I hate that Brexit is so divisive and one of the things that heartened me yesterday is that there were people present from all walks of life and from differing backgrounds. I am sure that would also have been the case if the Leavers had held a march.
I have friends in both the Leave and Remain camps and we can, and do, have disagreements on the subject. We are respectful toward each other and we can debate the issues without resorting to unkindness, even if we sometimes have to end a conversation prematurely to save an escalation into what could become unpleasantness. My Leaver friends absolutely understand that I am maintaining my integrity by doing all I can to stop this country from taking what I believe to be a wrong turning. They also know that, leave or remain, I will do all I can to build bridges after the event. My Leave friends believe that pulling out of the EU is the way forward and although they don't agree about how that should happen, they have a right to express their opinions and be listened to with respect. Where tensions have arisen amongst my friends is when people have changed their minds after the original vote and this has been looked upon as a 'betrayal'.
