Aldi have announced a large expansion and are about to employ a further 1000 members of staff. They aren't worried about Brexit then.

Can you hear a pin drop?

POGS Wed 10-Oct-18 22:19:11

Maw

Never mind about 'plaits' and pony tails I am interested in your post of Tue 09-Oct-18 22:04:30 as that is my opinion too.

jura

Why do you think Lidl and Aldi are expanding in the UK ? You would think given your appraisal of all things Brexit related they would be running for the hills.

And from Wikipedia
In the context of hairstyles, the usage of the term pigtail (or twintail or twin tail) shows considerable variation. The term may refer to a single braid, but is more frequently used in the plural to refer to twin braids on opposite sides of the head.

And I do know what a pony tail is!

MawBroon Wed 10-Oct-18 22:09:15

There is certainly no such exercise as “platting” hair!
Tresses translates as “braids” which is an older word for plaits

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 21:35:46

NO, platts - and pigtails are totally different. And so is a poney tail. Do check.

MawBroon Wed 10-Oct-18 21:32:44

Or even pigtails but the joke would have lost its point. smile

MawBroon Wed 10-Oct-18 21:31:16

plaits, Jura plaits

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 20:08:13

oh yes, Merlot- great film.

We were at the station in Switzerland, waiting for our return train to London - the girls and myself, and my dad. He started platting one of the girls hair- and asked me, in French, how do you say 'tresse' in English- so I replied 'platts' - the dog with them man standing next to us immediately sat down and starred at me ;) -a joke too, but true story.

merlotgran Wed 10-Oct-18 20:02:16

It was just a joke, jura. A reference to a scene in The Great Escape.

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 19:54:27

why not Merlot - with OH, we always speak English together- it's been our common language for 48 years - hard to change now. But his French is very good, so we switch when in company. Nought wrong with that- at the station or anywhere else.

MawBroon Wed 10-Oct-18 19:47:24

Better not head for GabriellaG’s exclusive corner of the Home Counties as only English is ever heard there.

merlotgran Wed 10-Oct-18 19:44:34

they speak many languages too, very helpful

They won't get caught out speaking English at the railway station then. grin

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 19:34:41

Neighbours and family Maw- I choose my friends very carefully ;)

no need to rush for them- as they have so many options - they speak many languages too, very helpful

OMG, jura, You're conjuring up a vision of escaping POWs.
It's OK merlot, they don't have to start digging - there's an escape tunnel already!
Someone had some foresight grin

MawBroon Wed 10-Oct-18 17:13:10

I am happy to say I do not know anybody who is so uncouth as to imply I had timed my visit or phone call badly because it coincided with The Archers or indeed any radio or TV programme.
The is such a thing as iPlayer and there are also of course repeats on subsequent days.
I suggest you recomsider who are your friends * Jura*

Sounds like they'd better not leave it too late. grin

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 13:11:48

Maizie, lol. In the past, I have found Archers' fans so so rude- if you happen to visit when it is on - the welcome would be rather frosty!

Mind you, I do watch East Enders, and have been known to say -'call you back when EE is finished' ...

Fennel - yes, they do. Which is why I feel very strongly about Brexit and the future consequences for them- and of course, other family and friends.

Ours are lucky - they can access both Irish and Swiss passports - and have a way out if and when ...

MaizieD Wed 10-Oct-18 12:11:56

Is following The Archers the latest test of Britishness?

Fennel Wed 10-Oct-18 11:50:01

jura - do your daughters and grandchildren still live in the UK?

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 10:32:45

So, Aldi and Liddle can see new opportunities opening up - at the same time as Brexit negotiations are going t*ts up - it is indeed debatable and up to interpretation as to what the reasoning is. Whether it is good for British competition, farmers and producers - will remain to be seen.

On the face of it - I'd say no, but we can agree to disagree.

I do use Liddle and Aldi from time to time, on both side of the border - very happily.

jura2 Wed 10-Oct-18 10:23:51

Maw, no, not the Archers, sorry to disappoint ;)
