Horrified by Alabama Abortion law

The evangelicals are religious fanatics/zealots and are trying to mix law and religion just like the taliban. As another poster said we must stay viligant and when we see even the smallest of murmur of new laws that are religiously motivated, push back.
Also I think we should all just ignore Agnurse.
Let her preach her ghastly views in her little room, in whatever ignorant part of the world she is and ignore her out of gransnet, trolls need attention. Let’s start ignoring her. She’s on nearly every thread spoiling gransnet debates and conversations.

I wasn't going to reply to you nurse, as yours is in no way a logical argument. but I will.

You call the person with such desires a "weirdo"; not a word I would use but it does seem to suggest that such people lack the mental capacity to act in their own interest and that such a test would see them receiving some sort of psychiatric care. Are you, therefore, suggesting that all women lack mental capacity in some way and that therefore the decision not to sustain a foetus that we know cannot sustain itself has to be taken away from them?

Problem here is, human rights groups campaign and campaign for the rights of a particular group, ( usually any group that doesn’t contain white heterosexual men ) then when that group demands its own rights - for example, Muslims demanding same sex relationships are not spoken about in their primary schools because it’s against their beliefs - feminists/ human rights groups don’t really know what to do.
If we’re going to be an all inclusive society, respecting religious differences, then we have to accept that many religions are anti abortion, anti gay, etc.
And Muslims, plus other parents, are getting their way with regards to same sex relationships being spoken about in schools. So right wing / religious beliefs are starting to undermine all the hard fought battles previously won in this country, let alone Alabama.
What to do?

Frighteningly I feel that the women of NA are entering a dystopian world where their rights are being taken away. I find this very disturbing.

GracesGranMk3absolutely! It's terrifying. We are going backwards on a global scale. It's perhaps more obvious and in-your-face in the States but these attitudes are creeping around the globe. We already had the shame of knowing all the countries where women are denied human rights but now we also have to acknowledge that in countries where we did have these hard won rights they are actually being removed. The rhetoric swirling around is frightening.
As you rightly point out ,this is about power. Pure and simple. Women are to be what...? Vessels? Chattels?
An 11 year old CHILD should be forced to bear a child herself after being brutalized because the fetus has more rights than she does?
Of course nobody WANTS an abortion. I'm sure the lady who can't afford a 4th child doesn't want an abortion. Or the lady with mental health issues. Or the lady whose partner dunped her and has no support. It's very sad to find yourself in a situation where you can't continue your pregnancy, I'm sure. In fact it must be awful for a lot of women.
But where are all these men who created these babies? Are they going to raise them? Are they going to take care of the mother?
No. The woman bears the responsibility. The woman's life is indelibly changed. She didn't cause that pregnancy on her own, did she? But boy, she may as well have done because she's the one who'll pay.

Actually, abortion doesn't enable rapists- Laws that protect rapist do -- as do individuals who support such laws-

The body of an unborn child is not the mother's body.

Moreover, the right to bodily autonomy is not unlimited. There are weirdos whose greatest desire is to be killed and eaten and weirdos whose greatest desire is to oblige them. (Not theoretical. Google the Armin Meiwes case.) Should we legalize consensual murder and cannibalism? Doesn't the fact that this is illegal constrain the bodily autonomy of these people?

This law has been driven through mainly by men a nd mainly by people from a so called "evangelical" background. It is not about children or women, just as rape is not about sex, it is about power and in this case (yet again) a sense of entitlement to have power over women's body just as if she were livestock. There are views embedded in American culture that I did not believe existed in European culture in the same way but it appears some of these sickening views about race, sex and inequality are raising there ugly head once again. If we do not fight for autonomy over our own bodies we will soon find that parties -including the Brexit Party - start telling us our lives should revolve round "children, kitchen and church". I am quite sure many of these "evangelicals" would already be saying "what's wrong with that".

Abortion is not going to erase the rape. It will not bring about justice. It is punishing the child for the sins of the father.

Actually, abortion is a great thing for rapists. It enables them to get rid of the evidence so that they can continue to rape.

It's deliberate, legal, infliction of not only rape but pregnancy and labor on precious, young bodies -

The rights of women are seriously under threat. Alabama won't be the only state to do this. We should all be up in arms about this. Bad enough that the women of NI have never even had the right to abortion but this is a new low where women who did have that right are now having it taken away. This is frightening. What next? Anyone who supports these right to life laws do teach about child abuse -- that it is not only acceptable, but lawful-
