just a bit of 'mithering' here:

It suits today the weak and base,
Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place
To cringe before the rich man's frown,
And haul the sacred emblem down.

"And in this particular case, it was rather a cruel and unpleasant bit of scaremongering too."
I agree Chewbacca. I've been very worried about this for some time, in fact I mentioned it last year in another Brexit thread.
It certainly doesn't help when someone adds to the panic, getting all melodramatic, running around like a headless chicken.

Chewbacca Sun 14-Oct-18 18:48:02

confused but is "left wing" or "right wing" not an indication of how one votes oldbatty?

oldbatty Sun 14-Oct-18 18:44:42

I didn't bring up the subject of how people vote.

jura2 Sun 14-Oct-18 18:37:43

many have made it very clear that they have voted 'remain' or 'leave' irrespective of party affiliation.

Jalima1108 Sun 14-Oct-18 18:27:13

and you're not rude oldbatty?

I don't know jura, I don't know how she votes.
You don't know how anyone votes unless they say, do you?

oldbatty Sun 14-Oct-18 18:25:57

Right wing clique..... Let's see.... Perhaps you would like to nominate yourselves.

oldbatty Sun 14-Oct-18 18:23:59

I don't know jura, I don't know how she votes. I know your comment was rude.

lemongrove Sun 14-Oct-18 18:18:24

oldbatty ...oh dear!
jura isn’t a Labour voter you know ( maybe you don’t!) grin
Everybody who has said they don’t agree with her outrageous comments have different politics and voted in different ways at the Referendum ( and have said so, on past threads.)

Jalima1108 Sun 14-Oct-18 18:11:25

Very cruel Chewbacca

Chewbacca Sun 14-Oct-18 18:10:56

I'm not right wing oldbatty, far from it. But I do like to know when I'm being told a fact, and when I'm being told something that the OP "thinks" could happen. There's enough fake news flying around regarding world events without random grannies adding their own little bit of scaremongering as well. And in this particular case, it was rather a cruel and unpleasant bit of scaremongering too.

Jalima1108 Sun 14-Oct-18 18:10:35

Has anyone on here, right, left, centre, upside down, Brexiteer, Remainer, abstainer, defended anything at all?

confused

GillT57 Sun 14-Oct-18 18:08:31

Careful now oldbatty. Some on here will accuse you of being a "leftie" or even a Corbynista.

MawBroon Sun 14-Oct-18 18:07:54

Now who or what do you define as the “Right Wing Clique” *oldbatty”?

oldbatty Sun 14-Oct-18 18:04:09

Let's face it, the right wing clique would rally round and defend just about anything.

MawBroon Sun 14-Oct-18 18:01:41

Slippery little devils, facts. grin

Chewbacca Sun 14-Oct-18 17:51:40

As I thought then. grin

jura2 Sun 14-Oct-18 17:50:07

Chewbacca- nothing is a provable fact at the moment for Brexit - as no-one, not even the Government, seem to have a clue. What the links I have given, which you have so far refused to even look at ... show experts sharing grave concerns of what is possibly going to be consequences- should we end up with a 'no deal' or a bad deal.

Serious concerns are serious enough for many to be ...seriously concerned. That is not hysteria, or scare mongering -as many of you have called it- but the very possible reality in case of the above.

MawBroon Sun 14-Oct-18 16:59:43

Ah, that too * Pamela*, hardly a shocking turn of phrase.

MawBroon Sun 14-Oct-18 16:58:38

That apology would appear to be for repeaing what somebody else said, (the “mithering” remark on the Aldi thread?) not the sentence many of us took exception to.

PamelaJ1 Sun 14-Oct-18 16:56:47

Well I think, Maw, that Jura was referring to me when I told her she might as well chill.
I presume she thought that I meant the the Brexit issue was totally unimportant.
I don’t feel it’s unimportant at all, but we are brexiting. Fact.
There will be some problems. Fact.
As individuals we can do nothing. Fact.
We have to leave it to the negotiating team ( whatever we may feel about them) and trust that they have heard and understood the myriad problems that may crop up. Fact.
So why not chill? Not such a shocking concept.

petra Sun 14-Oct-18 16:55:16

MawBroon
It was 'sort of there' at 11.22.
I'd even go so far as to apologise, etc
Not what I'd call a genuine heartfelt apology.

Chewbacca Sun 14-Oct-18 16:50:51

As for answering the question Maw- that is the very issue. Brexiters never do, and often make it clear they have no intention whatsoever of doing so

And neither, on this occasion, have you. And, as you have done on another thread that involved Brexit, I will ask you the same question again:

Is the statement that you made, @ 17.11 yesterday, afraid their kid will not get their insulin, epipens or cancer therapy a provable fact? If it is, please could you post us one of your links, so that we can read the full fact document. If it was not a fact, and was actually only something that you fear may happen post Brexit, please could you confirm that so that those of us affected by this startling news can cope with it.

As for your apology, I'm sorry, I missed that.

MawBroon Sun 14-Oct-18 16:46:38

That shocking language was used by others re very difficult and complicated issues - which was ... shocking, and yes, really upset me, to the point of re-using it to highlight how despicable and insensitive it is

No, it was your post of yesterday at 17.11 about mothers of children with cancer which was shocking language

MawBroon Sun 14-Oct-18 16:43:46

I think I missed any apology.
Please do not divide the population of Gransnet into Remainers (hurrah) dyed in the wool Brexiteers ( boo)
You do not know how any of us voted and Infind your assumptions impertinent.
