Jacob Rees-Mogg Moves For Conservative Party Leadership.

With an open attack on Theresa Mays handling of the Brexit negotiations many in the media believe that Jacob Rees-Mogg has made his first open move in a bid to become Conservative party leader and Britain's next Prime Minister.

Rees-Mogg in yet another of his ongoing interviews with the media lambasted "weak" Theresa May for preparing the UK for "Brexit failure". Rees-Mogg stated that with The British negotiators going into each set of negotiations with an attitude of "we will kowtow before you, Mr Barnier in every way you possible throughout these talks" there is no hope of success for the UK. The foregoing are undoubtedly harsh words indeed even from an arch hard line Brexitier, but many believe that there is far more to Rees-Moggs words than just Brexit.

It may well be that this hard line right wing politician has witnessed the way that Jeremy Corbyn has moved the Labour party to the left and now feels he could carry out the same in the Conservative party with the exception of that move being in the opposite direction in regards to political ground.

Evidence to the above can be seen in Rees-Moggs attack on Scottish Conservative Leader Ruth Davison, for in the same interview he stated that Davison should not be allowed to marry her longtime same sex partner as planned. However, same sex marriage legislation was put before parliament and passed in 2013 under the David Cameron coalition government.

In making the above comment Rees-Mogg is undoubtedly looking to damage Ruth Davison, who also is seen as a possible next leader of the Conservative party. That stated, it is also being seen as a move against centre ground Concervatives in parliament.

In the above can be seen shades of Momentum's original moves against centre Blairite MPs in the Labour party.

Hell bells.

grandad, you speak Momentum speak.

Rees Mogg wants out, has always wanted out so nothing new there .

Corbyn has always wanted out, he let down party members who wanted tovremain by refusing to take part in the leaders tv debates leading up to the referendum .

So Rees Mogg has spoken out about Brexit and what he wants, this is not a bid for leadership, your O/P was rubbish, it was just Momentum speak.

I will not condemn Rees Mogg for being honest, I will condemn Corbyn for being so dishonest,

Why should I condemn another party when the one I belong to is a shambles.

So just back off, I have ants to deal with and they do bother me . With respect your posts bore me.

Day6 I posted links through Google to Daily Telegraph and Guardian reports on the JRM interviews in this thread. Perhaps they put forward fake news in their pubilcations you then believe. (LOL)

nigglynellie Thu 24-May-18 20:18:51

Who can argue with that?!!

Day6 Thu 24-May-18 20:12:10

Grandad - Undoubtedly, JRM and his wing of the Conservative party feel their time has come

You know that fake news thing we should all be aware of........?

I see the press is full of this story - NOT.

Grandad says it's undoubted though. Hmmm.

hmm

Grandad1943 Thu 24-May-18 20:04:27

Lemongrove, the volume of talk on social media in regard to any subject and does demonstrate the thought train of the of large numbers of people in those matters.

It does not mean that any circumstance will come about, but it does very much help in "pushing" matters that way.

lemongrove Thu 24-May-18 19:57:19

There’s a lot talked about on social media which doesn’t mean that it is either correct or will happen though.

Grandad1943 Thu 24-May-18 19:47:33

nigglynellie, if you look through my posts in this thread you will see that I have not made a "personal attack" on anniebach. I have stated that as a "claimed" to be a member of the Labour party she has never stated a word of support for the party she is a member of, or made any criticism of the Conservative party on this forum, at least in the time since I have been a member.

A strange kind of member many would think I believe.

Lemongrove, much of the media, especially social media now believe that a General Election is becoming more and more likely in the autumn of this year. There are a number of factors that bring those conclusions about. The first being that there are several cross party alliances that have formed in parliament on various issues that could well "scupper" any agreement made with the EU.

Splits within the cabinet may well mean that Britain is never able to draw up a concerted agenda to be put forward as an agreement to the EU negotiators. Along with the foregoing, there are several other issues that mean a General Election has to be called, with the Irish border issue being the largest.

One thing is certain that the Conservative party will not wish to have Theresa May as their leader in any forthcoming election and that is the reason Jacob Rees-Mogg has been openly critical of Theresa May and Ruth Davidson in his recent press interviews.

Undoubtedly, JRM and his wing of the Conservative party feel their time has come.

Anniebach Thu 24-May-18 19:29:49

As someone who has worked for the Labour Party for over fifty years , ‘not a Johnnie come lately’ I have canvassed for every general election, if you haven’t the brains to know you need to win over non party members and never, ever insult members of other parties then take up tiddlywinks, takes less brain power .

lemongrove Thu 24-May-18 19:23:10

Exactly Annie wink

lemongrove Thu 24-May-18 19:22:00

Perhaps Grandad is a young man, given that he dislikes anyone 70 or over and considers them out of touch.....oh wait, is it only the people he thinks are Conservative voters?
All older Corbyn supporters are naturally in touch, down wiv da kids and will never reach 70+.Or if they do,they will still be youthful in some way.

Anniebach Thu 24-May-18 19:21:41

lemon, using LOL following an attempt to belittle someone is just simply - slyness , it’s what bullies do , think back to school days, they would hit or trip someone up then giggle.

Day6 Thu 24-May-18 19:18:07

the Conservative Party is down to a total membership of seventy thousand with an average age of seventy two according to its own Bow Group

Repeating the above, over and over again (has there been a thread where he hasn't used it?) obviously gives left wing, Corbyn-adoring Grandad a thrill. Shame that the number of members in a political party doesn't have any bearing on General Elections. Corbyn's Labour lost the last one, btw.

Shall we play buzz-word bingo with it? grin

lemongrove Thu 24-May-18 19:15:33

Well said Niggly smile

Am not a fan of LOL either ( don’t know anyone who still uses it) especially when used after an insult.

lemongrove Thu 24-May-18 19:13:32

We all have the right to put our views on here, and any other thread on GN, the person who starts the thread does not control it.
I doubt there will be a GE in the Autumn.I think there won’t be another until ( at least) we have formally left the EU.

nigglynellie Thu 24-May-18 19:09:06

Not on this thread though!! You're entitled to your views Granddad, but personal attacks on annie, are not appreciated on here, that's the long and the short of it!

MaizieD Thu 24-May-18 19:03:41

That's as may be, but at least we don't sneer and jeer at, lets face it the most appalling opposition in modern political times, perhaps we're just too polite!

Good god, nellie shock Did I imagine a whole succession of anti-Corbyn threads which petered out not so very long ago?

Grandad1943 Thu 24-May-18 18:55:21

nigglynellie, perhaps you are "fed up" with hearing how low the Tory party membership is, how aged it is and out of touch it is, because it is the truth. (LOL)

some of us do not have to hide behind "claimed" Labour party membership to state the above fact. (LOL)

nigglynellie Thu 24-May-18 18:44:44

Oh give it a rest Grandad, has it never occurred to you that those of us who are not far left wing labour members are just getting a little bit fed up with you lecturing us about how dreadful the Tories are, how low the membership is, and how we on here are just old fossils left over from Empire. That's as may be, but at least we don't sneer and jeer at, lets face it the most appalling opposition in modern political times, perhaps we're just too polite! Incidentally, my 15 year old granddaughter constantly puts LOL, it's irritating enough from her, but excruciating in a senior citizen!

Anniebach Thu 24-May-18 18:33:36

Being lectured by a babe grin

Grandad1943 Thu 24-May-18 18:28:46

Anyone only has to look at many of the posts in this thread to realize why the Conservative Party is down to a total membership of seventy thousand with an average age of seventy two according to its own Bow Group.

Aged, out of touch and not wishing to engage in a changed Britain. That's the State of the Tory party and its supporters today, again as can be witnessed on this thread.

Anniebach Thu 24-May-18 18:26:36

I missed a conservative leadership challenge and JRM was elected ?

another Tory leader with dignity

Jalima1108 Thu 24-May-18 18:11:54

his victory leadership.
Have I missed the news? shock

Jalima1108 Thu 24-May-18 18:08:23

It’s fair to point that out as she is a LP member and you’d think she woukd have plenty to say about this current shambles

Maryeliza I hadn't noticed Anniebach holding back in her criticism of the current shambles under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership confused - and, as far as I know, she has been unwavering in her support of the Welsh Labour party which, with Carwyn Jones as leader, distanced itself from Corbyn.

Jalima1108 Thu 24-May-18 18:04:24

especially when you kept popping off to water your plants smile and yes, it did rain, but perhaps not enough to give them a good soaking.

Jalima1108 Thu 24-May-18 18:03:46

However, along with others anniebach has entered this thread without in any of her posts engaging in a serious manner in regard to the topic raised.

I couldn't find anything serious in the assertion in the OP that Jacob Rees-Mogg Moves For Conservative Party Leadership. nor can I find much evidence to back up the claim.

So, forgive me Grandad, if I thought the whole thread was a spoof and not to be taken seriously.
