As I stated earlier in the thread winterwhite, Theresa May "bought" her continued premiership from the Northern Ireland Democratic Unionist Party at the cost of over a billion pounds to UK mainland taxpayers. Even with that she has not been able to provide a stable negotiating position for the UK in the most important talks this nation has ever engaged in throughout its modern history.

The above is the reason the right wing hawks in the Conservative party are now circling, especially with a General Election becoming ever more likely in the Autumn.

I for one have no sympathy with the position of Theresa May but great sympathy for all others in great Britain being in the hands of this most bungling of all governments.

The original topic of the appeal of JRM to the Tory parliamentarians versus grass roots is sufficient in its own right and I’m interested in what people think about that without dragging in Jeremy Corbyn, but now too dilute to disentangle.

Day6, as stated this thread is not about Corbyn or the Labour party. A few weeks back I spoke of JRM and the Conservative party in the Corbyn thread. I was then immediately informed by anniebach and others that I was engaged in "diversion" of the topic and thread.

I respect Mrs May, I have no respect for Corbyn.

I am a member of Welsh Labour. Doubt it will be so come OUR leader’s end of office. If a friend of mine decides to stand for the leadership I will remain, if she doesn’t I may support a different party. Against me leaving is not getting the emails asking for my opinion, I so enjoy replying to those .

Not only has she Brexit to negotiate (and imagine how multi-layered and complicated that is, with so many people like legal experts and economists to consult) but she's had the Russian nerve agent poisonings AND the Syrian bombings to keep on top of. All those are MASSIVE undertakings involving diplomacy and meetings with world leaders., and all in such a small time frame! One would be enough...all three major incidents (as well as keeping impulsive Trump contained vis a vis the UK) would test anyone's leadership skills.

She's done it without any frills, self aggrandisement or ego. She's a strong woman.

I agree with everything you say Day6. So easy to criticise, so easy to know better, so easy to offer advice, not so easy when you actually have to do it!! I've made no secret of my admiration for Mrs May in her handling of this particularly poisoned chalice, heaven only knows who else could even remotely take on this task in either party, including, perhaps particularly JRM!!

Well said nigglynellie. Annie is not alone in her distrust and dislike of the present Labour party. Far from it. Labour is losing women voters too regarding the Trans women/self ID issues.

Polls show something like 19% of people think Corbyn would handle Brexit well against 39% who think T May is the better politician to handle it.

Isn't it just - especially this tenure! May has had to hit the ground running. I am surprised she is not a nervous wreck. She gets flak from all sides, even her own ministers.

No PM would win this one. The Brexit negotiations are stacked against her...and would be for whoever was PM. Can you imagine Corbyn in charge of the Brexit negotiations? Could he deliver a mandate from the people? That would be truly frightening. He blows with the wind over so many issues. I can't imagine he would honour anything if it wasn't to HIS personal taste. Look at how he has prevaricated and blustered regarding cleansing the party of its anti-Semetic issues.

Mrs May is also a Type One diabetic I believe so she is injecting insulin throughout the day and balancing it against her food intake. That in itself seems to be a personal workload/danger few of us would want. I admire her strength.

Oh I think any PM has a poisoned chalice during their time in Office, certainly Blair and then Brown did, and then so did Cameron ( so poisonous for him he had to leave immediately.)

Grandad, you seem to know more about annies political affiliation than she does. I think she would know if she supports the party or not. As I understand it and I could be wrong, it's the present leadership that she has an issue with, not the party as a whole, so for you to be so dismissive of her is to say the least uncalled for.
