I play Scrabble online and today it told me there is no such word as BREXIT.
We can all stop worrying now. Whew!
Somebody tell Theresa please!

Bridgeit Wed 06-Feb-19 18:41:54

No need to drawn in, we are now being drawn out ! ?

lemongrove Wed 06-Feb-19 18:21:35

Yes, commenting but refusing to be drawn in......very different things.

Bridgeit Wed 06-Feb-19 18:00:51

But you are still commenting Lemons?

lemongrove Wed 06-Feb-19 17:18:48

Brid...... am not being drawn into yet another debate/ argy bargy/ mud slinging this is all very old ground to keep going over.
There was a referendum.
The Leave vote won.
We will shortly be leaving the EU.
Everything that can be said has been said.

lemongrove Wed 06-Feb-19 17:15:07

jura lots of members do change their names, all it takes is a word with GNHQ.Failing that, cancelling your account and starting again under a new name will do it.
Some, including myself a while ago, had good reasons for changing. After a short period of time I did tell everyone, but I was under no obligation to do so.
Discouraging is not the same as forbidding.

Bridgeit Wed 06-Feb-19 17:04:41

I am interested to read of the particular ‘exciting times to come once free of the EU ‘as stated by Cherry & Lemongrove .

jura2 Wed 06-Feb-19 16:44:47

ooops, here it is

Username-changing

We discourage members from changing their usernames because we want everyone to be able to trust the relationships they build with others on Gransnet. However, you will be able to change your username once for sensitive threads.

clear as a bell- not my ruling at all.

Jabberwok Wed 06-Feb-19 16:43:19

Particularly talks of Empire which are particularly irritating! I was born towards the end of the war and in my lifetime the only reference to the Empire was the retreat from Empire not the hey day of it!! All I remember when I was a child were various countries gaining their independence, not India as I was too young. So who except the extremely elderly could possibly allude back to the Empire with nostalgia?!!
Like Lemon I'm looking forward to this country being free from the federal aspirations of the EU and being free to move forward without restrictions. There's a world out there, let's embrace it!??

jura2 Wed 06-Feb-19 16:24:45

lemongrove 'Jura as you well know it is not against the rules to change your name and not let anyone know! Posters often have very valid reasons for name changing on GN.It is their choice '

I'm afraid that you have forgotten to read GN rules and etiquette, It is clear as a bell:

Jura as you well know it is not against the rules to change your name and not let anyone know! Posters often have very valid reasons for name changing on GN.It is their choice

lemongrove Wed 06-Feb-19 15:55:15

Cherry.....me too smile in fact because I am forward looking I regard the years to come as exciting ones once free of the EU shackles.
All this talk of blue passports and Empire are complete rubbish.

lemongrove Wed 06-Feb-19 15:51:42

Jura as you well know it is not against the rules to change your name and not let anyone know! Posters often have very valid reasons for name changing on GN.It is their choice ( not yours) if they want all to know about it.
Having said that Buffybee has not changed her name, she started with the same name as far as I am aware.
High handed posts as if you are on the payroll of HQ to posters is very infra dig.

Buffybee Wed 06-Feb-19 12:11:04

I've been on Gransnet about four or five months Jura and that is why I don't consider myself new.
Perhaps I am, in relation to people who have been here for years.
I have occasionally read the political threads but don't often comment but I comment on a lot of other threads.
I would love to know who my twin is, I always considered myself a "one off". ?

Jabberwok Wed 06-Feb-19 11:47:38

I had trouble (me I guess!!) changing my email address, so I started again so to speak, and changed the whole set up which included my board name. I have made that clear though to avoid accusations of sneekyness. Perhaps if others find it necessary to change their name they also could come clean, for the sake of clarity, of course!!

jura2 Wed 06-Feb-19 11:20:19

Buffybee, no you never said you are a new member. But I took a long sabatical from mid November until recently- as I found it all a bit too much. And before now, have never come across your name- and yet you sound so familiar. Your turn of phrase, your tone and language- so it made me wonder.

However tough things get on GN, I have vowed to never change my name, as it is, as GN rules make it very clear, dishonest and a breach to trust. Not saying you did - but we know some members have changed many times. Normally it takes a little while to find out who they are, again, by opinion and how it is expressed, tone, turn of phrase, etc.

So if you have recently joined, welcome. We all have a twin or two somewhere, I suppose.

M0nica Wed 06-Feb-19 11:05:20

Hang-on Buffybee, that is what you did, when you said I was not open-minded. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

I am not aware of ever having disagreed with you on anything. You have clearly taken a dislike to me, and, all I can say is, feel free. I am sorry I know too little of you to reach any conclusion at all. I am keeping an open mind.

Buffybee Tue 05-Feb-19 22:24:51

Jura what are you talking about, I have never said that I am a new member and I have not changed name.
Have you had one too many or something?

jura2 Tue 05-Feb-19 22:03:40

Buffybee- are you really a new member? You sound so so familiar, really. Changed name again perhaps?

Buffybee Tue 05-Feb-19 21:51:13

Telling me what I mean is very presumptuous MOnica but that is just you down to a tee.

M0nica Tue 05-Feb-19 19:38:11

Buffybee You mean I do not think the same way as you, Now that view is very narrow minded.

Buffybee Tue 05-Feb-19 19:19:33

Well said Cherrytree!

Cherrytree59 Tue 05-Feb-19 19:00:12

...the days of the European union.

Cherrytree59 Tue 05-Feb-19 18:57:46

I do not consider myself as nostalgic or backward looking
I am and still will be after the 29th forward looking.

I hope that all who voted remain will join me in looking forward to a bright British future.

As it would be ironic if those who voted remain were to become backward looking and
Nostalgic for the days European Union years.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 05-Feb-19 18:31:10

A friend introduced me to,Joe Pasquale several years ago, he is extremely pleasant and great fun.

As for A A Gill, least said.

petra Tue 05-Feb-19 18:21:13

Lemon
I wonder if they've read the awful things he said about Mary Beard, or Clare Balding: "dike on a bike" his words.

jura2 Tue 05-Feb-19 18:19:11

Joe Pasquale- I do know that AAG died soon after he wrote that piece.

But last word, for a while, I will give it to the wonderful Betty B, respect:
