I LOVE IT!

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Dec-18 17:37:15

ps been there, done that and I didn't have a boob job.
I did manage to provide my DC with food, clothes (home-made or second-hand at the time but serviceable, warm and decent) and a home.

That's what everyone deserves.

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Dec-18 17:34:56

maybe you and Jal could define safety net and decent standard of living
I already did that, perhaps you missed my post

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 17:10:20

Having knowledge of individuals does not entitle people to generalise to a whole group of people. The evidence collected by eg the JRF is of a totally diffferent order and can be used to inform policy in a way that individual knowledge cannot. And why do you think so many hard working people have to claim benefits?

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 17:01:36

Well of course EV all my money comes from the magic money trees in my extensive country estate. Worked hard all my life - what do you think I am - pass me another bottle of Bollie Jeeves and make it snappy.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Dec-18 16:58:50

I do not and have never read a so called “tabloid” newspaper.

I do however have knowledge of those people who are experiencing genuine hardship, and also of those who “play the system” and as we are on an open forum I choose not to disclose my sources.

Thank you

EllanVannin Sun 02-Dec-18 16:16:26

Maybe it's just those of us who've worked hard all our lives that have an axe to grind about a boob job courtesy of the benefit system.!

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 16:10:27

As for lots of 2nd and 3rd generation never having worked, I’m sure you’ve got the link for this havent you (tabloid headlines exempted). The JRF would be very interested in your source as they actually researched this area and obviously missed the ‘lots’ (they found a very small number) - still you can always rely on a tabloid journalist to turn a small number into a major problem

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:59:18

So what did you mean by this then GG?

Exactly Jalima benefits are a safety net
whilst the recipient gets back on their feet and into work.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:50:00

I know that people can and do receive working tax credits and other benefits whilst in work.

I also know that a lot of benefit recipients are 2nd and 3rd generation of being “on the dole” and proudly boast about the fact.

I am completely happy with my position thank you Maryeliza.

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:47:20

And in the meantime maybe you and Jal could define safety net and decent standard of living

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:45:04

Oh Grannygrannygranny you are now going to have to confess to not understanding that many people in receipt of benefits are actually in work?. Yes I know it’s embarrassing but don’t worry you’ll be forgiven, lots of people pontificate on the benefit system make that mistake so maybe you could tweak your position a bit?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:37:58

Exactly Jalima benefits are a safety net
whilst the recipient gets back on their feet and into work.

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:31:18

I wouldn't have thought so. There is no defence for something like that.

The benefit system should enable a decent but not extravagant standard of living to ensure that no child (or adult) should go hungry, cold or without suitable clothing.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Dec-18 15:28:41

Bridgeit- I certainly do not think so!!

Bridgeit Sun 02-Dec-18 15:26:08

Benefits are not intended to finance boob jobs are they ? Are they?

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 13:55:04

What on Earth are you talking about EV

1) FYI I’m supremely indifferent and unknowledgable about JC and DAs affection for me
2) What are ‘people like me?
3) I’ve no idea how well off they are but I’m more than happy with my financial lot
4) And for the avoidance of doubt just to save you asking, I love champagne and drink it as often as possible

EllanVannin Sun 02-Dec-18 13:43:22

Corbyn and Abbott must love people like you maryeliza smile
Are you well off like they are ??

MaizieD Sun 02-Dec-18 13:39:40

maryeliza54

grin grin flowers

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 13:31:00

well quite frankly I’d rip her implants out without an anaesthetic, evict them all from their home and put the children immediately into our under resourced child care system, give her a compulsory sterilisation and send her to scrub the pavements with a toothbrush. That’ll teach her and result in a much better society.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Dec-18 13:22:49

My point being -

1 - why should our taxes pay for someone’s cosmetic surgery in Turkey.

2 - 8 children on benefits?? We have 5 children and both worked our flipping socks off, I was often found delivering and collecting goods with a child/children in car.

3 - Benefits should be a safety net not a lifestyle choice.

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 13:18:16

And your point is GG? <sighs>

trisher Sun 02-Dec-18 13:17:22

What would you do GrannyGravy13 put down some of her kids? Let them starve? Scrooge would probably agree with you
"If they would rather die, let them do it and decrease the surplus population!"
We haven't moved far from Victorian values.
(My DGS is doing A Christmas Carol for his GCSE).

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Dec-18 13:09:16

I have just read on line that a Mum of 8 who claims £30,000 a year, has just paid for a boob job in Turkey - £2,500

Something is really wrong with our welfare system.

maryeliza54 Sun 02-Dec-18 12:21:12

Short term - emergency budget giving more money to the police. Long term a bit trickier given our current bunch of politicians and our political system

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Dec-18 12:01:52

In the meantime ….
How to stop this crime wave?
