Has anyone become aware of shortages in relation to the massive holdups at the channel tunnel?
We are continuously being told how time critical it is for the turn around of lorries.
And yes I am aware of the direction the lorries are going in, I've done it enough times.
Back to fun times ladies, I'm enjoying the p... take of these imagined shortages.
The only thing I'm stocking up on is the Argan oil products from Poundland as it looks as if they're closing.

Also Black cow?

Amazing that we got through the war with blockades and boats being blown up and still managed to survive, but withdrawing from the EU is apparently going to reek Amageddon like conditions. Maybe we could get some tips from World War II veterans who were part of the war effort on how best we can survive the potential catastrophe that will kick in next year so we don't end up eating our pets and then each other shock On an upside if fast food outlets were to close due to lack of supplies perhaps the general population would become healthier like those who lived through the 1940s smile

Posted too soon! Nothing Remoaners like more than stirring up unnecessary panic- it will be hilarious watching them go into US style survivalist mode!

Lemon, Vodka as exported by Comrade Putin? Shouldn't that be embargoed?

Can you get home-distilled British vodka? I believe you can make it from potatoes, so that wee still could be pressed into service..

lemongrove Sun 29-Jul-18 09:42:54

Will it make my gin too salty though ( the pickled lemons)
Am getting a bit worried about this, what with my hypertension! shock
Should I switch to drinking vodka?

Blinko Sun 29-Jul-18 07:55:33

Elegran, ooh, now there's a thought...

varian Sat 28-Jul-18 20:33:57

Actually we did meet someone just after the vote who toold us that he didn't know anything about the EU but he'd always believed that he ought to vote, but he didn't know which way to vote. Then, he said, he watched the Eurovision Song Contest and he could see that these bloody foreigners would't vote for us, so he decided, "that's it, I'm out"

His reason for voting leave was one of the more sensible ones we've heard.

Don't tell us that these folk all knew exactly what they were voting for - they did not.

Elegran Sat 28-Jul-18 20:33:29

Blinko Yes, if he is not too busy making public information videos (example "How to go barechested in a heatwave without getting sunburnt nipples" with demonstration). Shall I send you an application form for employment under him?

Cherrytree There wil be renewed prosperity for the former salt-making towns where the salt pans will be renovated - Nantwich and Prestonpans will be thriving centres..

MaizieD Sat 28-Jul-18 20:22:36

Thanks from me, too, varian

I hmm this:

On the plus side, we’ll still be in Eurovision.

But isn't that why lots of people voted Leave; because the nasty EU countries ganged up on us and wouldn't vote for us in Eurovision? grin

Blinko Sat 28-Jul-18 19:53:57

Thanks for that link, varian.

Would it have been helpful to have been aware before the Brexit vote? Don't tell 'em, Pike.

Blinko Sat 28-Jul-18 19:48:24

You know these mines that will have to be resurrected in Cornwall? Will they be managed by that whatsisname in Poldark, by any chance?

Cherrytree59 Sat 28-Jul-18 19:42:38

Had a few afternoon GandTs .
Friends were a little surprised when they saw me collecting up the lemon pips.

The question is..
Do I plant the pips now or let them dry out?

Elegran Salt???
Will one have to use the sea salt evaporation method.

Chewbacca yep, that's the ones ?

Elegran Sat 28-Jul-18 11:13:17

It would take about 50 copper jugs, Jalima, so yours would not go far towards it. You'll have to join the queue, I'm afraid.

Jalima1108 Sat 28-Jul-18 11:02:55

I have some old copper jugs in the attic, were promised to DD but she no longer wants them.
Would they be of any use?
It's a bit hot to go rooting around up there at the moment though

Elegran Sat 28-Jul-18 10:37:37

Production times may be rather long, Jalima as the copper will have to be extracted from disused mines in Cornwall and Devon if it can't be imported. It will take a while and a lot of capital to get them back into use.

Cherrytree You could rub the copper with a cut lemon dipped in salt - another use for all those pickled lemons we are stockpiling.

Jalima1108 Sat 28-Jul-18 10:29:27

I'm very impressed Elegran - are you taking orders?

Cherrytree59 Sat 28-Jul-18 10:27:39

Oops sorry Lemon didn't mean you blush although I do hear you spend quite a bit of time in Argy Bar.....

Elegran The Wee still is beautiful and functional, but will we 'still' be able to buy BRASSO post Brexit.hmm

Elegran Sat 28-Jul-18 10:09:09

Essential equipment for the post-Brexit shed. Self-sufficiency in alcohol production and waste disposal should be our goal.

Sorry to return to flippancy, but I was busy designing this wee still for Cherrytree when varian posted the more serious stuff.

lemongrove Sat 28-Jul-18 10:05:24

The important thing is.....can I safely put pickled lemons in my gin??????

varian Sat 28-Jul-18 09:54:36

Warning - do not read this if you are of a nervous disposition. If you want to believe in unicorns and sunny uplands, just put your fingers in your ears and your head in the sand.

Elegran Sat 28-Jul-18 09:42:11

FArNorth I hadn't reached that page. Must read faster or I won't be all prepared.

I am designing some useful dual-purpose equipment. Will post a pic when the prototype is ready to be unveiled.
