We'll eat it, merlotgran.

lemongrove Mon 23-Jul-18 13:56:21

Well....you may be right, I shall settle for a bit of light pruning or collecting the tomatoes.smile

merlotgran Mon 23-Jul-18 13:50:38

In this heat, lemon shock shock

lemongrove Mon 23-Jul-18 13:44:53

Off now, to dig for victory! grin

lemongrove Mon 23-Jul-18 13:43:38

jura since you have now used part of my original post as some sort of ammunition, if anyone cares to go back ( probably on the first page) and read my post which started
‘It’s a joke’ it was a light hearted comment and wasn’t against any other posters, it was to show you that you had taken my comment seriously when I said I I had marmalade etc that was British and I would keep a stiff upper lip.
Yes, this thread was ridiculous from the start, so that part is certainly true.

Anniebach Mon 23-Jul-18 13:32:49

Like the millennium cupboard ?

MissAdventure Mon 23-Jul-18 13:22:45

It can be donated to food banks to help out the people who are struggling in the here and now smile

merlotgran Mon 23-Jul-18 13:20:37

What be the fate of all this stockpiled food if Armageddon doesn't happen?

muffinthemoo Mon 23-Jul-18 13:18:00

Joelsnan I admit I was intrigued by the possibility we were going to have to start eating pugs.

Maggiemaybe Mon 23-Jul-18 13:17:52

I'd prefer a pug, Joelsnan. grin My parents kept a large and very bad-tempered pig during the war. They lived in a pub and it once chased my mum into the Gents' and wouldn't let her out.

Joelsnan Mon 23-Jul-18 13:02:37

Sorry! Didnt spell check before posting.

Pigs

Maybe the BBC should start showing Publc Service Broadcasts on how to Pickle, Ferment and dry foods in preparation.
During the 50s just about every house in the street where I luvd kept chickens or pugs. Most still had their back gardens planted with veg. And the front gardens were filled with flowers.

PamelaJ1 Mon 23-Jul-18 12:47:29

I made a mistake about the nature of this post and was quite enjoying it when I believed it was lighthearted.
I have kept dipping in to see how it was going.
My opinion is that I think I was wise to drop out.
There has been a mention of civil war (by Amazon) if we leave the EU without a deal.
I think it’s starting here on GN already.??

MissAdventure Mon 23-Jul-18 12:41:55

I always keep a well stocked cupboard.
Not because of brexit, but because I have worked shifts for years, so like to know I have 'stuff' in.

There are actual ways and means for ordinary people sometimes to store certain preserved foods , tins and so on, which may well become very handy to have in reserve.

I do realise that - come and see my store cupboard Alexa smile

Doodle Mon 23-Jul-18 12:14:43

Don't tempt me ???

kittylester Mon 23-Jul-18 12:06:23

Good post doodle

BTW, we have some cute kittens!

MawBroon Mon 23-Jul-18 12:03:31

gringrin Oops!
Nowt wrong with fluffy kittens but I am not so sure about Taylor Swift!
Might be better going to Radio iPlayer.
Worth a listen even if you are (like me) not necessarily ND’s greatest fan most of the time.

Doodle Mon 23-Jul-18 12:00:48

I got Taylor Swift and some cute puppies and kittens from your link maw. I will try again grin

Doodle Mon 23-Jul-18 11:57:02

grandad, forgive me if I am wrong but I think you usually post on only the political and news threads and possibly have not been on many of the more lighthearted or chatty threads.
Many of us make mistakes in our posts. Some, like you and me, have a problem with spelling. Others make an error when typing and some because our iPads or other devices have a mind of their own and change the spelling of words.
These errors are often picked up by others (or ourselves) and often result in humourous banter and are frequently more funny than the original post. I have had my mistakes pointed out by others and have never felt offended or personally attacked by anyone and have often had a chuckle at the way my post has been changed by my misuse of words.
I think if you had been on more lighthearted threads you would have found some of the fun, humour, laughter and caring that comes from many GN posters and perhaps would put more into context what you seem to feel is a personal slight to you.
Obviously it is entirely up to you what threads you are interested in and may not wish to waste your time on the more frivolous posts but I do think you may see different characters appearing if you do.

MawBroon Mon 23-Jul-18 10:50:28

I wonder if anybody else heard Nadine Dorries just now on Woman’s Hour?

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0660dng
I hope this links to the podcast -if not it was the last item before the serial so about 35-40 minutes in if you prefer to try Radio iPlayer.

Alexa Mon 23-Jul-18 10:02:22

Jalima, surely the best of British humour in the face of adversity doesn't work unless and until the adversity is common knowledge? I know that I personally am a sort of ChickenLicken, however there is reasonable evidence that the UK is losing its commercial strength, and that there will be shortages.

There are actual ways and means for ordinary people sometimes to store certain preserved foods , tins and so on, which may well become very handy to have in reserve.

Jalima- from 5 days ago from Lemongrove:

'It was a joke jura.....just as this whole thread is one big joke.'

it always seems to be a joke when aimed by a certain group of people at a few others - and yet it is taken very seriously and worse- when it goes t'other way round. Funny that - or not ...

jura2 Mon 23-Jul-18 09:31:44

Chewbacca:

,Surely we choose our nicknames because they're easy to remember or are a name that means to something to us? Those who chose to change their names due to technical difficulties (like being unable to log in), or for personal reasons, would hardly have chosen a new name that was so similar to their old one that they would instantly be recognised? It doesn't necessarily mean that name changes are "dishonest" does it?,

perhaps you need to read the Forum Etiquette, which is quite clear on this subject. It is a question of trust - and I chose names which clearly identified me, because of this need for trust. I never accused anyone of dishonesty. It took me ages to work out who the person in question was before, and who she was before that- and perhaps the reasons for some comments or reactions. That does cause a problem of trust. I am who I am- and would never try to make others believe anything else- despite strong personal 'reactions' to me (or even clear attacks at times). Personally I'd say this is more honest- my view.

Jalima1108 Mon 23-Jul-18 09:29:50

I expect my post will be deleted - fair enough - but then perhaps the whole thread should be deleted.

Pity, as it brought out the Best of British - humour in the face of possible adversity.
