You also made ONE big mistake yesterday jura in your post of 21.02 when you asked me if I was like Johnson senior, when you mis quoted him regarding the Irish and I am still waiting for your apology.

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 19:13:43

Don't worry about me. I made ONE big mistake today- was picked up on it- put my hands up and apologised as soon as I realised.

His words were not Mrs Thatcher's, they were his.

Chewbacca Wed 17-Oct-18 18:25:57

Probably petra, but I hate to see anyone who is so committed to a cause make a fool of themselves, over and over again, and alienate people in the process. And thats exactly what jura keeps on doing.

petra Wed 17-Oct-18 17:46:15

mistakes
I think your being too kind Chewbacca

Chewbacca Wed 17-Oct-18 17:38:05

Have it your own way jura, but you'll have only yourself to blame when you get picked up, again for repeatedly making the same mistakes.

petra Wed 17-Oct-18 17:37:32

Perhaps something gets lost in translation grin

lemongrove Wed 17-Oct-18 17:36:38

Hear hear Chewbacca ??

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 17:33:47

Yes, Chewbacca, he said them, and it wasn't hers.

Chewbacca Wed 17-Oct-18 16:40:30

Makes no difference whatsoever- putting those words in Mrs T's mouth was inexcusable and very offensive.

But you put words in Stanley Johnson's mouth, that had never been said and you think that's ok! What dual standards is that! Really jura, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, to garner support for your way of thinking and to encourage people to see what you're trying to tell them; you ave to be scrupulously accurate with the facts that you're presenting as evidence. Just making things up; twisting them into something that just provides confirmation bias for your opinion, is completely and totally wrong and you will keep getting caught out on it. And you just keep on doing it. sigh

MawBroon Wed 17-Oct-18 16:40:03

And repeating them ....to get a reaction hmm

Yes, he was a Remainer though some posters didn’t realise that fact

What on earth does him being a Remainer have to do with him saying something deeply rather unpleasant about the Irish?

In the meantime:

Play with words 'it would have been better' will have to do for now, and I'll happily add 'sorry'. The video however made his position quite clear - he was the one who was Chinese whispering, as those words were not, and would never have, been said by Mrs Thatcher. Like her or not, she had a good brain and some statemanship.

lemongrove Wed 17-Oct-18 13:34:49

Who cares what Stanley says, I mean really ! But if you do, at least get the quote right.
Yes, he was a Remainer though some posters didn’t realise that fact.

Thanks for your link Elegran. Interesting courses.

MawBroon Wed 17-Oct-18 13:32:29

<sigh>
Much ado about nothing.
Chinese whispers are extremely dangerous as is not being prepared to put your hand up and admit “I got it wrong, sorry”.

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 13:32:15

10.08.39 was in response to Elegran's post just before:

'I agree, it would have been better. But the link to the video was posted for all to see and make their own mind up. To my mind, his demeanour makes it clear he agrees- and also he did not quote Mrs Thatcher, HE CHOSE the words- and clearly agreed with them.'

^Perhaps, and in fact for sure, those who voted for Brexit were not fully aware of such consequences. Not surprisingly, as no information was given.
But now, we do know - and we should fight for a second vote, and people should vote with the facts.
Or are you like Johnson Senior, and say as he did today, that the Irish and the Unionists can start shooting each other again- if they so wish- and we should ignore it^

Ahem! confusedconfusedNo link there.

I linked to the video last night at 10.36 but in fact after others had already pointed out your isrresentation of the facts by twisting of the quotation. Do you live in some fantasy world or parallel universe? Speechless!

No comment was made about your DH’s nationality.
I did wonder about alternation Swiss and U.K. passportswhen convenient though.

Futurelearn has just sent me one of their regular and frequent emails with information about free courses about to start. One of them is The NHS Explained: How the Health System in England Really Works a four-week free online course requiring two hours per week. "This course will help you understand what keeps the fifth largest employer in the world running. You’ll explore current and future challenges facing the NHS, and the ways in which we can tackle these challenges to ensure a system fit for the future."

I pass it on in case anyone on this thread with an interest in the NHS would like to have a look at it.

Maw 'So is this fizzling out? hmm
No comment from Jura on the misrepresentation - is that it then?'

no, I responded even before you asked - at 10.08.39. And since I linked to the video itself from the beginning, it was there for all to see.

Still waiting however for your explanation re my husband's Britishness and your 'hmm'.

Below is the latest statement by the Road Haulage Association in regard to a No Deal Brexit

Statement begins here:-
The Road Haulage Association is warning plans in the Government’s latest technical notice on commercial freight in the EU are too little, too late.

The RHA is astounded by the suggestion that hauliers should consider alternative modes of transport to move goods between the UK and the EU in the event of a ‘no-deal’ Brexit.

RHA chief executive, Richard Burnett said: “Goods are moved by road because of speed and efficiency – the UK relies on it’s incredibly efficient supply chain for consumers and businesses to get the things they need.

“This would very quickly put the manufacturing sector under severe pressure and the hauliers they rely on out of business.”

The Government has not said if it will require EU hauliers to apply for ECMT permits to enter the UK if UK operators are forced to obtain ECMT permits to enter the EU. The RHA says it’s unacceptable if permit requirements are not reciprocal.

We’re very concerned that there’s no mention of plans for freight movements between the UK and the Irish Republic.
Statement ends.

I expect that some on this forum will wish to dismiss the above as " scaremongering" yet again. However, in my own work I am finding there is now very real concern in the road transport industry in regard to the situation facing the industry and the country on the 30th March next year.
