French riots

This was on Saturday in Paris - most of it the work of one man, an ultra-leftist.

Things have quietened down a lot in our rural part of France. There are still some Gilets Jaunes around but numbers are much diminished. Still lots of placards and banners with anti Macron slogans.

Well, to be fair, it has been going on much longer than usual, and is more generalised and more are involvled

We have been over to France 2 or 3 times since it started
The first visit, all the the key roundabouts, about three of them, around our local shopping town were taken over by the Gilets Jaune. All cars were being stopped and the drivers harangued. Perhaps a hundred demonstrators in all Second time there were about 10 on the main roundabout only. Last time about 6. We go again next week. It will be interesting to see whether there has been any change.

There was plenty about it in The Observer yesterday, including a three page analytical article.

As someone who visits France a lot, the figures you give do not sound very large or very special by French standards. I am not aware of 10,000s rioting, standing on roundabouts outside towns warming their hands over a brazier and stopping all the passing traffic is probably what most of them are doing.

We have had a holiday home in France for nearly 30 years and I would say we get one of these riot days around once every year or so. Anti-McDonalds was the first one with animal carcasses piled in the road. Since then there have been a number of fuel protests and this more generalised one now.

I know this sounds flippant, but if there were riots like these in the UK it would suggest a complete breakdown of law and order. In France this is par for the course. They have been doing this regulary since 1789.

Prats that they are don't realise that most people don't get their news from the BBC etc.
