Oldwoman70 Tue 08-May-18 19:56:45

On Sunday mostlyharmless replied to "sunseeker" that Corbyn was going to visit Barnet today - does anyone know if he did as I haven't been able to find any reference to it on any of the news channels or online newspapers.

Jalima1108 Tue 08-May-18 19:22:19

Jalima, I'm not quite sure why you are comparing Jess Phillips to Corbyn, to see who is "posh" or not? A poster called her a "straight politician" and I expressed my view that I think she misrepresents herself
I realise that bmacca and I was just comparing her to the leader who does the same thing but must not be criticised in any way.
