Mine 3 ??
Strictly after Claudia ...........
I am horrified by the new ruling that makes abortion illegal in the state of Alabama with not even exceptions for rape or incest victims .
The only exception is if the mothers life is endangered . Am I right in thinking this new law puts women back 100 years with no ability to make decisions about their own bodies ?
What are your thoughts ?
Mine 3 ??
Nana mine too
What’s disgusting is that there’s a godforsaken part of the UK where religious bigots force pain and suffering on women and girls - who would see a 12 year old child’s body torn apart in childbirth. Where you live I think anne. You should be ashamed of yourself forcing your heartless unloving views on others. Thats what I call disgusting.
This law is disgusting and hurtles them back into the dark ages!! I'm just glad that I or any of my family or friends don't live there!
I am really having problems following the reasoning of those in favour of this law. Women will have the choice not to have an abortion so why should they not have the choice to have one. The idea that the foetus is not part of the woman's body is unbelievable. If the woman died in an accident, the foetus would die too so doesn't that mean it is part of her body.
Imposing laws on women and forcing a return to backstreet abortionists is disgusting. Young girls barely out of puberty and women strapped to tables in filthy conditions, their uteruses shredded by sharp metal instruments, screaming in agony, many dying from sepsis. Yeah, that's pretty disgusting.
That last post is to Mycatisahacker re fgm etc and saying my views are disgusting.
You can't see the connection between what?
Find it disgusting it all you want. That doesn't give you the right to impose a law on that woman telling her what she can and can't do with her body. I'd find it more disgusting if she then had to seek the help of a backstreet abortionist.
I can't see the connection tbh. I could give you my views on both but its not relevant.
I know someone who had an abortion twice because she hadn't finished university. Now that's disgusting.
Oh they absolutely do have rights over their own body.
The analogies you're using re weeing etc aren't relevant - these are not issues of body autonomy. Severing a spinal cord isn't the same - the tiny number of people who request this of their Dr are mentally ill and require help.
The woman doesn't have 2 heads etc - the foetus which is solely dependent on her for its growth has these body parts in various stages of development. They are unable to function however outside of the mother's body.
It is actually OK to find abortion deeply unsettling and upsetting - whilst recognising that it happens and it will continue to happen. Enabling women and young girls to make the choice to terminate her pregnancy safely must be upheld.
I do not support FGM or circumcision.
The fact remains that people do not have an unlimited right over their own bodies.
If you go to a doctor and say, "sever my spinal cord so I can't walk anymore because I believe I'm supposed to be disabled", the doctor has the right to refuse to do that. (This is not a theoretical case. There are people who identify as transabled. It's a thing.)
You don't have the right to defecate or urinate in a public space. You don't have the right to trespass on someone else's property. You don't have the right to swing your arms around and hit someone else in the head. You don't have the right to drive - you have the privilege to drive.
All of these are reasonable limits on bodily autonomy.
Moreover, again, if a baby is part of a woman's body, that means that she has 2 brains, 2 hearts, 4 lungs, 2 digestive tracts, and 20 fingers. It also means, if the baby is a boy, that she is part male.
its not part of your body
Mmmmm ok that makes no scientific sense you do realise that I presume?
You are right in your view that anti abortionists have a right to their opinions and so don’t have abortions what they dont have a right to is to tell other women what they should do.
You are the ones shouting louder because you want to control other women’s rights and bodies. you are the shouty intolerant voices not the pro choice lobby.
As a theatre nurse I assisted in both abortions and with C sections. If the good doctor now regrets his actions tough!
It’s not for him to try and now heal his demons by demonising pregnant women.
He’s an idiot and worse. And not any doctor I would respect.
annepl and agnurse
So you don’t think a human being has an absolute right over their bodies.
I presume you then support FGM and non medical male child circumcision?
Seriously I don’t say this lightly your views disgust me.
It's an interesting dichotomy that so many anti abortionists do, don't you think?
I don't support the death penalty.
No, it's not a view anne - it's a fact. It's not a human being because it cannot sustain life outwith the mother's body. It is a part of her body, just as her kidney is.
Yes, your views are valid. You do not have the right to foist those views onto other girls and women and prevent them from accessing safe abortions.
Thats your view. My view is It's not part of your body. It's another person.. human being....baby .. No ifs or buts.
You don't have to be religious to think abortion (killing) is wrong.
Anti abortionists views are every bit as valid as pro. Shouting louder does not make someone right.
I am totally with you Mycatisahacker.........of course a baby belongs to it's mum. It cannot sustain life any other way .
It is a deep and powerful relationship. But if an abortion is wanted then it is best to have that option. Though perhaps if people in poverty were helped more maybe some women would not choose to abort.
What we Can do to help stop the erosion of women's rights is to NOT give more weight to religious rights or feelings.
Religion is a personal choice but should not be the basis of laws like abortion.
Also children should be taught same sex relationships are ok and it is terrifying me to see that mus lim parents are getting their way to have this message blocked where their children go to school.
I read that a woman tried to get an amendment through making it illegal for men to have vasectomies, it wasn't passed !!
This cloying quote from the governor of Alabama:
"Today, I signed into law the Alabama Human Life Protection Act. To the bill’s many supporters, this legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians’ deeply held belief that every life is precious & that every life is a sacred gift from God."
And here's the non-candy-coated facts:
Capital punishment is a legal penalty in the U.S. state of Alabama. Alabama has the highest per capita death penalty rate in the country. In some years, its courts impose more death sentences than Texas, a state that has a population five times as large. However, Texas has more executions per capita.
Exactly rose
Someone made a very interesting point in the media - that the anti abortionists tend to be the strongest proponents of the death penalty. Obviously life only has a value when it involves controlling women without financial means.
Anyone who thinks a specific member of this forum was given a hard time completely misses the point that the Alabama law gives all women in Alabama a hard time -- except wealthy women, who can afford to fly their bodies, and the bodies of other females they actually care for out of Alabama to seek abortions where abortions are not only legal but where doctors aren't imprisoned from 10 - 99 years for performing them-
ifs
annepl - we own our bodies. The foetus is part of our body. No its, no buts.
