I can only assume these people know what they are doing.

GG54 'His words were taken out of context'

what do you mean. He said it in a speech given to Leavers- and the context is that of already one murdered MP, and disgusting death and rape threats made to MPs like Anna Soubry and Yvette Cooper, and others, all over social media, FB and Twitter, and during marches and on the streets. THAT is the context sad and it is seriously dangerous. Probably illegal too as inciting violence.

maryeliza54 Tue 09-Apr-19 18:38:38

That was to petra

maryeliza54 Tue 09-Apr-19 18:38:17

And your point is? I follow him on Twitter- that’s his real platform

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 18:37:41

Something more.

^^Mr Farage said: “We can spend two years with this farce, there is a big, big world out there and I am beginning to think that perhaps Mr [Yanis] Varoufakis is right when he says about negotiating with the EU it is a technocracy that is desperately clinging onto its own exorbitant and illegitimate power.

“You may have crushed Greek democracy two years ago, you ain’t gonna do it to us.”

James O'Brien is the only commentator on FB who gets more comments than likes.

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 18:29:48

His words were taken out of context.

If someone says that their boss held a gun to their head as a way of explaining that he had given that person a deadline by which to finish some work, only a fool would imagine that the gun and threat were real.
Are you a fool?

Funny...that NF was a laughing stock when he announced that he was going on the recent 200 mile march.
No-one on here believed that he was really walking the whole 200 miles but you are very willing to believe that he meant khaki>rifle>front line when he gave that speech.

For anyone to spread those words as being a threat or say that he absolutely meant that he would physically take up arms rather than the metaphorical context in which it was cloaked, is to fall in line with the 'Emperor's New Clothes' brigade.

If you want to foment anger...carry on. I can't say that it would be on the conscience of those who choose to repeat it, as they are, imo, devoid of that aspect of morality.

maryeliza54 Tue 09-Apr-19 17:50:40

I wouldn’t describe that that was how she was chosen

jura2 Tue 09-Apr-19 16:59:23

She was chosen (TM) by a process which is an integral part of our own system of Parliamentary Democracy- the one Leavers keep saying we need to go back to - but only when it suits them.

jura2 Tue 09-Apr-19 16:57:29

So Farage is now saying he will pick up a gun- the dreaded Mark Francois says the 'Perfidious Albion' will destroy the EU if we don't get ERG's way- social media is full of death threats, rape threats and more ...

and they blame the Remainers - of course, the latest vilest comments blaming our Queen. How despicable.

And JOB, as so often, has got it spot on:

Just shows democracy isn't all its cracked up to be. Ditto Trump, Hitler, Mussolini, Berlusconi, Erdogan etc. You can argue the people don't always make the best choices. But a healthy democracy is one in which you can challenge and oppose the status quo without fear of intimidation, violence. imprisonment or worse and people can change direction if negative consequences of choices become apparent.

Kandinsky Tue 09-Apr-19 16:09:36

If TR was voted in by the British public it would be democracy in action.
Not sure how you can argue that.

jura2 Tue 09-Apr-19 16:03:09

No I wouldn't laugh- at all. And if anyone did- they would seriously be in need of their head looking at, for sure.

The hard right is posting death threats all over the place, to Anna Soubry and now Yvette Cooper, and others- of the most despicable and disgusting form, Farage is saying he would take up a gun - inciting violence- all illegal of course.

So if you find it funny - shame on you.

Kandinsky Tue 09-Apr-19 15:41:39

If brexit doesn’t happen, Tommy Robinson will probably end up being our next MEP.
You’d have to laugh wouldn’t you.

varian Tue 09-Apr-19 14:56:16

James O'Brien outlines how Brexiteers have found themselves blaming the Queen for the current state of Brexit.

www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/james-obrien/brexiteers-blame-queen-for-mess/

Some brexiters have never forgiven her for wearing that nice blue hat.

Lily65 Tue 09-Apr-19 14:48:16

I suppose a few of them might dig out coloured leg warmers and give a hearty rendition of Fame.

varian Tue 09-Apr-19 14:44:08

And let's never allow the most important decisions about our country to be made for fear of standing up to the likes of EDL, UKIP, BNP, Farage, Tommy Robinson or Vladimir Putin.

suzied Tue 09-Apr-19 14:29:40

Yes nothing like good stereotype, probably throwing their almond milk lattes at the police line, but no- they'd have to recover their reusable cups. Still they'd be laden down with all their buggies and baby slings so not much hope of a good riot. Lets leave that to the EDL and UKIP.

Lily65 Tue 09-Apr-19 14:20:24

What rioting, sandal wearers throwing Waitrose quiches?

Lyndiloo Tue 09-Apr-19 14:12:28

(To return to the thread ...) My policeman son-in-law has already had leave cancelled because of fears of public disturbance following our exit from the EU.

But why does everyone on here (or nearly all) expect that all unrest will come from Brexiteers? I would imagine it would be the opposite ...?

GabriellaG54 Tue 09-Apr-19 13:55:41

Dinahmo
I think you misunderstood my post.
I certainly do not think that all foreign manufacturing, especially clothes, takes place in sweatshop conditions.
I have been castigated by some GNers for writing that Primark and H&M are two shops in which I spend a fair amount of money.
They refer to 'cheap imported clothes' and 'sweatshop' conditions.
I countered that by telling them that many High Street brands use the same manufacturers, just as the food sector does.
Like you, I'm put off by flying nowadays. The drink culture and dreadful behaviour on many flights did it for me plus being cooped up with a few hundred people, kids kicking your seat, feet poking through between seats and drunken fights and noise...no thanks.
I'll explore more of my own country.

The queues also apply to International trains- like the Eurostar btw. We used to often come by train and we had to queue at Waterloo, then St Pancras, and of course Gare du Nord. We also had to queue with luggage and passport checks in Madrid. We drive these days because of the dog.

GG54 - not all factories in the Far East etc treat their employees badly. Many European business source goods from welfare friendly factories and it is easy enough to find out which.

GG54 - on the subject of travel - many of us travel by train. I no longer fly because of catching some bug or other when so doing.
