Fan y big , a mountain in the Brecon Beacons has been down graded to a hill, a hill? Seems it is just under 2 metres short to be a mountain according to new technology .

Rubbish, it has always been a mountain, always will be . How can we have a mountain range with a hill in it .

Greyduster, I had forgotten about Caerphilly mountain , the
Tour of Britain cycle race goes over it, they wouldn’t get very far if they tried Fan y big.

This mountain range is so beautiful, the Green Man Festival was on the Beacons this weekend , I heard about 25,000 attended .

Thank you, Fan a big is deserving of it’s name. I really love those mountains

I have been cogitating (nasty little habit!) over this whole Welsh mountain thing. Why are Caerphilly Mountain and Mynyddislwyn Mountain so designated when they are under three hundred meters. I have been up the former and it didn’t feel like a mountain. We have hills in the Peak District that are higher. If they are truly deserving of the name, then so is yours, Annie.

Nah, the ‘experts’ wouldn’t believe they were the original rocks and they had made a mistake.

The one hill in a mountain range is called big , I see SKY is calling it Fan y not so big

I thought the bluestone would make a nice decorative topping!
(I know they came from the Preseli mountains)

Perhaps we have Rufus ?, but the wrong stone to build up Fan y big

Rufus2 Mon 20-Aug-18 13:46:15

this year they declared the stones were taken there by the Welsh, perhaps time we took em back
Annie; Perhaps you already have! wink I've always wondered who pinched the slabs that are obviously missing. They probably had very big scooters; more than 1HP I'd say!grin

In your opinion merlot, but it was your joke so naturally you would think that. The joker always blames the recipient of their joke, in fairness you were not responsible for those who joined in. . It’s over, I have learned much , now it’s forgotten

merlotgran Mon 20-Aug-18 13:28:20

I'm sorry, Annie but you blew it up out of all proportion.

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 12:36:06

Perhaps I am Billy, but admit the way this thread went did distress me, I only wanted to join in the joke, thought after several years on this forum I was accepted. Never mind . I need to toughen up I suppose . Thank you x

Annie, you seem to be a sensitive soul, I hope you get your mountain sorted out soon.

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 11:25:02

Good grief, I climbed that, now I just look at it.

Can we do it Jalima? Yes we can.

On a personal note, we got engaged on New Years Eve, after the celebrations my husband spent the rest of the night up there, the scouts were camping there and he joined them, I didn’t ? the scouts had an old farm building up there.

Jalima1108 Mon 20-Aug-18 11:08:31

anniebach - together we can do it!!

Jalima1108 Mon 20-Aug-18 11:07:44

Out of puff, am struggling along on my bike pulling a trailer loaded with Welsh bluestones to lug up Fan Y Big to turn it back into a mountain.
Any volunteers to help please, it's quite a long way up this mountain/hill?

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 10:16:39

Mines, you will never know how much your post means to me today, thank you. X

Wish I had never started this thread , yet I have learned much in two days .

Anyway my husband and I climbed the six mountains , future generations will climb five mountains and a hill ?

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 10:11:13

For me get stuffed is no different to sod off, cushions are stuffed, poultry are stuffed , Shirley Conron once said - life is too short to stuff a mushroom, I never thought that was vulgar.

minesaprosecco Mon 20-Aug-18 10:10:10

Pearl clutching in spades! Annie, I truly hope your mountain retains its status, a hill just isn't the same thing. Lovely image of you on your scooter laden down with stones heading for the big summit.

I am a prude and a prune. A prudish prunish.

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 09:51:37

I stand corrected Again

janeainsworth Mon 20-Aug-18 09:43:34

The Oxford Dictionary defines a prude as “A person who is or claims to be easily shocked by matters relating to sex or nudity.”
It doesn’t follow that if you’re not a prude, you have to use vulgar language or coarse expressions to prove your lack of prudishness.

lemongrove Mon 20-Aug-18 09:43:10

grin
My dear old grandad used that phrase a few times, it always amused him (as he thought it was the taxidermy kind of thing.) He was very innocent.

Anniebach Mon 20-Aug-18 08:52:20

Trying to stop being a prude , can’t win can I ?

Grannynise Mon 20-Aug-18 08:49:20

Anniebach I certainly don't wish to upset you but if you intend to avoid offensive language please don't use the expression 'get stuffed'. It's very vulgar.

Anniebach Sun 19-Aug-18 17:30:44

Always wise to use a phrase book when holidaying in a country and you don’t speak the language ?

Greyduster Sun 19-Aug-18 17:28:28

No Jane, it was in Newport, further up the coast. ‘Snug’ was stretching it a bit! It was smaller downstairs than it was upstairs - it only had one bedroom - and we spent a week trying to work out why and came to no useful conclusion, but it was pretty and we enjoyed our stay there.

janeainsworth Sun 19-Aug-18 16:39:05

greyduster was it near St David’s? My parents rented a cottage called Bwthyn Bach in 1956. To say it did not quite meet expectations would be something of an understatement.
My sister and I had to climb up a ladder to get to a sort of half-loft where our bed was.
And climb down again in the middle of the night if we needed the loo which was outside.
My parents went on about it for yearsgrin
