It is interesting to see what happened in Sunderland this weeks in the local elections.

Sunderland is an example of communities who have experienced some hard knocks from Tory economic and social policies since Thatcher. It has always been rock solid Labour voting area.
Salaries are lower than the national average, and unemployment is higher.
Communities have never emotionally recovered from the closure of the mines.
Sunderland voted to leave the EU. The communities saw a chance to stick it to the Tory government and grabbed it with both hands.

Now the interesting thing now is that Farage cannot necessarily rely on that vote holding solid.
If you look at what happened last week it is clear that whilst Labour lost a huge amount of votes, they did not all go to UKIP. The Lib-Dems and Greens picked up many of those votes and did well.

The same picture unfolded throughout the Country.

Farage will have to work hard to re-convince the voter of his nationalist message.

I'm not rubbishing your voting choices; I'm trying to find out why you have made that choice.

If NF is to make any difference at all to how Brexit is achieved he would have to be running the country. He'd have to be the leader of the party with the most MPs in Parliament. To achieve that he'd have to be elected (7 failed attempts so far) to Parliament and to have a substantial body of his party members (300+) also elected to Parliament. His chances of doing that are just about nil.

He's likely to get a few MEPs for his 'party' in the forthcoming EP elections but MEPs have no influence whatsoever over UK policy/government. All his MEPs will do is nothing, if his example is anything to go by; just draw undeserved MEP's salaries and be an irritant to the EU and an embarrassment to the UK.

It's all unbelievably futile.

I have trust that he'll do the right thing for leavers after all, the policies of the two main parties haven't got us very far...now have they?
The vast majority of comments regarding elections and the leave/ stay question make it clear that very few trust either of the two main parties. Lib Dems as far as nationals are, in this case, a faux vote.

Had I been a Labour Con or Lib Dem voter, you'd probably have had something derogatory or sneering to say about each of them, as you have on this and similar subjects in comments to other posters.
