What do we think of Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party?

Walking away will break international law.

Farage knows this. Does he care about our reputation? You have to ask yourself what are his motives. It doesn’t take much thinking to understand exactly what he wants, and it will bring no benefit to thee and me that is a given.

Maybe it’s just that he is prepared to walk away? As ‘no deal’ which is popular with many people who voted Leave, since trying to negotiate a deal hasn’t produced a darn thing in 30 months!

I agree Urmstongran that the situation in Northern Ireland is to complex for us mere mortals to "sort out."

However, surely someone who starts a party based purely on Britain leaving the European Union will have an answer to that problem. All I am asking from any one of the Nigel Farage devoted followers is what is his solution is to the Northern Ireland border issue?

Actually, since parliament decided to tie our negotiating hands by taking ‘no deal’ off the table the EU know they are in the driving seat. Perhaps if it were once again a strong ‘possibility’ then sensible heads would gather around the table. We won’t put up a border, Ireland say they won’t, the EU won’t. Business and money talk in the end.

I think the backstop has been bigged up in all this. Where there’s a will, there’s always a way!

NF isn’t the only politician who would walk away and you know it. He’s a handy hook though for some to bash against.

Can those who think that the Farage new party is the answer to all things Brexit tell the rest of us how he will solve the Northern Ireland border issue in his "just walk away approach"?

As Northern Ireland has been a major issue throughout the negotiations, could the many millions who cannot see a way through that morass without a customs union be made aware of the Farage "miracle cure" to the problem?

Farage has a simple message and has come to be seen as the Messiah by many , he is no longer blathering on about immigration or even Europe, he is attacking Westminster and the government’s ineptitude, which is a clever and powerful message and will appeal to many who won’t listen to any arguments or read anything they know they won’t agree with. Because it has become a “belief” which is always much harder to challenge than knowledge which can be ignored by true believers. He’ll shoehorn his wealthy far right elite chums in when he has got his simple message across.

Actually I truly wasn’t influenced by videos promulgated by Aaron Banks etc. I watched Channel 4 news too last night! There’s another piece on his shenanigans tonight but we are eating out this evening so I will miss it.

It amazes me that so many of you on here think Leave voters were duped by false information. You’ve all been digging around for it so long (sure enough there was a lot of it around on both sides of the argument!) that you’ve convinced yourself we just fell for it, hook line and sinker! Poor deluded misinformed Leavers. Well, you’re wrong.

Experts were/are there on both sides. And I don’t mean scaremongers. People like the ex BoE Chairman, Mervyn King, amongst others, reassuring us that Leave was not only possible but had benefits. I chose to believe different experts than Remainers.

I was especially interested in the bit about the psychological tools deliberately used by the Leave campaign.

We were used hook line and sinker. There is no doubt about it.

This idea that Farage is not one of the elite, when he hobnobs with millionaires and is discussing with Steve Bannon about forming some kind of international right wing organisation, so much much for patriotism.

a) Which laws and regulations do you think have gone against what you would want.

A question which has been asked of Leavers many times since June 2016 and to which there has rarely been an answer.

b) Were they laws and regulations the UK government didn't want?
c) In what way were they counterintuitive?
d) How were we "forced" to accept them?

Urmstongran - Let's take this a bit at a time and find out the facts. I have some more questions I'm afraid.

Your first paragraph states that ... EU membership
1) limits Britain’s international influence
2) rules out an independent seat at the World Trade Organisation (WTO)…
3) means that Britain would have more control of its laws and regulations without risk of having counterintuitive policies forcefully imposed.

1. Why would a mid level country have more international influence than the world's largest trading body? It doesn't make sense to think it would although I do understand you may believe that.

2. Within the EU it is one of the pluses that each of the countries are represented by the worlds largest trading body. That will always have more influence than any one of those countries on their own. People and countries form groups to give themselves more power. We are currently in a far stronger position than, as a third level country, we could on our own. We would have a chair at the table but we would be arguing, if we disagreed, against a group of 27 countries and others who might want to agree with them for their own reasons. We are strong in the EU as one of the three largest powers and we are stronger at the table as part of the 28.

3. I don't think this can be answered (nor can I understand your points) without some more information.

I can assure you that unless you are a ‘pensioner’ yourself (dont worry you will soon become one). Then you will realise that you have earned the right to comment. Your and your Peers experience of life, their wealth of knowledge and their evidence based understanding makes their opinions invaluable. The fact that these opinions are diverse shows their life experiences and the vast majority have the interests if those that will follow uppermost in their thoughts, even though their methodology for continuation may differ.

I was trying to point out that pro EU have their ‘elites’ too jura2 with their own (hidden) agendas! Both sides of the debate do. At least NF is determined to bat for us Leavers. No one else has his guts to do what he promises. We believe in him. Sorry if it annoys or offends Remainers.

It has started, the rise of the disillusioned. I did my postal vote today, put a cross by tory and then scribbled down the paper through lab and tory, the only 2 candidates. My friends and neighbours will be doing the same in this election and voting for the brexit party in the euro elections. Even ukip if there is no brexit person standing. I was one of the silent ones and boy am I voting with my feet as are countless others
