Harrumph!
I know appearance is not everything, but could Jeremy Corbyn not have found a more appropriate coat and tie?
Looks like a bit of a passive aggressive statement to me.

Ah, Carolina55but the Royals have been brought up to know and understand the protocols of these events and can afford the appropriate clothes so that if they dressed like Corbyn it would be a calculated insult.

Corbyn is just another cloth-earred Socialist leader who tries to hide an impeccably middle class background behind an aggressively working class act

Before anyone tries to chastise me, the 'aggressively' describes the act not the working classes.

I have one of those little metal poppies I prefer it to the usual ones which fall out of the buttonhole. I also have a big crocheted one which I have on one of my coats. I don’t think the size of the poppy is an indication of anything. I am not a JC fan btw, but a couple of years ago at the Remembrance Day March he was one of the few who stayed right to the end applauding the veterans marchpast when other dignitaries had disappeared off to lunch. That did put him up a notch in my estimation . I don’t think his supporters will be bothered one iota by what coat he had on or the size of his poppy. Just something for the Tory press to latch onto - shock horror Corby. Has smaller poppy than May.

I think he really doesn't care about his clothes, its not important to him.
The way a potential leader looks is important and he has advisors to tell him these things, does he ignore the advice? I think the older generation sets more store by appearances than younger people.

Carolina55 Mon 12-Nov-18 15:34:54

Wonder what folks would say if any of the royals turned out dressed like that........

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 15:32:45

He has got a nice coat, though, trisher
It's not as if he can't afford one.

Just pray that someone so principled and cloth eared, mentally and physically, never ends up governing the country.

I don't suppose any of the people supposedly being honoured at the Cenotaph would give two hoots about what someone was wearing. They might however question, the policies that have led to children being homeless and left working people reliant on food banks, and judge the people wearing designer hats and coats responsible for implementing them.

M0nica Mon 12-Nov-18 15:18:44

Lets face it the man is, and always been a sartorial disaster area. This time he proudly dressed as a true man of the people.

How many good solid ordinary working class people living in tower blocks in the inner city, beset by problems of poverty can afford a cloth coat they would never otherwise wear. The surprise is that he wasn't wearing jeans.

All hail to the man who dressed as his principles dictated.

Just pray that someone so principled and cloth eared, mentally and physically, never ends up governing the country.

The stylists got to JC when he became party leader - got him out of the ill-fitting beige jackets with no tie and into gravitas navy suits and a smart red tie. I guess that's why he was wearing a proper coat last year. They must have forgotten to check this year and he reverted to his normal sartorial inelegance.

'I care about veterans. That's why I think the Royal British legion should be dissolved with it's £300 million of fixed assets redistributed to Britain's 13,000 homeless ex service personnel'
and when it's gone, it's gone and families that may need help in the future will get nothing.

Presumably he wants what he thinks is 'his share', but what is he actually doing?

He can apply for help, as can anyone.

I didn't actually notice what JC was wearing, I was just aware that he was there with a wreath.

POGS Bastanis video say exactly that has been "all over Twitter" this last week.

POGS Mon 12-Nov-18 14:59:04

Granjura

Novara Media are regularly on our television as an informal spokesperson for the Corbyn/ Momentum party. Is Novara Media known very much in Switzerland.?

The reason I ask is Aaron Bastanni, a regular Novara Media Corbyn / Momentum far left activist, has caused quite a stir over the wearing of the poppy and Rembrence Day.

' Some' of what Bastani says:

' We all know about the poppy appeal, it's a bit of a joke for people on the left, every November this happens.

" I think the poppy appeal is grotesque, it has a kind of triumphalist militarism to it. It's racist, right, it's white supremacist"

" When was the last time the Royal British Legion challenged the government on homelessness and public services? Joke.'

'I care about veterans. That's why I think the Royal British legion should be dissolved with it's £300 million of fixed assets redistributed to Britain's 13,000 homeless ex service personnel'

Bastani also mocks the Invictus Games, an biennial athletic competition for armed forces veterans set up by Prince Harry, as a 'bizarre PR exercise' for the royal family.

Bastani / Novara Media speaks for Corbyn / Momentum and I have to say I know when he says: " We all know about the poppy appeal, it's a bit of a joke for people on the left, every November this happens." he does speak for some but most certainly I hope not for the majority who I think would be appalled to be associated that particular view.

no Trump is clearly not the only politician, he came to my mind because he has been in the news. His wife looks stunning ( most of the time) but I don't suppose she is happy.
Exterior and interior don't always match up.

What's the point of this point scoring?

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:51:51

the heavens

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:51:40

Oh, sorry, no Anniebach, I meant that my good wool coat got damp but is just fine, and even after last year when we the heavens opened at 11 am.

So there was no real need to wear a mac - I am sticking with the moths theory, and the fact that he is unsartorial.

Anniebach Mon 12-Nov-18 14:47:29

Were you in London Jalima ?

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:36:37

It drizzled here.
My best coat survived the rain, as did DH's.

Anniebach Mon 12-Nov-18 14:33:49

Weather was atrocious? rain ? No. Snow ? No. Gales ? No.
Drizzling ? No.

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:31:16

Goodness, me defending Corbyn
I should go and have a lie down with a nice brew

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:30:36

Is Trump the only politician to put forward as a comparison?
Well, I mentioned Trump because, like him or loathe him, he does look smart.
However, I brought his name into the conversation because Corbyn did turn up and lay a wreath at the Cenotaph but Trump couldn't turn up at a ceremony at a ceremony in Belgium.

It's beginning to remind me of that Wallace and Gromit film The Wrong Trousers'.

To be fair, I don't think that Jeremy looks smart even when he tries. He's just one of those people.
He probably thought his tie matched his poppy as well.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:28:37

One ex-soldiers view.

I am extremely proud of my serving Officer AC. Who has taken part in Remembrance Day Parades since being a cadet. They had Parades, all be it on a smaller scale, whilst in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia to name just a few. This is not a view that they or their serving friends hold.

Oops to many "opportunities" in last sentence- sorry ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 12-Nov-18 14:15:02

I think if your photo/video footage is going to be beamed across the free world, you have a duty as The elected head of a parliamentary party to look smart and statesmen like.

If he cannot organise his wardrobe, what chance has he of organising the UK.

He seems to have adopted a very low profile politically at the moment, when you would have thought HE would be taking every opportunity to "oppose" the government at any and every opportunity?

gillybob Mon 12-Nov-18 13:50:04

Me too merlot confused
