varian, I heard that there was a whole persuasive campaign lined up, on the theme of what fun it was, post-war.
But Boris, after the tricky business of deciding which side he was on, went with the NHS idea.

FarNorth Sat 28-Jul-18 09:21:19

Oh dear, Elegran, cultural differences strike again.
It's on page 397 of the "Surviving Brexit" handbook.

Elegran Sat 28-Jul-18 09:17:28

Cherrytree Why are you still weeing in the shed? Is it all those pickled lemons?

janeainsworth Sat 28-Jul-18 08:39:24

chewbacca Pickled lemons are really good in savoury Mediterranean dishes.

MawBroon Sat 28-Jul-18 08:31:22

I understand the government are to stockpile ceefax pending a total information meltdown grin

Chewbacca Fri 27-Jul-18 21:53:57

Certainly are Cherrytree. Here you go.....

lemongrove Fri 27-Jul-18 21:29:30

I don’t want to be pickled shock Cherry grin

Cherrytree59 Fri 27-Jul-18 21:02:40

Vitamin tablets
Are Halibaorange tablets still available?

Alexa Fri 27-Jul-18 20:53:48

One of the problems with stockpiled food is scarcity of vitamin C. Tinned whole tomatoes , and other acidic fruits retain some vitamin C despite the canning process.

Perhaps we should be printing off
DIG for victory Brexit posters.
And of course Pickle you lemons leaflets in every letter box.
A wee Still in the shed .....
smile

Your post reminded me of those huge jars of pickled eggs we used to see in pubs muffin

and no, I've never tasted one!

Bit like wrapping apples in paper (you all have wrapped apples off your garden trees in paper, haven't you?)
Yes, Baggs, I have - some lasted, some didn't. The rest are in the freezer but, of course, there will be no electricity apparently, when the supplies get interrupted.

I feel many in the Road haulage/Distribution industry view the situation at present as it being vital that frictionless border trade can be maintained following Brexit for not only the future of their business prosperity but also the key to Britains future success.

It was only last week that the leading suppliers and distribution companies were requested by the government to map their supply chains with particular reference being made to "just in time" delivery services". The results of that mapping will demonstrate the level of Britains resilience to disruption on various scales should frictionless border trade cease following Brexit.

For the UK's suppliers and Hauliers, the foregoing mapping is a huge task to undertake and the first comprehensive results may not be available for two to three months at least. However, dependent on how the figures are calculated between 44-60% of Britains trade is currently with the EU, and in that it is felt little or no delay to heavy vehicles progressing through all European ports will continue to be essential to the future of the UK in regard to its supply security and prosperity.

However, until large-scale data from the above mapping operation is available, all debate I feel on how Britain may fare in various Brexit scenarios is somewhat guesswork whether that be in regard to Britain trading under WTO rules or any other agreement.

There is no doubt that the Leave campaign had some good slogans.

"Bring back control" was brilliant and fooled a lot of folk

I'm not sure that "Bring back post-war rationing" would have been so successful.

Chewbacca Fri 27-Jul-18 19:47:39

How do you pickle a lemon please muffin and, once pickled, what can they be used for?

MawBroon Fri 27-Jul-18 19:38:44

It may be your first post Varian but there are five more pages
<yawn>

muffinthemoo Fri 27-Jul-18 19:35:54

I adore preserved lemons and can get through jars of them. So, so good.

Will pickle any unwanted lemons on the go!!

Baggs Fri 27-Jul-18 19:35:28

So I won't be stockpiling lemons or any other citrus fruit.

I did read some years ago though that a way to store (stockpiled) citrus fruits is to pack them in tea chests with layers of sand so that each one is separated from its neighbours. Bit like wrapping apples in paper (you all have wrapped apples off your garden trees in paper, haven't you?). Ours, cookers similar to but sweeter than Bramleys) used to last to March when we had a good crop off our single tree. And that was for a family of seven.

varian Fri 27-Jul-18 19:33:17

Maw I am no more flogging a dead horse than brexit is a done deal.

This is the first time I have ever mentioned stockpiling and I do so only to highlight the huge gulf between the fancy pie in the sky brexit promises and the looming grim reality.

Baggs Fri 27-Jul-18 19:28:10

On lemons, since jalima was asking: I have (well, my gut has) become intolerant of citric acid in the last few years. Interestingly I decided a while back that I prefer G&T without lemon or lime. I wonder now if my taste-buds were trying to tell me something.

MawBroon Fri 27-Jul-18 19:19:48

Oh Varian dead horses and flogging.
Do you really think this conversation is going to go anywhere?
Everything that needed saying has been said, not to mention a whole lot that didn’t really hmm

varian Fri 27-Jul-18 19:15:01

I don't remember the Leave campaign warning us that we would have to stockpile food in advance of brexit because leaving the EU would cause such havoc that supermarket shelves would be empty. Do any of you remember that warning? Vote Leave for rationing?????

Jalima1108 Mon 23-Jul-18 15:22:48

Ferment
Fermented foods are very popular at the moment (full of probiotics apparently?)

I like pugs too, Joelsnan, but I couldn't eat a whole one.

collecting tomatoes - you have some already then lemongrove? Ours are still green.
Any lemons down your way by any chance?
To put in my gin (gin keeps doesn't it? I shall have to stock up the store cupboard).

I think he was saying to go back to the people for a second vote would decimate Tory party but to go ahead will decimate the nation. Not able to give proper info as civil servant bound by OSA

MaizieD Mon 23-Jul-18 14:59:01

.One decimates Tory party the other decimates the nation. hmm

PECS Mon 23-Jul-18 14:54:47

Sorry if this is already here..too busy pickling beetroot to read 19 pages
I have an acquaintance in the Home Office... in the Brexit team.... says all options have plans and predictions but all embargoed. No one can make a decision. One decimates Tory party the other decimates the nation.
