Fan y big , a mountain in the Brecon Beacons has been down graded to a hill, a hill? Seems it is just under 2 metres short to be a mountain according to new technology .

Rubbish, it has always been a mountain, always will be . How can we have a mountain range with a hill in it .

I know to read the f as a v so didn’t immediately latch on.
There is no better way to measure the mountain than the old fashioned one of climbing and measuring.

Well i thought it was funny totally childish but hey ho I maybe am, I always want to laugh when Americans talk about fanny bags

oldbatty Sun 19-Aug-18 10:36:27

muffin get a grip mate. Oh no that sounds wrong too. [blush

muffinthemoo Sun 19-Aug-18 10:31:34

You’re not a prude!

I just know from your posts that you tend not to use coarse language so I try not to use it when speaking to you blush

Also now I have outed myself as having the sense of humour of a ten year old, sitting here laughing at “fan y big”

I read it as it was written, Annie or it wouldn't have appeared funny. Not to you, obviously but you have to accept that sometimes people like to lighten up the contents of a thread. I think you know exactly what I was laughing at because you were quick to point out that f is pronounced v. How did you know I was reading it as f if you didn't know what I was getting at?

Just try not to take offence all the time.

janeainsworth Sun 19-Aug-18 10:28:50

merlot That’s hilarious?

Anniebach Sun 19-Aug-18 10:15:39

merlot, familiar with the welsh language ? You knew f was pronounced v but chose to read it as ff.

I am a prude with a chip on my shoulder!

merlotgran Sun 19-Aug-18 10:06:08

I'm familiar with the Welsh language, Annie. The man I was engaged to would have laughed and so would the rest of his Welsh speaking family. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder where the English are concerned. Maybe a sense of humour might help?

Was Scotland up in arms when the marvellous Billy Connolly used to take the mickey out of the Scots accent?

My Yorkshire husband enjoys a joke about his native tongue.....Just as well. grin

Please don't take everything so seriously. There is no offence intended.

oldbatty Sun 19-Aug-18 09:11:32

better than being a prune Annie.

Anniebach Sun 19-Aug-18 09:08:17

Thank you muffin for explaining. If it had been fanny it would be ffanny, ff is f and f is v.

Doesn’t bother me that it was found amusing, use to it, it’s what some English do to the Welsh.

I am really upset that I am considered a prude though.

muffinthemoo Sat 18-Aug-18 23:19:20

If one was not familiar with the Welsh language, it looks like it would be pronounced “fanny big”.

We’re laughing over the word ‘fanny’ blush

Yes I have always found Carry On films hilarious

muffinthemoo Sat 18-Aug-18 23:16:15

Oh Annie, it’s not private, it’s just stupid, and I know you do not use that kind of language anyway!

‘Schoolboy humour’ is a curse

Anniebach Sat 18-Aug-18 22:56:00

Ok, carry on, glad I caused you such amusement, I never take part in private jokes

muffinthemoo Sat 18-Aug-18 22:54:27

I too am dying laughing because I am basically a child inside

Anniebach Sat 18-Aug-18 22:51:44

Never mind, x

MissAdventure Sat 18-Aug-18 22:49:24

Annie, I'm squirming with embarrassment here!
I'm blushing! (And laughing my head off!)

Anniebach Sat 18-Aug-18 22:46:58

I wouldn’t do that, is it because it’s called big?

MissAdventure Sat 18-Aug-18 22:45:06

Oh, Annie..
I'm frightened to explain it because you might tell me off for being so childish. blush

Anniebach Sat 18-Aug-18 22:41:54

I don’t get the joke

MissAdventure Sat 18-Aug-18 22:31:00

grin
Oh dear!
Some of you are a bad influence on me..

MawBroon Sat 18-Aug-18 22:20:33

Anniebach Sat 18-Aug-18 22:11:41

Merlot it’s pronounced van, means big summit

Anniebach Sat 18-Aug-18 22:10:50

Yes lemon, some locals and lovers of MY mountains are discussing doing the same , modern technology my foot .

lemongrove Sat 18-Aug-18 22:03:56

Remember the film, The Man who went up a hill ( and came down a mountain) that was set in Wales wasn’t it?

merlotgran Sat 18-Aug-18 22:02:34

Is that really what it's called? grin
