Jalima1108 I realy don't want to know anyone's personal experiences. If they have some knowledge that will explain or help I would prefer them to do it concisely and quickly. But it's the boring responses that I really object to. You don't have to read it. You can skip things. You can stop harping on about bullying and you can stick to political posts. Such as a diary account of some posters' lives reported at length on political threads? Including personal stories of the illness of colleagues which are not really theirs to tell?

I must say I tend to agree that long, involved stories of daily life at work, visits to the pub on political threads gets a bit wearing and rather pointless.

Jalima1108 I have never said I approved of bullying, but nor do I approve of what my mother always referred to as "crocodile tears". I have and always will keep my personal life seperate from GN debates. If people want to post personal things that is entirely up to them but when they bring it on to political threads I really get fed up. FGS Grandad, this isn't some hideous kangaroo court, and while I can see that people have very definite views, it's supposed to be a thread where people can air these views in good faith, rightly or wrongly, perhaps agree to differ and leave it at that. Not turn it into a personal vendetta, or while we're on the subject use views, however pathetic you may think them, as a platform for your office jokes! If anything is disgraceful, then that certainly is!

Grandad1943 I wouldn't bother. There is on GN what I can only term as a disorganised network of supporters for Annie which is carefully (but not necessarily deliberately) cultivated. I find it best to ignore it. The truth isn't something which is actually respected on here, GNers much prefer a sob story and cries of help to any objective or rational debate.

The way ahead for the Labour Party is as you say, people who think in one way and one way only and led by a man who never followed Party lines , who in fact worked against his own party. A case of ‘ don’t do as I do, do as I say’

I've only just found the time to read the last 8 or so pages on this thread. I'm commenting not on the OP but on the comments and approach taken by some, Grandad in particular.
Firstly - Anniebach, we don't always agree on threads but I have been shocked by the sheer unpleasant tone taken by Grandad in his personal attacks on you. I hope your'e feeling ok and not too distressed by what I do see as bullying. By the time I read through this thread several of his comments had been deleted so I've not even seen the worst of it.
Grandad - I don't see it as a positive that the LP is in your view, getting its act together so far as the MP;s you describe as Blairites. lt sounds very much as though you want the LP to be full of people who think in one way and one way only. Surely that way lies dictatorship which can't be good for anyone.

Jalima, reading the list I now wonder why I stayed with the party, it has a bloody pathetic history , Clem Attlee only 1 election. Then Harold Wilson in the grip of union power, then Jim Callaghan who did 4 years and was brought down by the unions , winter of discontent!, Then the wilderness years . It changed with John Smith then Blair and Brown who reached out across the country , none of that ‘many not the few’ clap trap but all.

One good thing came from the Thatcher years, less power for the unions, which after Callaghan was no surprise. Now Corbyn will give unions all that power back.

Blair et al worked on a strategy which they felt would appeal to a majority, Anniebach. I think if they had carried down the route of moderatism and not been so keen on meddling in the Middle East, particularly Iraq, they might still be in power.
It may not appeal to everyone but it may well appeal to the majority which is something today's politicians fail to understand.

The situation before Blair became leader was 14 years in the wilderness , Blair was the only labour leader to win three consecutive elections, he got something right. Before Blair ?

POGS, back home now, so I thought I would respond to you regarding your above post,

I do not normally follow Squakbox, but I quickly choose that media article as it confirmed what our staff member acting as tutor on a Unite Union industrial safety course stated had been spoken about during some breaks on that course.

In regard to the substance of the article, the Labour movement in the country has always been in recent years politically well to the left of the parliamentary Labour party. That situation was brought about during the Blair years when Central office gained the power to select constituency candidates and "parachute them in" to any constituency without any input from the local parties whatsoever.

As I understand the situation now, the proposals being brought forward by Jenney Formby will mean that any constituency party (in consultation with other local parties in the constituency) can select or de-select their candidate for MP or sitting MP at any time right up to the calling of a general election.

The above I believe was the situation prior to the Blair changes and worked well in terms of having MPs who were much more in line with local Labour party thinking. I will "pin my colours to the mast" and state that the proposed changes being put forward by Formby are good and how it should be I feel.

Even more radical reforms are to be put forward by Jenney Formby if grassroots talk is correct. In that, Formby is canvasing local parties with a proposal that any Labour candidate for a parliamentary seat will have to had at least ten years of employment in a trade, profession, service industry or manufacturing before they can even be considered for selection. In other words, an end to career politicians.

Now POGS, should that proposal be accepted by those local parties the "fur and feathers" will most definitely be flying in the parliamentary Labour Party. However, to upset the apple cart once again, I feel that proposal should come into being.

I haven't read all these comments. just want to say that when I was a member of the Labour party in NI (before they told me they wouldn't stand candidates here because we were represented by SDLP) Alan Johnson was sent by the Labour Party to tell us we would be better to stay in the EU. I think the LP need a new leader.

I would be very interested in your views on the plans Jenney Formby is to put forward to the Labour NEC next week regarding Labour Constituency party candidate selection for MPs.
