The Last Days of Mrs May?

So 50 MPs met to discuss getting rid of her, should we be counting the days? Or will she simply stay because there's no other suitable candidate and no one wants a poisoned chalice?

EllanVannin Tue 04-Dec-18 19:17:05

That doesn't surprise me Anniebach.

Anniebach Tue 04-Dec-18 19:15:25

Corbyn wants out ,

Surprisingly, I agree with you smileless that it is very unlikely that the EU will renegotiate, so our MPs should chose between TM's deal, leaving us a lot worse off than we are now, a "no-deal" brexit, described today by Oliver Letwin, Tory MP as "catastrophic" and by the President of the NFU as "Armageddon" which would empoverish our children and grandchildren for the rest of their lives, or the sensible option of revoking Article 50 and Remaining in the EU.

Smileless2012 Tue 04-Dec-18 11:51:20

The EU wont renegotiate newnanny and all I've heard from MP's who don't like the deal that's been negotiated is simply that, they don't like it.

No concrete alternatives, no mention as to how they would get the EU to renegotiate, just a lot of hot air.

MaizieD Tue 04-Dec-18 10:41:20

I would prefer us to leave with no deal

newnanny Do you absolutely understand what the effect of leaving with 'no deal' would be? If you do, could you explain it to me please because I don't understand why just about everyone who is anyone, nationally and internationally, is saying that it would be national suicide. But perhaps they, and I, have missed some vitally significant point which you know about.

I don't think May will survive the vote and she is making it harder for herself by refusing to have legal advice published. How on earth can the MP's make an informed vote if the facts are hidden form them. I can only assume the advice was it is a really bad deal for UK stating we can never get out of Customs Union unless EU agree to it and as we are going to be paying between £12 and £25 billion every year so why would they ever agree I think the 5 days of debating will help and really I would prefer us to leave with no deal than be trapped forever with no escape clause. We will not be able to do free trade deals for goods with any country unless it is aligned closely with EU. I think a May's deal will be voted down and then hopefully the letters of no confidence will go in en mass. I owuld like to see a new leader for the Conservatives as then they could go back to renegotiate with EU. May is bad negotiator.

I’m not sure what an “amazing new future” supporters think we will have in no deal Brexit land. Oh I know, none of that terrible foreign food in our shops, lots of lovely lard and mince to enjoy, none of those pesky furriners working in our hospitals and care homes, life is going to be so marvellous. Meanwhile all those unimportant issues like climate change and policing will get forgotten while our esteemed politicians squabble over which TV channel to hold a pointless debate.

Mr Speaker has informed the House of Commons that he believes there is an "arguable case" that a contempt of Parliament has been committed in relation to a failure to comply with a resolution of the House on the publication of #Brexit legal advice. As a result, Mr Speaker will give precedence to a motion tabled tonight, for debate as the first item of business in the House of Commons tomorrow.

This has just been tweeted by the official House of Commons twitter account.

If the motion is carried it could possibly lead to a vote of confidence in T May.

Brexit gets more 'interesting' by the minute...

winterwhite Mon 03-Dec-18 21:57:06

This long thread started out about Teresa May and whether she should / will stay or go. She certainly doesn’t deserve to stay if she won’t publish the latest legal advice on Brexit in full. She has been bad all along at keeping others informed, and this so-called ‘position statement’ has all the air of another dodgy dossier.

27% of the British people voted leave in 2018 but the polls now show that most people want to Remain. The reluctance of the leavers to allow the people to vote again indictates that they know this.

Anniebach Mon 03-Dec-18 20:33:15

varian no one knows the will of the British people in 2018,
We know the will of the British people in 2016, we voted leave

In a speech on the European Union (EU), Mr Davis said: “If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy”.

At the time he was criticising the EU for imposing irreversible laws on member states - something the current Brexit Secretary said was "not just undemocratic, it is anti-democratic”.

The will of the British people in 2018 is to Remain in the EU. The tiny majority that the leave liars achieved two years ago has evaporated as people have started to learn the truth about brexit.

andycameron69 Mon 03-Dec-18 18:45:11

we cannot remain as we voted to leave,, amazing our new future.

I know nothing about health benefits because I haven't needed them. Even having a TIA 12 months ago I returned to fitness though now and again a bit iffy when walking but nevertheless I'm still able to get around which means that I wouldn't be eligible anyway but at 78 if I " put it on " I'd probably receive something but I'm not made that way as there are others far worse off.

MaizieD Mon 03-Dec-18 10:55:49

If you're entitled to them, EV why aren't you claiming them now?

EllanVannin Mon 03-Dec-18 10:50:08

Ah well if all this goes t*ts up and JC is elected and knowing how " generous " Labour are with other people's money I'm going to claim for all kinds of sickness payments. My motto will be if you can't beat'em then join'em.
Is that " right wing " enough for you MaizieD ?

The UK faces a "constitutional crisis" if Theresa May does not publish the full legal advice on her Brexit deal on Monday, Labour has warned.

The PM says the advice is confidential, but some MPs think ministers do not want to admit it says the UK could be indefinitely tied to EU customs rules.

Sam Gyimah, who quit the government on Friday, said releasing the advice was "key to restoring trust in politics".

Attorney General Geoffrey Cox will make a statement about it later.

He is set to publish a reduced version of the legal advice - despite calls from MPs from all parties to publish a full version.

MPs say this will not not respect a binding Commons vote last month, which required the government to lay before Parliament "any legal advice in full".

crystaltipps if we'd have stuck with the EU those deprived parts of London would eventually have been funded by them. Our councils are " broke " ( debateable ) as by the time they've paid their ambassadors/consultants/managers there's very little left for things of importance. You've only to look at the sad sight of Grenfell tower and ask yourself how long will it be before it's demolished. It costs !

crystaltipps Mon 03-Dec-18 07:29:19

There are plenty of deprived areas in London and the South East Ellan

Fennel Sun 02-Dec-18 22:41:30

There's no reply to that, Ellan.
I hope the result turns out better for Liverpool.
I feel a bit like that for Tyneside, but I think/hope we will have more resources to keep going.
