I feel that the initial invitation was a misjudgement. But then I suppose when it was issued we couldn’t possibly imagine just how bad Trump would be. We’ve gone to huge expense to host his visit and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there was no good trade deal to be had. And on a slightly different note, I disagreed with the Trump baby blimp being allowed; we should not stoop to his low level. I despair of what is happening in the public eye, where is diplomacy, humility, empathy? What does tho tell our grandchildren?

The idiot Trump!
(237 Posts)Well, according to him, we have voted to "break up the EU"
Erm, no, the vote was just for leaving. Just goes to show how much of a grasp he has.
I despair, that such an ill informed person is in such a position
I feel sorry for the Queen, having to be polite to such a predatory, sexually assaulting, obnoxious oik.
If we have to "suck up" to any American President for a trade deal it means we would undoubtedly be better off remaining within the EU.
Should we be judgemental about others when we don't personally know them?
I don't feel sorry for the Queen, she is a great lady and I am sure, can handle any situation or person.
Okay, President Trump may have said/ some crazy things, but he does something which very few people are brave enough to do these days.....he says what he thinks. A lot of what he says, I agree with and I am not afraid of what other people may think.
We are fed so much false news these days, and sadly, people believe it!
As for Melania....if the Chelsea penshioners and young children she played bowls with, like her, who are we to say she is just an 'ornament.' She is attractive and may well have a very nice disposition ........please do not keep on judging just by what you see or hear others saying.
One day, we all will be judged, that is a certainty.
Obama threatened to put us at the back of the queue so if he were still president we'd be sucking up to him.
I think that in this country we have not been critical enough of those who have got us all into this Brexit shambles. In that we now have to "suck up" to this tyrant and beg, hoping he will give us a trade deal.
We are such a terrible critical country here in the UK, we have got worse over the years. Very sad. We never have anything nice to say. Perhaps we should look at ourselves a bit more.
Oh Nigglynellie! Are you seriously comparing a young model with a billionaires bank balance with a full time working woman, twice her age, who is in the middle of one of the most critical times of her political career. Let’s face it, if she’d been wearing something special from aswanky designer that would have been wrong. I thought the outfit fine for what it was.
Merlotgran TM is not in the army neither was it a mess dinner so why would that apply.
Bugs that’s very true. My next door neighbour is American and she’s so embarrassed by him that she keeps apologising to us.
But what has she got stuck on her right arm? Her battery?
starbox Exactly .....double standards inmho ..... the word tyrant has been used about him
Isnt it outrageous ? ..... white black or whatever ... a tyrant is a tyrant in any bodies language ....
He insults people for effect and then retracts what he has said - every time. That way he gets more personal attention.
I thought May's split in her skirt was way too high. Didn't she realise that when climbing up steps, the split goes higher. I was looking for her knickers or maybe she was
wearing a thong!
Just wish his advisers would make him do his homework. His grasp of protocol is non-existent. His knowledge of the country where he is a guest leaves a lot to be desired too. According to this morning’s tweet, he left the UK to visit Scotland! Maybe he knows something we don’t?
...but don't you think that TM is a weird shape, anyway. None of her clothes seem to fit right. She should get a proper stylist.
I can’t believe how many people are up in arms about what Melania and TM were wearing; there isn’t this amount of outcry when it is a man’s costume. I hate everything Trump stands for but I can’t help feeling that politicians who said what they meant and stood up for the UK instead of apologising for its existence would be a breath of fresh air.

Not SO important to you that you preferred your committee meeting.
Phoenix.
For pity's sake.Through out her 62 year long reign Her Majesty has been on the receiving end of what must have been hundreds of dignitaries from far and wide. If she hadn't survived the likes of Trump before then I am sure she would have given up and abdicated long before now.
Give her credit. This wonderful Lady, the likes of which we will never see again in our and possibly our childrens' lifetime knows what she is doing.
Juggernaut Sorry my mistake,apologies.
I think the best-looking First Lady ever was Michelle Obama! And I was on the protests at Chequers and in London yesterday. I would have been at Blenheim too but had to be at a committee meeting in London on Thursday pm. In fact I was in London four days out of five last week - why did I move to Oxfordshire?
Ah, Pebbles, but he's a Black leader who's taken former Rhodesia from white 'oppression' (?) to a (seriously corrupt) independence and I foresee allegations of racism if one started a rally (or let up a derogatory blimp) against him. I doubt the PC lot would want to do something that they might be taken to task over.
Wikipedia ... some info on Mugabe whom we have welcomed in the past over here
.. no protests
Having dominated Zimbabwe's politics for nearly four decades, Mugabe has been a controversial and divisive figure. He has been praised as a revolutionary hero of the African liberation struggle who helped to free Zimbabwe from British colonialism, imperialism and white minority rule. Conversely, he has been accused of being a dictator responsible for economic mismanagement, widespread corruption, anti-white racism, human rights abuses and crimes against humanity.
Juggernaut I hear you .?... from I can gather their values and ways are different to us ... the gun laws ... ugh ... they just cannot get their heads around why it’s creating the problem ... Piers Morgan had to leave the country after he told them off ... frustrating to say the least they just “don’t get it “ ....... their culture although we speak the same language of sorts is just not the same ... there are no “special needs “ road crossings as far as I know in many states according to my sons friend who is Blind ....
that’s normal it seems to them and nobody questions it ... over here people work special needs still battle
to get help with wheelchair access etc a lot more could be done ...just simple things when we hang up on phone we generally say ... bye .... but my American friend found that weird .. she said they just hang up .. conversation finishes ... done .... we have so many different values .... can’t imagine if BoJo got in as UK PM ... and meeting trump for talks .... what a disaster .... actually I am going off on a tangent here lol ...... we speak the same language but we don’t .... when the biggest Allie we have in the world comes to visit ... we have to accept it .... and I i said we have “ welcomed “ a lot worst and never protested ....
If you think you are embarrassed you can only imagine how embarrassed I and many other Americans are. Everyday he does or says something that makes me cringe. I was praying that the Queen might’ve given him a lesson or two on decorum, etc. as for Melanie..... what was even worse that what she might’ve had on for her visit in your country was the jacket she wore when visiting one of the centers where they are holding the immigrant children that said on the back of it “I don’t care”. My DH and I cannot figure out how anyone can support him in any way, shape or form. If it weren’t for the fact that we have 2 young granddaughters we would be moving out of this country.
eazybee and starbox. Well said you two, I could not believe people are so judgment on here.
thats normal Irene16 its a widely held notion that England IS the UK ....even in Westminster which should know better !
