Scottish Independence

Sticking my head above the parapet here - preparing to be shot down in flames. My question is this - if Scotland wish to be truly independent, why do they wish to stay in the EU? I don't understand why the SNP are so keen to be independent of Westminster, but are still willing to be dictated to by Brussels. Can someone north of the border please enlighten me? This is a genuine question, I'm not posting just to fan the flames of proud Scots, I love Scotland. Now putting my hard hat on ……… smile

Oohhh lemon nice example of dishing it out but not being able to take it. So MD is childish? Maybe it’s you that is talking about youbrself there grin

There is no chance that the Scots will vote for Independence once we leave the EU.Am amazed that some don’t see that.
Their big chance was last time, and they lost the vote.

The thing is MaizieD that your childish leaping on my hundreds of years comment was the only way you could hit back, so a bit sad really.
Oh MaryE are you actually talking about yourself there...
hmm

Jane10 Fri 30-Nov-18 09:59:29

£15 million spent so far by SNP on spin doctors to promote their views of themselves.
Info from FOI request. Not impressed at this waste of tax payers money. Not surprised either.

MaizieD Fri 30-Nov-18 09:49:39

What a pedant you are MaizieD

I can't help thinking that it is a sad contempt for accuracy among parts of the UK population that has got us into the current Brexit mess. A few more pedants wouldn't come amiss...

maryeliza54 Fri 30-Nov-18 09:36:01

Sorry forgot to ad grin grin

maryeliza54 Fri 30-Nov-18 09:34:26

Well lemon better a pedant than someone who just has to make personal comments about posters that don’t share her particular point of view and what is more a poster who is able to argue cogently, intelligently and in a well informed manner.

We are stronger in the UK and in the EU

lemongrove Fri 30-Nov-18 08:06:58

We are one small island here, ridiculous to break up the union, but some would rather be part of a massive federal EU it seems.

lemongrove Fri 30-Nov-18 08:03:33

What a pedant you are MaizieD grin

It feels like hundreds of years of inept SNP govt up here! Educational attainment has plummeted so badly that it's not now to be measured! Many many unfilled teaching posts. The expensive waste that was the named person's scheme. Health and social care crisis widely reported. Centralised police a disaster. There are so many failures that it's boring to list them if only it wasn't so frustrating. Meanwhile Nicola rushes from photo opportunity to photo opportunity in her wee red suit.
I can understand Granny23 and her blind loyalty to a historical dream but I find it hard to live with the strident nationalism that just ignores the rest of us and how we do not want to leave the UK - and we are the majority.

MaizieD Fri 30-Nov-18 00:25:35

We must live in a different universe, lemon; I see and hear plenty of support for Scottish independence.

And, no. I don't count 300 years as 'hundreds and hundreds'. Not out of a recorded history of Britain that goes back 2,000 years.

Jalima1108 Thu 29-Nov-18 23:50:48

311 years, 10 months and 13 days

Is that correct?

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:31:01

mcem .... others on here and elsewhere have said the same
As I did, that from what we see and hear there is no real appetite in Scotland for Independence. That may upset you but so be it.

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:23:18

And now that we have established that ( hundreds and hundreds) is everybody happy?
Time for beddy byes.moon

mcem Thu 29-Nov-18 23:22:33

So "all you've seen and heard" is a meaningless remark then?
All was the word you used while I mentioned GN as only one source of information but one I know you use.
Oddly enough I am vaguely aware that the independence issue may have been discussed elsewhere.
But you've given me a good idea (there's a first!). Next time I see a predictably carping post I'll try the la-la-la ing and think of the 3 wise monkeys!

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:20:14

Tired slip....grin over 300.

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:18:36

Since the Union was formed in around the early 1700’s then over four hundred years......hundreds and hundreds in other words.

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:13:49

......and MaryE steps in with her usual pleasant views.
Can’t wait to hear more.. hmm

maryeliza54 Thu 29-Nov-18 23:12:32

I think I’d give the exact number myself or at least say over 300years - But then I’m a bit of a stickler for facts and accuracy which sometimes doesn’t go down well on GN

maryeliza54 Thu 29-Nov-18 23:10:32

I wondered about that MD it means 304 I think

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:09:58

The same as you I expect MaizieD or do you count differently I wonder.

maryeliza54 Thu 29-Nov-18 23:09:23

Spot on mcem. In some ways it must be nice to have such a simple view of complex situations - saves a lot of bother thinking I suppose.

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 23:08:44

Nonsense mcem there is more than GN you know, when it comes to news and facts about Scotland.
I think, if you imagine there will ever be Independence, then you may well be loudly la-la-ing yourself. Not enough want it or are even concerned about it.The SNP and their supporters shout loudly about it for sure, but that isn’t enough.

mcem Thu 29-Nov-18 23:03:48

"From all I have seen and heard" ????
So you've seen and read nothing on GN that differs from your view.
Fingers in your ears and loudly la-la-la ing?
