Higher proportion of UK voters say they would vote in EU election than turned out in the 2014 election!!!

news.sky.com/story/european-parliament-elections-a-quarter-of-public-would-boycott-poll-11685011

In 2014 very few voters were concerned about our membership of the EU. Thanks to Farage and the leave campaign liars we are now all much more aware of the issue. If leave voters want to boycott the EU elections. so be it.

Nonnie Sat 11-May-19 16:02:15

Tartlet I explained that in my post earlier today. You vote for the party and can then number which candidate you prefer, if you wish to.

Charleygirl5 Sat 11-May-19 15:43:10

Yes, only one X is required. I must do mine before I forget.

Urmstongran Sat 11-May-19 14:09:29

Me too Tartlet and my husband has just popped out to post them!

Who’d have thought we’d be even voting??

Tartlet Sat 11-May-19 13:59:29

Can I just mention that the EU election voting form only allows you to vote for one party. Although the party candidates are listed, you don't vote for any of them specifically. (I've just completed my postal ballot form).

Urmstongran Sat 11-May-19 13:55:55

Bridgeit ?

Bridgeit Sat 11-May-19 13:23:44

That’s it then Urmstongran, we are all doomed, who ever is leading us, ?lightbulb moment, Capt Mannering where are You! ?

This is an EU election, not a Westminster election and so Guy Verhofstadt, leader of Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe group in the European Parliament has every right to endorse the Liberal Democrats, a longstanding member party of his group.

It is interesting that former MEP for the South West, Julie Girling, who was thrown out of the Conservative Party for being a Remainer, has advised voters in the South West to vote LibDem. Some had expected her to support the chukkas but she has made it clear that the LibDems are the strongest Remain Party and she will be supporting them.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-May-19 12:40:44

Guy Verhofstadt is filmed saying that the EU want to eradicate populism and nationalism and that they (EU) intend to punish the U.K. so that no other Country will ever try to leave the EU again!!!! (I do not post links but it is easily found on twitter and other social media sites)

He was also out campaigning with the Liberal Democrats when they launched their MEP election campaign (front of Lib Dem leaflets "Bollox to Brexit - very grown up?).

This goes against EU rules and regs - no country/EU member/MEP shall interfere or try to influence another member states elections!

“I fear he would be sadly lacking in direction, durability, flexibility, integrity, accountability etc.”

Sounds like the bunch who are in the HoC right now Bridgeit!

Urmstongran Sat 11-May-19 12:04:21

You’re welcome Nonnie

Bridgeit Sat 11-May-19 11:56:16

I do hope so.

Nonnie Sat 11-May-19 11:48:57

Am I right in thinking that NF stood for parliament 3 times and each time was outvoted?

Bridgeit Sat 11-May-19 11:46:22

NF can certainly talk the talk, but if he had to walk the walk, I fear he would be sadly lacking in direction, durability, flexibility, integrity, accountability etc.
Perhaps he really is a sincere politician who wants to do right by the electorate, but to me he is a big ego who plays to the crowd, takes the applause but can’t, & won’t achieve any meaningful change or improvements to people’s lives.

Urmstongran Sat 11-May-19 11:37:19

‘Whoosh’ Nonnie!!

I wasn’t castigating you for not knowing something. None of us are the font of all knowledge!

No, I was merely pointing out that on these political forums those who voted Remain are often less kind to us Leavers when we show our ignorance! Which is why I said you were lucky!
?

Nonnie Sat 11-May-19 10:35:39

Varian thanks but I had already seen that and it didn't explain what to do at the actual ballot. The piece I read said that you number the candidates in order of preference but I have now found another site which tells more. I now understand that we go into the booth, choose a party and then choose our preferred order of candidates withing that party, or not.

Urmston please explain what you mean by "Lucky you nonnie for being able to show your ignorance yet not get shot down in the process! Most of us Leavers don’t get off so lightly ...." I am not at all ashamed of asking for help for something I don't understand, why would I be? We all have ignorance on some subjects and it is better to be open minded about it than pretend we understand when we don't.

Urmstongran Fri 10-May-19 20:39:27

That was witty crystaltipps it did make me laugh! Hehe!
?

crystaltipps Fri 10-May-19 20:30:55

Obviously not.

Urmstongran Fri 10-May-19 19:56:07

Funny how the referendum which Leave won and now Nigel Farage are just ‘wrong’ somehow!!

Will we ever learn?

mcem Fri 10-May-19 19:47:00

I know that many of us, however closely we are following the brexit saga, would not claim to be experts. We'd admit that there are manoeuvres and nuances we don't completely grasp.

However, when faced with blatant lies and dishonesty we all can recognise such actions.

Why then are people who are ostensibly normal law-abiding citizens unwilling to face NF's
fraudulent activities?

In a different non -political context he'd be outed as a criminal, so has brexit blinded some of us to the truth which in normal circumstances would be crystal clear?

It isn't or shouldn't be right to answer that question by simply redistributing blame and fault.

crystaltipps Fri 10-May-19 19:45:24

Stereotypes? I obviously meant those young urbane multi cultural professionals you see so many of at Nige’s rallies.

petra Fri 10-May-19 19:42:57

urmstongran
Can you imagine what a p*^s taking fest they would have had. ???

Day6 Fri 10-May-19 19:15:09

Those who are wetting themselves with excitement every time he twitches an eyebrow are of a predictable certain age/ background / location

Ooooh. You'll have to enlarge on that crystaltipps

I haven't felt the need to urinate at all on seeing the blessed Nigel. <cough> Will I need to stock up on incontinence pads do you think....?

Or don't I fall into your pre-conceived idea of age/background and location?

Loads of rellies of all ages in London and Surrey are backing Nigel. I shall tell them to beware of loss of bladder control.

I must also inform my friends in the north (the poor folk in the most deprived areas, obviously - who must be old) that they should cover their tellies when Nige is on, or the living room carpet will suffer.

More stereo types from Remainers now fearing the Brexit Party and having to create 'a type' They cannot help themselves, can they?

Their sneering speaks volumes.

Urmstongran Fri 10-May-19 18:55:15

Lucky you nonnie for being able to show your ignorance yet not get shot down in the process! Most of us Leavers don’t get off so lightly ....
?

crystaltipps Fri 10-May-19 18:55:10

For all the bluster about democracy - the Brexit party is undemocratic deliberately- UKIP was driven by factions with some horrible people gaining positions. Farage is astute enough to realise this was a stick he could be beaten with, so he’s made himself the supreme leader/ emperor of the BP with no chance of getting removed and surrounded himself with newsworthy numpties who won’t challenge his position. Those who are wetting themselves with excitement every time he twitches an eyebrow are of a predictable certain age/ background / location. He’ll get the angry mob support but it will all end in tears.

varian Fri 10-May-19 17:56:55

Here's a useful explanation Nonnie
