They are going to be sorely disgusted in Tunbridge- for sure.

oldbatty Mon 15-Oct-18 14:37:54

I don't think jokes about people traveling in refrigerated lorries are funny.

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 14:34:42

As for the sheep and cattle on the M26 - how long do you think a refrigerated lorry can refrigerate? And are live transporters refrigerated?

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 14:33:37

Oh, yes, many have. And I have taken it on the chin - but OH- no, no way.

I can understand why it confused you- and I explained why, as we moved abroad for a while, to look after my very elderly parents (now gone) - and are solely on British pension and no other income, and reciprocal health care- we are just as concerned. Especially has DDs and GDs are still there and we hve property there. I really don't wish to repeat again.

But the question is to Maw - as she was the one with the 'hmm' - she owes me an explanation for that 'hmm'. Others have questionned my Britishness again and again Jalima.

Jalima1108 Mon 15-Oct-18 14:27:33

Has anyone questioned your Britishness?
I don't think so, certainly I have not as members of my family have more than one nationality
It's just the fact that you don't live here which confused me.

Jalima1108 Mon 15-Oct-18 14:25:58

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 14:19:18

I'll ask again:

oh I did understand Maw - could you please clarify what the 'hmm' is all about?

About nationality. Many of you have made it clear that as I was not born and bred in UK, and only became British at the age of 22 - I am not really 'British'. Fair enough -

but are you saying that my OH, who just happened to be born abroad, of a British father, and full British ancestry to the Domesday book - is not really British- or not quite enough for your taste? Even though he lived and worked in the UK from the age of 2 and can't remember a thing about where he happened to be born. Really? If that is it - have the guts to say it outloud and own it.

Jalima1108 Mon 15-Oct-18 14:18:44

55.8% Remain to 44.2% Leave with a turnout of 62.7%

MaizieD Mon 15-Oct-18 13:41:38

I know some NI people voted Leave, lemon but the majority voted Remain. So, if the 'will' of the majority is indeed paramount, she is not representing her country.

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 13:36:43

Which is perhaps why, Brexit is un-delivreable, and has been from the start- partly because of the Irish border- and the DUP.

What is the solution then - some of us have been asking for a very long time. The clear question was asked on 29th of September, I believe, and we have had not a peep out of any leaver, apart from 'trust them, they will deliver' - they can't deliver the impossible.

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 13:33:55

oh I did understand Maw - could you please clarify what the 'hmm' is all about?

lemongrove Mon 15-Oct-18 13:23:00

Wrong Maizie as some of the people there did vote Leave.
In any case, it is important for all the people in NI that they are not cut adrift in any way at all from the rest of the UK.

MaizieD Mon 15-Oct-18 13:18:36

^ it’s incredibly important to get it right for the pepople there.^

Let's not forget that the 'pepople' there didn't want to leave the EU. Foster is not representing them.

lemongrove Mon 15-Oct-18 13:10:52

Yes, jura I expect all travel in future will mean sharing space with slaughtered animals. You must get used to it.?

lemongrove Mon 15-Oct-18 13:09:28

Gill....first of all, you should be very very careful about what you put on here, a public forum about a public figure ( in this case Arlene Foster) as it could be taken as libel ( there was a case on Mumsnet like this that was prosecuted.)
Secondly, she will do what is best in her view for NI.As will the others in the DUP.NI is an important part of the UK and it’s incredibly important to get it right for the pepople there.

MawBroon Mon 15-Oct-18 12:56:43

Fully comprehend
Not the “confused” emoticon confused, but the “hmm” one hmm

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 12:55:13

Very clear Maw - for me, adult life- for OH adult life + most of his childhood. Very simple - sorry it is beyond your comprehension.

MawBroon Mon 15-Oct-18 12:51:43

Because we are both British, and because we have lived in the UK all our adult life, and for OH from the age of 2

hmm

MawBroon Mon 15-Oct-18 12:50:32

hmm So Swiss citizens when it suits but UK citizens (or British to the bone ) when it comes to haranguing others?

Jalima1108 Mon 15-Oct-18 12:48:24

It won't be worth coming, will it, by the sounds of it sad

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 12:36:18

Well, it is very simple Jalima- did they work in the EU, or in the UK?

Neither of us have ever worked here, apart from a couple of Saturday jobs when I was in Lycée/6th Form - so we are not entitled to any pension or support here, and totally dependent on our UK pensions and reciprocal health care - 100%.

GillT57- we will be using our Swiss passports, bright red, in future- but not even those will allow us to by-pass the queues in Kent, or get us on a flight- or get us through the closed Channel Tunnel ...

Hope we don't have to share with slaughtered sheep and cattle, for sure.

GillT57 Mon 15-Oct-18 12:25:43

Indeed jura, truly fabulous. Still, it will all be wonderful when we have cast off the shackles of the EU, got back control of our borders ( apart from leaving a great big door wide open in Ireland), taken back control ( and given it to a bloody crook who is not even able/permitted to be part of her own government), and able to make our own laws.....sounds good doesn't it? I hope the blue passports are worth it, mind you, we won't need them to sit in a traffic jam in Kent, sharing port-a-loos with lorry drivers.

Jalima1108 Mon 15-Oct-18 12:22:05

I don't know jura, never ask them about their financial arrangements. One at least used to work for the EU though - so where will that pension come from?

jura2 Mon 15-Oct-18 11:54:36

So we go from being one of the most influential partners in the EU, with exceptions no other partner has ever been able to acquire, and doing really well after the financial crisis -

to being led by the lovely Arlene and 10 DUP MPs. Yep- that is what I would call taking back control. And over a barrel from said previous partners for most of our major utilities, transport, medicines and so much more.

As Craig would say 'fa - boooo - lous'.

GillT57 Mon 15-Oct-18 11:34:23

Glad to make you laugh lemon, but please, I am not, and never have been, a supporter of Corbyn, and no, I don't think he would necessarily make a better job of it, but this isn't the real issue is it? Even with your touching faith that everything will be ok just as long as we all trust the government to get on with it, even you have to admit that this is a bloody mess? We are in a terrible state when someone like Arlene Foster ( who should be in court, facing charges of fraud imo) holds the democratically elected government to ransom, so much for taking back control eh?
