Farage fails to report 5 million gift!
I am horrified by the new ruling that makes abortion illegal in the state of Alabama with not even exceptions for rape or incest victims .
The only exception is if the mothers life is endangered . Am I right in thinking this new law puts women back 100 years with no ability to make decisions about their own bodies ?
What are your thoughts ?

You are of course entitled to your opinion Maryeliza as am I. You are missing my point I think but don't want to get bogged with this side issue.
I am currently having some conversations about the abortion laws with my grandson who has recently moved to USA and lives in one of the affected States. He has found the Bible belt citizens can be quite hypocritical in their stance.
Just putting this here for your review.
While the site is pro-life the references are secular.

Maggie we do have to worry here. Look at the link between far right politics and the oppression of women’s rights throughout the world. Look at what’s happening to our politics. Be afraid, be very afraid. The price of women’s freedom is eternal vigilance?

I agree with you that we need to ensure that women don't feel the need to have an abortion.
In some parts of Asia, parents kill their baby daughters due to son preference. Since it takes time to educate parents about the value of girls, should we ensure that women are still able to kill their daughters until that is realized?
Sorry soda but I still think you are wrong to defend her, Much of what she posts are lies anyway.
I wouldn’t trust Pat Robertson further than I could throw him. He supports the overturning of Roe v Wade and is probably only saying what he did because he thinks the backlash will potentially harm his cause. He is very rich ( with some dodgy investments) very right wing very very evangelical Christian) on the back of which he has made his fortune. He is also very white and very male. He has never been pregnant. He hates women. He and his views can fottfsof.
Dillyyou're absolutely right
I fear for the women of America and I hope with the next election, all those young women (and men) who didn't see the point in voting, will see it this time and get the Democrats back in. That dangerous idiot Trump has surely had his time.
Graces we don't have to worry here! The US is a strange and in many ways backward country. There aren't many other places where capital punishment and abortion bans still exist. Handmaid's Tale here we come...
As for agnurse, she's a lone voice here. Wonder why she doesn't post somewhere else where she'd find some like-minded souls (far right, religious extremists for eg). Because she's getting a response that's why!
Maryeliza just seen your earlier comment , I am not defending the views of agnurse as I pointed out but the right of any poster to express their opinion however controversial that may be. No doubt the GN nannies will soon intervene.
I am very late to this discussion but I believe that desperate people do desperate things ( apologies if I am repeating someone) and preventing women from having legal abortions will surely lead to more illegal abortions .
As a young single mother of 18 times were very hard and I was desperately lonely and cut off . Abortion might’ve been something I would have considered if I’d even known I was pregnant . As my grandma always said “things happen for a reason that you may not always see at the time”
Well put Drum1234
Anti abortion laws should be accompanied by laws which fully support every single pregnant mother and all children. Since that would mean equality of ante and post natal services for rich and poor women, and equality of education and opportunity for rich and poor children, such laws will never be passed. So, women should be able to choose whether to continue with an unwanted pregnancy. In fact, they will continue to choose no matter what the law says, with all the dire consequences of backstreet abortions.
Women's rights are being rolled back across the world, and this is another example of this hideous turn of events.
Pat Robertson, a well known televangelist:
Alabama's "extreme" abortion law has "gone too far"
Last post was to Agnurse.
I think you have to admit it was a poor and illogical choice of argument that does raise the question of your view of the capacity of a pregnant women to make her own choice rather than have yours inflicted on her.
Your view means that some dictator comes along and insist she sustains a foetus that cannot independently sustain itself. What if it was that dictator who would die unless joined to another body which could sustain him? What if your body was the only one that could do that? Does he have the right to force you to do it? Or do we accept that you have autonomy?
"Their parents still have their parental rights. They haven't relinquished them. A child can't be placed for adoption unless the parents relinquish their rights."
So it is OK for a woman to be forced to relinquish her rights over her body but not for parents to be forced to relinquish their rights over their children when they are unable or unwilling to take care of them.
Perhaps in light of the fact that grandmothers would consider limiting the options they provide their grand daughers with the intention to deceive and coerce their grand daughters into giving birth it's time for compassionate citizens to consider additional child protective laws-
Again, you know there are pro-life atheists, correct?
I think we must challenge religious zealots who impose misogynistic and religious laws on women threatning their autonomy wherever in the world they happen to be. I think an international outcry and funding will help the women in Alabama. The religious and nationalistic far right is growing worldwide, we must join together to stomp it out.
Agnurse - your suggestion that all children be placed in institutions to prevent them from abuse is possibly the daftest thing I've seen you write. The reason residential care is the last resort, and then not in the huge institutions that existed previously, is because those places fostered abuse of the children being 'cared for'.
I never said those women lack capacity.
My point is that there are limits on bodily autonomy.
I think thought must also given to those women closer to home in NI.
Perhaps it is more possible in our remit to challenge something that is taking place in our Kingdom.?
It will almost certainly go lower Agnurse, and we will have to deal with that.
You haven't yet answered my question about whether you believe pregnant women lack capacity in the same way that someone who wants their body eaten does. It was a very strange comparison and I do think we deserve your justification on this.
What's ironic is that you claim that I support rape, when in fact Planned Parenthood has documented cases of failing to report rape and incest.
