I agree with Gonegirl & thought there were some lovely tributes on the 1st page, also agreed with whywhywhy & Jabberwok amongst others. I even wished T.May could have read them. But they became more & more vitriolic, even, like Peardrop50's post, quite patronising about T.M.'s intellect. From her background I'd say she did pretty well to become Home Secretary then PM, only the 2nd female to achieve that. So it isn't just the politicians & the papers who delight in kicking her when she's down. What a shame.

Under her watch West Indians were sent back to the Caribbean to die, did she cry for Grenfell victims?, the poor have got poorer, there are more food banks than ever. She cried selfish tears for herself. Do I feel sorry for her - no way!

Anniebach, the Leave campaign was predicated on overt lies. Those lies were enough to sway the relatively small difference between Leave and Remain. The campaign also benefitted from dubious financing.

Gloating over another person's humiliation is not good. However, TM is not a saint and while she may have done her best, it sure as eggs wasn't good enough. Her downfall was not brought about by her colleagues, toxic as many of them may be. Her downfall was the result of her own pig-headedness and unwillingness to listen to alternative views, other than those of her husband, and her unwillingness to compromise or consult. She chose to forget that the uk operates a parliamentary democracy, as did Cameron when he facilitated the referendum in the first place.

It was an impossible job Theresa May accepted. I do not know if anyone else in the party was better qualified. She did her best. She got no help from MP's but plenty of back stabbing. I am happy at the way she delivered her resignation speech. The end was heart felt and OK in my view. She will be 63 in October. I hope she goes on to some enjoyable job or position before she retires as she was born 1 October 1956 and has a few more years to go.

Christ, if that was her doing her best, I dread to think what her worst would have been. Good riddance, long overdue. Now I fear the takeover. What a mess.

I really think she wanted to deliver Brexit but there were too many in the house doing their own thing instead of the will of the people .. . I totally agree with Gonegirl. She was put in an impossible situation from day 1. Her fortitude is to be commended.

Calling for a general election is pointless if (as most GNers have said) no major party has anyone worthy of being PM, indeed, most of you have castigated MPs from right across the board.
