Whatever side of the debate you’re on he is very watchable.

I wonder how they’ll do in the elections ( if we have them )

MawBroonsback Mon 06-May-19 15:29:16

Is that a name or job description, another of GG’s tradesman buddies?

MaizieD Mon 06-May-19 16:52:30

Oooh. I've been googling the wrong person. Wrist slapped...

Have I got the right one?

Actor of bit parts in TV series

He also played the masked executioner in the 1966 film A Man for All Seasons (Wikipedia)

I loved that film.

Or was it this one?

Eric Mason was a gangster in London in the 1960s and an associate of The Firm and the Kray twins. He was attacked with an axe by Frankie Fraser and left outside the Royal London Hospital, after threatening to tell the Krays that Fraser had caused the Battle at Mr Smith's.

hmm

Dinahmo Mon 06-May-19 17:08:01

MawBroonsback - I looked the name up - Dinty Moore is an American brand of tinned stews! Couldn't find another reference,

Derek Mason is an African American football coach.

Eric Mason was an actor who died in 2010. Apparently he was in Aufweidersen Pet and Hot Fuzz.

That's the trouble with the internet - once you start looking sometimes it's difficult to stop. (Especially YouTube)

MaizieD Mon 06-May-19 17:16:35

Or, an associate of the Krays, Dinahmo grin

Day6 Mon 06-May-19 17:28:30

and what I don't know I can find out
I'm content with my choices and have no need to ask you about yours or indulge in silly questions, the answers to which probably elicit more scorn veiled as serious questions

Good point. You have GG54 summed up the way most political discussions go on GN. grin

Thank goodness we do not have to justify a vote at the ballot box! grin Can you imagine it?

However, you must be aware by now GG54you cannot have a political preference on here without having to write a thesis regarding your choices for them to be valid. hmm

I cannot be the only one to have noted this tactic?

Sadly, to a man/woman it's a left wing poster's requirement. It is a ploy - they determine they can rubbish your choices without the written evidence they demand. I am quite amused by it now. You must refuse to meet their demands. They don't like it. {grin]

Day6
Goal!!! ??

Day6 Mon 06-May-19 17:44:09

If you look at what happened last week it is clear that whilst Labour lost a huge amount of votes, they did not all go to UKIP.

But why would they?

Most people know UKIP have allied, under Batten, with Tommy Robinson and extreme nationalists. UKIP is a spent force and has been for a while.

Most decent people who wanted out of the EU distance themselves from what UKIP has become.

But don't you credit the working classes of northern towns as being that sensible and knowledgeable?

hashtag elitism. Sigh.

GabriellaG54 Mon 06-May-19 18:04:07

UKIP has become a stick to beat leavers with.
As a Northern born and bred woman, I believe in myself and put my morals and politics in the same boat hoping that a fair wind brings them safely into calmer waters.

Callistemon Mon 06-May-19 19:10:30

Shall I put my boast on here?

No, it could out me grin

Callistemon Mon 06-May-19 19:14:58

Plus a bibliography of all relevant sources of information

Nigel Farage says identity of Brexit Party's £100K donor is 'irrelevant'

www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/nigel-farage-refuses-to-name-brexit-party-donor-1-6033502

Are legitimate political parties not bound to disclose the identity of anyone who donates £500 or more? What is Farage trying to hide?

Surely if he breaks the electoral law his so called "party" with supporters who give money but have no voting rights and hardly any actual members should be disqualified from standing in any election?

Lily65 Mon 06-May-19 19:56:48

Oh no, it's gone back to being serious.

*However, you must be aware by now GG54you cannot have a political preference on here without having to write a thesis regarding your choices for them to be valid. hmm

I do not need a thesis, a sentence or two commenting on what is likeable about NF will suffice please.

“Oh no, it's gone back to being serious”

I could tell.
The links are back.
?

Why not just post an opinion about what YOU have read? It would be more interesting in my opinion as we are probably all busy - Reading our own articles of choice!

Lily65 Mon 06-May-19 21:20:54

Here is my opinion. I think he is a dangerous racist.

No more links, although I do wish somebody would comment on the " breaking point " one.

Urmstongran Mon 06-May-19 21:54:39

“No more links”
I’ll hold you to that ?
A million thanks.

So, what about ‘the breaking point’? What is it about & what is your view?

You tell me yours.
And I’ll tell you mine.
Exchanging viewpoints is far more interesting!

MaizieD Mon 06-May-19 22:51:26

The 'breaking point'poster was appalling. That it was copied from a Nazi propaganda film should ring warning bells.

This, from June 2016, shows the original as well as the infamous UKIP poster.

What a gift to Farage the refugee crisis was. It happened at just the right time for him to exploit; conning voters into believing that a vote to leave the EU would mean that we need have nothing to do with welcoming refugees to the UK.

A despicable act by a despicable man.

crystaltipps Tue 07-May-19 06:01:40

Farage called his supporters “low grade people”. He lives in a £4m Chelsea pad and swans around in private jets. He is one of the elite yet his supporters love him because he talks the talk. He doesn’t walk the walk though ( literally). I guess they’ll find that out soon enough. He’s inviting “donations” to the party , but you can’t join or be a member (that would imply voting rights), there’s no manifesto, and it’s a one man dictatorship. Sounds pretty undemocratic to me.

Lily65 Tue 07-May-19 07:57:57

I am not a leftie demanding a thesis. I would like to know what people like about NF and the Brexit Party. I would also like to know what division on racial lines, in the town of Oldham has to do with leaving the EU.

My opinion is that NF is a crowd pleasing xenophobe who represents all that makes me cringe.

Urmstongran Tue 07-May-19 08:14:44

The ‘breaking point’ poster was definitely inflammatory. Produced by a design team in Edinburgh. It did stoke people’s fears about immigration.

One has to put out some context here. Syrian refugees (the poster) were crossing borders and the EU could not agree how to deal with the massive influx of people fleeing to safety. Tensions were high at the time within the EU. Angela Merkel opened her heart and German borders.

But people were scared. Not everybody was convinced our governments would make adequate provision of necessary services to accommodate these migrants.

And let us not forget, not all who were fleeing were genuine refugees! No wonder it's why in the midst of all this the Turks were paid £2 billion to set up camps to process, evaluate and fast track the genuine from the non genuine.

Nigel Farage gave a press conference at 11am this morning.

Here (reported live in The Guardian) is a short extract:

He says the party is releasing a pledge card today. It makes it clear the party wants a “clean break Brexit”.

He says over the last three years the political class has behaved “despicably”. And that is getting worse by the day, he says.

He says Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn are trying to form “a coalition against the people”.

Farage says he has concluded that winning the European elections will not be enough. This is but a first step, he says. He says the party might have to fight a second referendum, which he is confident it would win, he says. But he says the party also wants to change politics for good.

He says the Brexit party will fight the Peterborough byelection. It will put up a first-class candidate, although the candidate has not been chosen yet.

He says the party will today start recruiting candidates for the general election. It wants a new kind of candidate, people with real life experience. There is a new page on the website where people can apply, he says. He says candidates will be rigorously vetted.

He says the party now has 88,000 registered supporters. He says the party has received £2m in donations, mostly in small donations. But that could be about to change. He says some Tory donors are now considering giving money to the party.

Lily65 Tue 07-May-19 12:25:56

It's too depressing to continue really.

Urmstongran Tue 07-May-19 12:30:40
